The Salt Creek Retreat is a 2006 built 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home on .62 acres with 231 feet of creek front on a pie shaped lot. The home is modern with up to date furnishings and comfy beds. It's the last creek side home on dead end street so it feels like the country even though its only 3 blocks to downtown Amity with a wonderful city park, wineries, bank, restaurants, shops, gas station and market.

This modern home is furnished with comfort and convenience in mind with comfy beds and cozy living area. It's great for relaxing and enjoying the countryside and creek views from 2 upstairs bedrooms, back deck or living room and kitchen windows. It's also set up for those on business trips with desk (in china cabinet) in living room and master bedroom and Wi-Fi.

Downstairs has living room and kitchen with high tongue and groove pine ceiling and creek side windows and door to wrap around deck looking at Salt Creek below. Deck overlooks Salt Creek to the West and Amity Hills and Oak Forest to the North and East. There’s a 1/2 bath and 4th bedroom (as of Halloween 2016) created by remodeling 2/3rd of garage with tongue and groove pine ceiling/wall and art. Living area has comfy microfiber couch, couple chairs, smart tv with netflix and stereo. China hutch has desk that opens up and office chair.

Upstairs the home has 3 bedrooms upstairs with walk in closets. The 2 smaller bedrooms have West facing windows with great views of Salt Creek and share a large bathroom with a tub. One of the creek view bedrooms has a pine dresser and queen log bed with comfy bed right next to the window. The 2nd creek view bedroom has a pine dresser and bunkbed with full on bottom and twin on top. The master bedroom faces East with Amity Hills views and has a pine queen log bed and dresser in large closet, desk and private bathroom with tub.

About Erich Degner

I run a mail order business in Sherwood and Amity is a quick 35 minute escape to the countryside and nature. I wanted to start a vacation rental business where travelers can stay and relax in a spectacular natural setting within walking distance of a downtown and wineries. I found this perfect home on Salt Creek in Amity to start my endeavor. We clean the home with non-toxic cleaners and stock it with recycled paper products. I live 1/2 hour away so email, calling or texting is preferred if you have questions or issues.

Why Erich Degner chose Oregon

The home has a million dollar view of Salt Creek and countryside. The home is downtown Amity, incorporated in 1880 and still an unspoiled Yamhill County farm town with population of only 1700. There is a mix of old homes, new homes and some manufactured homes in the safe neighborhood with lots of kids. It's 2 blocks to wonderful Amity City Park and 3 blocks to downtown Amity, elevation 162' in the heart of the Yamhill Valley. Downtown Amity has an Espresso drive through, restaurants, antiques, small market, a couple tasting rooms and Chevron.

The location is bullseye in the middle of Oregon Wine Country with wineries North, South, East and West. McMinnville (Mac) is 5 minutes North to shopping and only 10 minutes to historic downtown. Salem is 17 miles and you can drive in an hour to Portland, Cascade Mountains or the Coast. The home is in town so very walkable but also private since it is last creek side home on a dead end street, adjacent to Oak Forest.

What makes this house unique

The Salt Creek Retreat home is the perfect centrally located home for relaxing in wine country or exploring the Willamette Valley, Oregon Coast, Portland or Cascade Mountains. There are a couple nice country walks from the home. Shortest one is to walk through the City Park and head West on Bellevue Hopewell Hwy, cross the Salt Creek bridge and then take right on SW Lancefield road for a great view of the home from the farm and take as long a walk as you want in the country. The second is cross Hwy 99W, head East on Rice Lane past elementary school then take a left up SW Amity Vineyards Rd or continue straight on Rice Lane as both road eventually dead end up on the Amity Hills.

The home has great West facing views of Salt Creek and there are farms, countryside and the Coast Range off in the distance on the other side of the creek. Western Sunsets are spectacular when weather cooperates. There is great wildlife viewing with many song birds, hawks and Blue Herons that live on the creek. There's also fish, ducks and beavers that live in the Salt Creek riparian area and all you can eat blackberries from August to September. There’s a side yard on North Side of the home that stays nice and cool and shaded and from side yard there is a trail down to the part of the property that contains 231 feet of creek front and hidden canoe.

Enjoyed staying here for the eclipse. The park down the road was a great place to see it. We also went to Salem for the river walk and Lincoln City for the coastline. Blackberry season was a great addition to the visit, thank you!

Expensive, but the house is not great, downstairs bedroom unuseable due to gasoline fumes.

