Dominican Republic Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Gorgeous, new (2010) and off-grid, masterfully crafted thatched roof compound on the Dominican Republic's verdant North Coast! Just on the other side of Cabo Frances Viejo from World Famous Playa Grande Beach!! (An easy 5 minute drive).

Fully staffed villa, with concierge/manager, chef, daily housekeeping, and 24/7 security. Car and driver available, too, for an added fee.

2 1/3 lush, rolling tropical acres on a 50' cliff overlooking the mighty Atlantic surf! Panoramic views! Balinese inspired layout with separate pavilions to live and sleep, each open to the ocean with dramatic views. Very private grounds with dozens of mature royal palms, coconut palms, avocado trees, mango trees, almond trees, and acres of rolling green grass dotted with bougainvillea and the like. A jungle paradise!

One enters the central pavilion through a centuries old antique Indian carved door, dramatically introducing the view of the infinity edged pool and a full panorama of the Atlantic beyond. The 'great room' has a well equipped kitchen, a hand carved oak dining table seating 16, and an incredibly comfortable lounge area with room enough for everyone! The entire wall of doors, 9 feet tall and custom made by master craftsmen from Santo Domingo, opens completely up to the yard, pool and ocean. Laze about on the terrace, pick a hammock, or sun yourself bronze...this house is heaven for relaxation!

A master suite to die for. Perched high among the palms, this double pavilion suite is exotic, wonderful, and completely open to the ocean! Even the bath! With breathtaking ocean views, shower al fresco in the morning, with nothing but you, the colorful fauna and the big blue sea! Be lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the surf and the cool, constant breeze.

The guest pavilion is comprised of two generous bedrooms, one a king and the other having two full (double) beds. Each has their own terrace and bath, and both have stunning views of the ocean and Cabo Frances beyond! Total privacy between all three pavilions make this an ideal set up for 2 families with kids, 3 couples, or just one large, extended family.

New stairs (125!) down to private beach below. Often too rough to swim, but beautiful, private, and great for shell seekers! On the rare calm day, swim or snorkel out. We have even spear fished for lobster, and swum with a friendly pod of dolphin!

Dec thru March is PERFECT whale watching season....right from the terrace!!

Minutes away from famous Playa Grande beach, a 3 mile stretch of sand, surf and seafood (caught hourly, grilled fresh, and brought to your beachside table...all for a few bucks)!

Also, a minute further down the road, is the world's best kept golf secret. Playa Grande Golf is the 'Pebble Beach' of the Caribbean. With 12 of 18 holes set upon dramatic 80' cliffs right on the ocean and surrounded by the lush green mountainside, it is a setting to behold and a challenge you won't soon forget. (Now owned by Aman Resorts, be sure to inquire as to play-ability).

This is a home designed for ease and comfort, with the amenities, but without the pretense. Its décor is simple, yet crisp, clean and organic. Help yourselves to the vegetable garden, read a book or two, and relax! Buy your fresh eggs everyday from Jonny’s chickens up the road. If the warmth and beauty of the Caribbean and its people are for you, but the pretense and expense are not....come to Cabrera!

What makes this villa unique

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jenn n' Skip,

There is only one word that can adequately describe my stay at the Cabrera Tiki -- sublime! Something as simple as entering the front door is nothing less than a change of universe. It's not just the etherial dramatic, drop-dead clifftop oceanfront vistas, nor the endless 24/7 wave concert that overpowered me, but the way this home annuls the line between indoors and outdoors, and the implausible combination of tropical rusticity with innovative architectural elegance; and all fused together with the most unique and eclectic collection of artworks and artisanal objects and inventions imaginable. The master suite is so romantic, even if you're alone, you'll probably fall in love with yourself again -:).

On the practical level, the staff of five was not only extremely helpful and accommodating, but also with such a light footprint that they were invisible except when we needed them. It was as though their pride came from pleasing us -- and what more could we ask, aside from half an hour of powerful sun with gentle rain at the same time by day, and calm breezy evenings identifying constellations with an nonstop lightning show on the ocean horizon.

There were plenty of special activities in the neighborhood.... many magical places to swim, the Caribbean's most amazing golf course, walks to and through rural mountain villages with everyone smiling and waving as you walk by .... but really, after a few days of enjoying the surroundings, we didn't even want to leave "home".

If you want a normal vacation house, this is probably not your spot. But if you prefer the experience of a place that meshes the ephemeral with the eternal, well, we've never been anywhere as magical as the Cabrera Tiki.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We heard of this house when we were at La Catalina last year, but had not seen it in person until we arrived at the gate last month. The pictures are great but they don't really don't do it justice. It's exceptional. We were only two people, but the house could easily accommodate six or even eight . I could go on for pages about the views, the design, the open living spaces and the palpable feng shui throughout, but it's the service of the staff that sets Cabot Tiki apart. They've thought of everything from airport pickup to the fisherman's daily catch served with a smile from the chef. The neighborhood is tranquil enough, but the 24 hour security allowed us to rest at ease day or night. We hardly left the property more than a few times the entire week.

