Description

Brewster Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4 BR, 2 bath, sleeps 8.

Our home sits just 300 yards from Saints Landing and the Brewster Flats. The nearby beach was named for my great-grandfather who arrived in these parts in the 1850's -- our family has been here ever since.

The home is laid out with 2 bedrooms and a full bath at each end of the house (with the living room, dining room and kitchen in between) making it ideal for a large family or for two small families to share. It has many amenities both modern and rustic to make your time in Brewster the most relaxing and comfortable it can be.

Prior renters have remarked on how much they enjoyed the house, especially due to its easy proximity to the beach. Anyone new to this part of the Cape comments on the beauty of the Brewster Flats, whether they are walking out to the sandbars for fishing or clamming, or simply enjoying a cocktail while watching the sunset. I think you will find it one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Our Home: This house is our home; it is not part of some conglomerate of rental properties. My father built this house as a 2 BR cottage in 1946 back from WW2. (His father was born just down the street in 1869!) The house has undergone many renovations through the years including a renovation of the kitchen in 2009 that we did. We use it ourselves for a few weeks every summer, as well as for off-season getaways. This means that it is more like staying with friends than with renting from a resort. It's homey, it's friendly, it's comfortable. We love it and make it a place we want to be. We hope you will find it that way as well.

The Brewster Flats: The nearest beach is Saints Landing, located less than 300 yards down the road to the right as you leave the driveway. The beach is named for my great-grandfather who was shipwrecked (as the legend goes) in Cape Cod Bay in the 1850’s. The Brewster Flats are famous as having the second longest tidal flats in the world (after the Bay of Fundy in Newfoundland). The Flats are beautiful to look at and a lot of fun to explore, especially for kids who can run, dig, chase hermit crabs, and swim in shallow water. In our opinion, Saints Landing has some of the most beautiful sunsets you will see anywhere as it one of the only places on the East Coast where you can watch the sun sink into the water.

When you come home from the beach, you can relax on the very private back deck, or in our hammock, from either of which you look out on unadorned woods. You can't see any neighbors (and they can't see you!). On the other hand, you might see any sorts of natural fauna: a red-tailed hawk has often lived in one of our trees, to say nothing of foxes, deer, chipmunks, squirrels and all sorts of birds.

Other local attractions: -- Brewster General Store – About a mile to the east on 6A. A wonderful place to wile away an hour or two, the store dates to the mid-nineteenth century and looks and feels like a general store right out of Norman Rockwell.

-- Cape Cod Museum of Natural History – Located about a mile to the west on 6A. Educational source of all the local flora and fauna. Numerous nature trails adjacent.

-- Captains’ Golf Course – Brewster’s local municipal golf course. Two 18 hole courses. Winner of many awards.

-- Cape Cod National Seashore – Federally protected shoreline that runs pretty much the entire length of the outer Cape (the side that faces the Atlantic Ocean). Beautiful beaches, hiking trails, bike trails, natural habitats, lighthouses.

-- Whale Watching – Most boats sail out of Barnstable Harbor or Provincetown Harbor.

About Joe Saint

My wife and I 'bought' this home from my brothers after my father passed away. It had been built as a 2 BR cottage when my Dad came home from WWII. Our family has been on this street since the 1850's and the local beach is named for my great-grandfather.

Now my wife and I use it for our own vacations with our two young children. Many of the families in the area have been here for multiple generations as well.

Joe Saint purchased this cottage in 2005

Great quiet place for families

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to spend time with family -- or even two small families as each wing of the house has an adult bedroom and a kids bedroom with two twin beds. Just a 2-3 minute stroll on a quiet road to the beach, where our kids loved running around the flats at low tide and finding hermit crabs in shallow pools of water. The house is well-maintained and comfortable and the back porch and back yard are set up for fun, with a hammock, fire pit and comfy Adirondack chairs. We even saw a red fox eating some of the bird seed that had fallen from the feeder. The owners also provide a very helpful packet to answer any household questions and also suggest local attractions (playgrounds, biking trail, etc.) and their favorite restaurant choices (great casual fish places and ice-cream suggestions!). Couldn't have asked for a better getaway house for the family.

Great location, well equipped and spacious

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this Cape Cottage which is walking distance to the beach. The owners responded cheerfully and quickly to questions and made the rental process simple. The house is laid out so that everyone in your party can find a bit of quiet space for themselves. The kitchen is well-equipped and the cable stations are generous. WIfi was easy to access and the house library is excellent. There are windows with views of the large yard which also gives the feeling of space. We were happy to be able to bring our dog along as she enjoyed the off season beach opportunity.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

A short walk to the beach from this updated cottage with a newer addition. The nearby beach is great for swimming at high tide, and exploring the mud flats at low tide. The mattresses were newer and we all slept well. Nice kitchen in the house and a selection of good restaurants in the area. All the appliances were in good working order. The owners were very helpful and provided a lot of information about the area. And it is great that they allowed us to bring our dog.

A perfect getaway for those with kids/dogs

  • 5 of 5

After three relaxing days at this rental we were sad to head back home! This rental property is a few hundred yards from amazing beachfront and also off the beaten path. Getting to the beach during low tide is a MUST and perfect for kids to explore the tide pools. It is also only a short drive in to town, which makes it an ideal location for anyone looking to venture out to some great restaurants and shops after a day at the beach. The house is well-stocked and also has a nice yard to play in. We kept our toddler and two Labs entertained with ease! Furthermore, the owners are quick to respond to email inquiries, personable and helpful in making sure your visit is excellent. As we soaked up our last few moments of relaxation my husband commented that the rental "just felt homey" and I couldn't agree more.

Brewster is a quiet town, primarily consisting of homes, B&B's and antique shops. It is known as the sea captain's town as many ship captains lived here in the 19th century, whose homes are still around. Our home's neighborhood is very near to the beach, with the majority of traffic being families walking to the beach. The beach here is known for the amazing Brewster Flats where the tide goes out well over a mile at low tide providing wonderful areas to walk, play and go fishing or clamming.

Other Activities: Clamming

Golf: The Captain Golf Course is a municipally-owned public golf course about 10 minutes from the house. It features two award-winning 18-hole layouts, with multiple elevation changes and beautiful maintained grounds. There are practice facilities as well as a full pro shop and 19th hole. Club rentals are available. Walking or riding is allowed.

Notes:
We also provide a pretty full complement of dishes and utensils for almost any situation or meal. There is a hammock in the backyard. The back deck has 8 chairs plus a long bench, and two outdoor tables making it very easy to eat any meal outside. The back deck specifically, but really the whole backyard, is very private and secluded. You can't see any neighbors from the back deck, and you can barely see any from anywhere in the backyard. The house is set back from the road by about 50 yards giving some room in the front yard as well for wiffle ball or the like.