Unfortunately, this house was not up to the standard we have experienced many times with HomeAway. Our family made it work, but we booked it thinking there would be a downstairs bedroom for my elderly Mom. The converted garage "bedroom" smelled so strongly of gasoline that we had to keep the door closed and stay out. Mom ended up on the couch and I slept on the floor by her. The stairs are very steep, but the upstairs bedrooms are much nicer. The deck is a little wobbly, but the view of the river and trees is lovely. The kitchen was adequate for making family meals. The price was considerably more than I have paid for much nicer places. I could not reach the host at any time after booking. I am sorry to say, as a loyal HomeAway client, that this house was disappointing.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately customer said she couldn’t reach me after booking but she called while I was at my son’s Junior High Graduation. I called right after it was done, talked to her. The home has no gas, it’s all electric. Its possible lawnmower in 1/3 of garage that is still garage was venting fumes so I told customer to put outside and leave garage door open a few hours to vent and lawnmower was outside after customers checked out and is stored outside now. My son and I have slept in downstairs bedroom which is newly remodeled Halloween 2016 with no fumes issues and I had a dozen customers before this one that stayed in 2017 with no complaints about fumes. The stairs to upstairs are normal grade as the 2006 home is up to modern building codes. Deck gets stained and jacked up every fall since it settles and boards warp during raining season and will be fixed again this fall but is safe now. There are no comparable creek front homes with nice view that sleeps 12 people for this price in the area. I keep the newer home clean, constantly update the inside. Since my son and I were going to Costa Rica for his graduation present the day after customers check in, I pulled an all nighter and worked on the home for 48 hours before their arrival and the home had never been nicer with new rugs, comforters, pictures and thermal curtains in all rooms.

We had an amazing time in this out of the way, very quiet, peaceful property. The owner left notes every where which we found funny and quite helpful. Tons of black berries. Would stay again.

Nice central location to coast, vineyards and mountains. Quiet neighborhood.

While the property was centrally located for our needs we were a bit disappointed in the quality of the property. The neighborhood is a little "sketchy" but that said, we had no issues. The access to the creek is really nonexistent as the blackberries (very tasty by the way) and high grass really prevent stream access. We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the property on arrival. The bathrooms were cleaned well but much of the living area didn't appear to have been swept. We did have ants but we were able to deal with them with some spray. The kitchen faucet wasn't functioning properly which wasn't the end of the world, but it was inconvenient. It was particularly hot during our stay and the window air conditioning units simply couldn't keep up, particularly upstairs. Having the multiple bedrooms was really nice and the mattress quality was quite good. We never did find the canoe but it didn't really matter since we couldn't figure out where we would have launched it. Make sure to contact owners in advance to have the information on the key lockbox location, they have it well placed for security (think treasure hunt). If you are there the last weekend of July, make sure to attend the local fire department's pancake breakfast. Huge crowd and fabulous pancakes - get the blueberry pancakes! The property was satisfactory for our trip with a couple of grandkids but we were a bit disappointed in the quality of the maintenance. Blessings

quiet & comfortable

We enjoyed the private location of this home, with scenic views out the windows. Being from a remote area, we appreciated the rural setting this home offered. I also liked that we could easily walk to the local park, market, coffee shop, antique store ... Amity is a nice town to wander about. Our kids enjoyed playing in the creek, but insect repellant was very much required!

The indoors are comfortable and kid-friendly. The only issue we experienced was a strange odor in the downstairs bedroom/washroom, so we stuck with the upstairs bedrooms, which were airy, bright, and nicely decorated. Next trip to the Willamette Valley, we're renting this home again!

Great location, beautiful view, sleeping arrangements worked well for our group

We stayed Memorial Weekend at this house. Two families of 4, with 4 kids ages 6 and 9. The location and sleeping arrangements worked out well.

A few thoughts if you are considering this location. With the .62 acres as part of the title of the property, I was expecting lots of space for the kids to roam. However, the lot is overgrown with blackberry bushes and the grass is not maintained. It wasn't realistic for the kids to go play beyond the house. Thankfully, Amity has a very nice park within walking distance. And, although we didn't bring bikes, I would have felt comfortable with the kids riding on the street.

One amenity listed for the house is air conditioning. The house has one window unit in the kitchen. We were able to use it for a time, but an electrical issue kept us from using it throughout our visit. By opening the windows, we were able to cool off the upstairs once the sun went down. The windows do not have screens. I felt comfortable that our kids were old enough not to hang out the window, but I would have been nervous with small children.

We ended up sharing the house with what seemed like a very large army of small ants. We thought we were able to reduce their numbers to a manageable level by baiting them the first day. Unfortunately, when we opened our luggage, we realized we had 100+ stowaways.
