NEWS FLASH!: As of November the final stretch of road to 'The Brown Bear Lodge' has been paved. You can now
enjoy our remote location with the comfort of paved roads throughout your entire journey. To our past guests,
we invite you to come back and see the major improvement!
We won't have many more opportunities to get away with just
the four of us as Anna is in College and Jane is a freshman in
High School. We had a wonderful time watching the girls discover
all the differences between the Smokey's and lower Michigan.
The cabin is breath-taking, along with the view! To wake up with
a view like this.....Priceless!
First off the directions to this remote location were spot on, thank you for the details instructions to get to the cabin. FYI, the first time driving up to the cabin, try and get there before the dusk. It gets really dark fast, but after a couple drives up then its no problem. The layout for this cabin is perfect for a large family, the dining room table was awesome!! It is an ideal set up all around. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils & cookware. After dinner we could play cards at one end and do a puzzle at the other end. The game room is a great area for the older teenagers to go chill, nice separate area away from the adults. The property was totally up to my cleaning standards. The place was spotless!! The property management team were super friendly, before check-in & when I went to pickup the wi-fi. I had no problems with the cabin so therefore I never had to call the after hours number. I would & already have recommended this property to friends & relatives. We rode the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad, went zip lining at the Natahala Outdoor Center, shopping in downtown Bryson City. And of course went to the Smokey Mountain National Park, hiked to the top of Clingman's dome, drove thru Cades Cove, drove the Dragon's tail, went disc golfing at Fontana Village, & saw the Fontana Dam. Wished we could have stayed there longer, planning a trip to come back for next year to see everything we ran out of time & didn't get to see. This is by far the best property I have stayed at from VRBO. Thank you for being such a gracious host~
We had our wedding planned for the fall in the mountains and wanted a romantic cabin for our honeymoon. We found that at Brown Bear Lodge and more. It was amazing! The cabin was spectacular! Very clean and very nice amenities and appliances. Everything you needed in the kitchen, laundry, bath, bedding, etc. Very comfortable, romantic and cozy! The view each day/evening that we were there was breathtaking. Enjoyed coffee on the porch while also enjoying the beautiful view. Very quiet, peaceful and tranquil. Just the way we wanted! The owner was very communicative and informative about the cabin and surrounding area. It was close to Bryson City, Sylva, Highlands, Cashiers...all lovely places to see! We are looking forward to staying there again one day! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful place with us for our honeymoon. It was unforgettable and a wonderful memory for us!
We spent a week at the lodge celebrating mom's 80th birthday and did not want to leave! It was the best trip in every way! The cabin has everything you need...very comfortable and cozy, yet spacious...inside and out. We ate breakfast and dinner on the porch everyday looking at the amazing view....the sunsets were truly spectacular! There is so much to do and see in the area, but the best part was just relaxing at Brown Bear Lodge!
Let me start by saying I have rented thru VRBO quite a few times and this is the first review I've done...this house is that awesome! Views are gorgeous. Layout was perfect for my family...grandparents, three year old son, and my husband and I. We each had our own space plus some. Kitchen is extremely well equipped. Fire pit was perfect for a cold night and hot tub was too. Close to Bryson City, which is an awesome town. Owner was extremely prompt to return my call about rental . The whole experience was top notch. Already planning a trip back.
Being an eternal skeptic and still easier to please than my wife or mother - we were very worried about what we would actually find upon arriving. This cabin is exactly as described in the ad - both visually and in the write up. The picture in the ad is exactly what you see - 3,000 feet up in the Smoky's with incredible views and hot tub was very well maintained. For that matter, the entire property was very well maintained. And still within 15 minutes of downtown Bryson city where you can go for necessities or a mcd's. We were also concerned about our 16 months old toddler, but the place was very toddler friendly. Not that the "little guy" cared, but he could run on the balconies/loft area as the rails are built to kid standards. Just an FYI - if you have your own wifi hotspot with ATT, it does work at this home.
Our family loved this house. It had great energy. My husband and I never left the house. I could live here forever. The view was amazing during the day and the hot tub perfect at night. We loved the stocked kitchen and the TV area's. My family is begging to go again next year.
The 'Brown Bear Lodge' is also conveniently located to unlimited outdoor activities. A short 15-20 minute drive will take you to Fontana Lake, which boasts the highest dam east of the Rockies, as well as offering boat rentals and great fishing; or Nantahala Outdoor Center with whitewater rafting, horseback riding, biking and hiking trails, tubing, kayak and canoe rentals. A new zip line which goes through the Nantahala Forest is only about 15 minutes away. We have excellent restaurants nearby and downtown Bryson City, only 10 minutes away, has a number of shops and eateries, not to mention the Great Smoky Mountain Railway with daily excursions through the mountains.
Other Activities: Boating, kayaking, zip lining, horseback riding, mountain biking
