Beautiful Cedar House, Perfect Location, Large Yard, Private,

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 - 30 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This gorgeous, cedar-sided, 3/4-bedroom home was built in 2000 and has all the charm and character of a classic Maine island home. Located on the Island, Long Island, Casto Bay. a low-key fishing and lobstering community in Casco Bay, this family-friendly home is situated on one-and-a-half fenced-in private acres.

The home includes a well-stocked kitchen, combination dining and living room, and a separate TV room with a flat-screened TV. The living room has a fireplace and bookshelves filled with books and the TV room is stocked with plenty of DVDs and VHSs for the whole family. On the first floor there is a bedroom with a Queen size bed and a full-bath. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a full-bath. The children’s room has two twin beds and an attached playroom with a full-size futon and plenty of games. This room can also be a fourth bedroom if needed.

One of our best features is our location! We are a five-minute walk from the ferry landing,. We are also a three to four minute walk to both general stores, and a ten-minute walk to the best beach in Casco Bay! Down the street is our post office. Around the corner is a Bed and Breakfast/Restaurant, a library and school yard with playground, and basketball and tennis courts.

Long Island has beautiful conservation trails, perfect for biking or long walks, fishing, a lobster pound, and on a clear evening, sunsets over Mount Washington. Frequent ferry service to Portland gives you access to superb restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, Freeport and L.L.Bean, an art museum, children’s museum and much more.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE, we DO NOT rent partial weeks during our summer peek weeks. Thank you for understanding.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect house and the perfect location for us! My husband and I traveled with our 4 boys aged 18-24yrs ( And our dog!) and no one was disappointed!! The yard was oversized, fenced and treed for lawn games, shade and privacy and included a fire pit, barbecue grill and relaxing hammock. There were tennis and basketball courts within a 5 min walk and even a volleyball court on a nearby beach. The owners were very accommodating , warm and friendly and went out of their way to inform us about the island and places to be sure to see. There were 4 bicycles available for our use and boy did they get used!! There was so many beautiful places to explore! The inside of the house was so cozy and filled with everything we could need. Cooking utensils, lobster pot and dishes, games, books, comfortable beds even a washer and dryer. I was initially apprehensive about the ferry and bringing over all of our groceries and suitcases but it was so easy and convenient. We highly recommend this home for a family looking to balance activity with relaxation!

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

A great home and excellent communication with the owners. This house worked out perfectly for our family. It is very comfortable and cozy. Perfect location for our kids who love to go to the pier to fish. We enjoyed using the lobster pot a few times during the week getting our lobsters locally on the Island. We used the fire pit for smores each night. My son used one of the great bikes that were available. It was very nice to just have to bring our clothing, personal items, and food for the week. Once again you are dealing with lovely, down to earth owners of this property. Thank you Christine for allowing us to use your home!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for leaving the house just as we left it. It is such a pleasure for us not to have to rush and clean during our short turn around time. We are very happy you had a great vacation. The weather held out nicely for you. We are pleased that you enjoyed lobsters, the fire pit and the bikes. We are especially pleased you love our island! Long Island has a great community of people. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Christine and Mike

Perfect Vacation House

  • 5 of 5

We always have a great time on Long Island, and this house really worked out for us well traveling with 2 adults and 2 children. The location was easy to walk to from the ferry, even with our bags! The house was well stocked and we couldn't think of anything else we would have needed for a very comfortable stay. We enjoyed both having access to a grill to cook out and to a fire pit for the evenings. We used it almost every night and the kids loved being able to have smores. We would definitely consider staying here again! Thank you to Christine!

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you had a fun trip. We try to make the house as comfortable as possible and we're happy you found it that way. I know the weather wasn't sunny everyday, but sounds like you found all the intesting places to discover on the island. Thanks so much for being wonderful renters.

Week away... Long Island Maine

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time on Long Island in this home! The house is very nice, in a shady area, close to everything. The ice cream/sandwich shop, the dock/ferry landing, the community center, Fowler's Beach, South Beach, herb/veggie farm stand, gift shop, yoga studio, the general store, etc. We hitched a ride up with hill with Chub's Blue Bus, and rented a golf cart later in the week. VERY FUN! The house slept us comfortably, we cooked out each night, made s'mores in the fire pit, biked all around, etc. Next time we hope for two weeks on Long Island.

Wonderful stay at a wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 very happy and relaxing weeks at this charming house on Long Island and as my son says, it was awesome! The property is just as described and the huge yard is perfect for kid adventures. (Like most of the wooded parts of the island, the yard does have mosquitos so be vigilant.) The house itself is well equipped, with bikes, a beach umbrella and a cart for picking up groceries at the wharf. Christine, the owner, couldn't be nicer: helpful, thoughtful and responsive.

The location is perfect for exploring beautiful Long Island and is a short walk to the wharf and Front Beach. Don't miss South Beach and Shark Cove; Wreck Cove has fabulous tide pools, too. Email Whole Foods in Portland to get groceries delivered via Casco Bay Lines. If you want a golf cart, reserve in advance to make sure you get one. Don't miss the Ivy Hall gift shop, run by friendly and pleasant island residents.

Explore the tide pools, walk the shoreline, romp with your dog, build fairy houses and sand encampments, gather shells and sea glass. And if it's raining, curl up with a cup of tea and a good book and relax on the screened porch. You'll feel the cool green beauty of this island soaking into you and you won't want to leave. Highly recommended.