Whether you need a break from work, are having a retreat, celebrating a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or are just ready to get away from it all for a while, you won't find a more special place than Cabot Tiki.

our exceptional week

  • 5 of 5

The week I spent at this vacation home in Cabrera with family exceeded my expectations on every front. I use the words 'vacation' and 'home' advisedly, because this location excels at fulfilling hopes in both areas. From the moment of arrival what is apparent is that this is an exceptional spot. The view of the surrounding bay is as beautiful a vista as I've ever encountered. The architecture, which appears to be Bali-inspired is, expansive, welcoming, and tasteful. Due to the layout of both the gently grand main house and each of the three guest suites (each with balcony, full bath, large closets, and comfortable beds), it is an experience of both living 'inside' splendid design and 'outside\ stunning landscape and topography. The grand, tall folding doors off the main area give way, almost invisibly, to a large patio sitting area, with a magnificent view and access to an extremely pleasing 'infinity' swimming pool, and a view of the sky and ocean that leaves you almost breathless. (When we were there, humpback whales could often be seen spouting and diving close by!). The staff, including marvelous cook Dominga, are all excellent at their jobs: polite, friendly, efficient, relaxed. The meals were absolutely 'top notch', and almost entirely prepared with fresh local ingredients. (For seafood lovers it's paradise -- we had fish tacos, ceviche, and grilled lobster that were magnificent.) Yet make no mistake: this spot feels very much a 'home', and not anything like a 'resort'. Personal touches, and the warmth of the owners, are everywhere felt. This adds such a difference to the relaxation that comes from such a holiday. As well, the magnificent nearby beach Playa Grande offers unparalleled access to an oasis that boasts golden sand, crashing waves, and is remarkably underpopulated by Caribbean standards. The local merchants are polite, friendly, and unobtrusive -- and the two lunches of fresh fish and cerveza that we had prepared for us on the beach were terrific. I'd watch the tides a bit here, though, with kids or seniors. Great body surfing though! One of the best week-long vacations I've ever had --my family and I would go back in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

It means the world to us when other families are able to come and experience our beloved 'Tiki' and find they love it, our warm staff, and the surrounding environs equally as well as we do. It was a real pleasure to host your family....we look forward to your return! Thanks again. Kindly, JC

Robinson Crusoe Hide Away

  • 5 of 5

I flew to the Dominican Republic out of Boston, best part is that it's non-stop. I was all worried about going through foreign customs but it was a breeze, a lot easier than flying into Mexico. Driving to my away home was simple, one road, just stay on it and go straight. Once I arrived, I knew I had made the right choice in choosing this vacation home. I was traving with a friend and his wife, they took the master bedroom which was beautiful. I took one of the guest rooms on the otherside of the property.

The home is everything and more from the pictures that are here. But it is the views that make you want to never leave. Which is mostly what we did, it is so comfortable at this home, you just want to spend your time right there. We did visit the beach, Playa Grande, which is beautiful. The ocean was so refreshing, and the waves were great for body surfing. If you know how to surf, they rent surf boards on the beach. I watched a young couple surf for hours. There are lounge chairs, beer and food available at the beach. You don't have to do a thing, they will wait on you.

Most of the time we stayed at the home, why leave when we had everything there. In the morning Dominga makes you breakfast, she is a fabulous cook. She also prepared lunch and cooked up some great dinners. Dinner would be fresh fish that had been caught that day, to lobster and pasta, the lobster bought from the local boys who had dived for them in front of our home. The house keeper Mildred kept the place spotless. She cleaned my room and bathroom everyday, plus she did my laundry. As for security, Rafael and Manuel make you feel very safe.

The town of Cabrera is very nice, one night we decided to give Dominga the night off and we went to town for dinner. We ate at Entre Amigos, what a wonderful find. The food is very good, if you go out please visit this place you will not be disappointed. But everything comes back to this home. It is so beautiful and relaxing why leave. The views are to die for. The waves pounding the rocks below and the cool ocean breeze blowing in, I never wanted to leave. This was really a vacation for me, I came home well rested and ready to go back to work. I can't wait to get back down there, some people might call it Paradise.

Owner's Response: Wow, J. What can we say? You have discovered every charm and earthly vibe that we, too, find make our 'Tiki' so special. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay so well. We do sincerely hope you come back again. Dominga especially enjoyed cooking for you, and was overjoyed by your generosity. The entire crew will look forward to your next visit.

A great find!

  • 5 of 5

The setting, architecture, and decor of this property are a wonderful combination of relaxing, elegant, and user-friendly. Having traveled in Indonesia I can say the Bali inspiration works perfectly here - loovered windows and doors open up and you can feel the breezes, hear the crashing waves, and enjoy the views from inside any of the bedroom spaces and open-concept main home. It is so peaceful, we can't believe we're back home and freezing in Canada. Highlights are the staff; they are friendly and unobtrusive and take care of absolutely everything. Dominga the cook is outstanding – her English isn't great, so you might want to come with some recipes printed out in Spanish. She seems to be able to cook anything. She made us crazy good ceviche. You need to provide the food, but it's fun to take her to town and accompany her on her shopping adventures. Another highlight is the nearby Playa Grande. I wish I could post photos… It's fabulous, and empty! Not that you want to missed many meals at home with Dominga, but we would recommend lunching on the beach – there are many little vendors that will serve you beautiful fresh food right on the sand. We connected with a terrific guy named Sandro. You can rent gear, kayaks, and take surfing lessons there too. Oh, and we saw whales on several occasions out in front of the house, while enjoying gin and tonic's! We loved this place, and will certainly come back.

Owner's Response: Dear H.N. Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed the great cooking. (Dominga is starting English lessons, by the way)! The whale watching has indeed been great this needn't even leave your rocking chair! Please do come back were a pleasure to host! (Note: It is possible to arrange for our concierge to do all of the food shopping for you, if you so desire).

Paradise Found!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were invited to a family wedding wedding on Orchid Bay Beach near Cabrera and I was delighted to find Cabot Tiki. Our original intention was to stay for one week but were so taken with the website description that we decided to stay for two weeks. It is so much more than we expected and the peace and tranquility made it a haven for us to get back to after all the wedding festivities. The staff is wonderful and Dominga is a great cook and lots of fun to be with. I especially enjoyed going shopping with her as she knows where to get the best and freshest food. The Pollo Central for chicken was a first for me with the live poultry running around. We were eight people for lunch one day and she made a great spread. After many of the forty five wedding guests had returned to Cacada, she prepared a wonderful dinner for seven of us and she was especially good with three babies under 20 months. She made flan ( alias creme caramel) for us twice and it was yummy. I have never had a holiday where I felt so well taken care of. Going to sleep in the comfortable bed with the ocean waves breaking on the rocks below is something I will never forget.

Dealing with the owner was so easy and we were well prepared with all the information we needed to drive from Puerto Plata and information on local places to visit. Many thanks to Dominga, Mildred, Gabriel,Raphael and Manuel for the good care they gave us. I always felt safe on this beautiful property and recommend it highly as an ideal place to get away from it all.

Operation Un plug and Enjoy

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Cabot Tiki last July! It was just what we need to unwind and unplug (although the house is fully wifi operational). I visited with my husband, our two boys and a great friend. The house is beautiful! The design is understated yet everything is first class. There is someone at the house night and day so you always feel really safe. Dominga, the chef, served up the most delicious meals using local ingredients. We enjoyed typical Dominican meals including fish, plantains, rice and beans as well as favorites of the kids - tacos and guacamole. Mildred, the house keeper, provided lots of laundry and cleaning back up for my boys who played baseball with a local team every day. With all the day to day covered my husband and I could really relax.

We absolutely loved our vacation. We look forward to coming back to Cabrera and Cabot Tiki soon! Thank you for taking such great care of us!

where we are in cabrera is really quite removed from a busy tourist scene. it is a sleepy town (just a minute down the road) with a few local restaurants, some pretty good, and one quite good at the hotel 'la catalina'.

for activity, playa grande golf has recently been bought by aman resorts, with plans just completed of a course a facelift and a high-end resort called Amanera. please inquire as to playability.

other than golf, the main beach, also called playa grande, is just a few minutes down the road. it is gorgeous (as agrees national geographic) with great surf and wonderful food, prepared causally in beach shacks and brought to wherever you happen to sit yourselves in the sand. you may also rent surf boards, boogie boards, chaise lounges, etc. at the beach. the surf can be quite good!

there are also some good hikes, waterfalls, and horseback riding. but other than that, it is pretty well off the beaten path. it requires a heart for exploration and discovery, as most travel in the developing world does.

if you were keen to just relax in utter beauty and tranquility, there is no better spot i know of.

our 'tiki' villa is a good place to kick back and read plenty of books, and play plenty of cards and dominoes. we have tons of fruit growing on our trees! coconut, mango, banana, and avocado in abundance. it is a tropical paradise!

the villa is very well staffed, with housekeeping, a gardener, security and concierge, and well secured in a lovely little cove (with only four neighboring homes). and it is set up exceptionally well for hosting families, with plenty of room/s to sleep, cook, eat and lounge. we now have a wonderful personal chef named dominga, you need only cover food costs! she will prepare simple but delicious fresh food, usually the daily catch brought into el puerto just down the road, or fresh chicken, often with rice and fresh vegetables. it is not haute cuisine, but rather simple lovingly prepared food with local dominican flare. it is a terrific way to relax and enjoy your time together, letting dominga take great care of you (she even stays to do the dishes)! it is a wonderful setting for memorable dinners with the moon and sea.

the d.r. is a wonderful country in beauty and in the friendliness of the people, especially the latter.

i would definitely emphasize that it is a bit off the beaten path. that should be something you find appealing, rather than a deterrent! it is a country that has captured our hearts.
