Be ready to deal with an unprofessional landlord!
I lived there for a month and couldn't be more exited to move out.
On move-in day I called the landlord to get the keys and he didn't answer the phone until 9:30 PM. At that time he made me drive 30 minutes to his house to pick up the apartments keys.
Once I move in, the cable and wi-fi were not working. I immediately called the landlord (Adam) and he didn’t pick up his phone but answered via text message. We agreed on him coming to the studio to check it out at 10:00 am on the following day, and I mentioned I had work but I could juggle my schedule. The next day I went to work at 11:00am without hearing a word from Adam and it is not until I text him at 12:00 when he tells me he won’t be able to make it but his wife will come take a look (she never answered my calls/texts). 5 days later the wi-fi was still not working and I asked him if I was going to do something about it. His response: “I’m sorry I wasn't planning on getting sick… I will TRY and fix it tomorrow”. Finally, after 7 days, he fixed the wi-fi.
In my 30 day stay, the toilet broke THREE times, and multiple times I had to use the restroom at corner’s gas station. The first day I waited 4 hours for the plumber to come and the second time I waited 5 hours… both times I had to remain in the room because “the plumber will be here anytime between x and y” and then the usual “he is running late he says he’ll be there in 15 min” which ended up being 2 hours.
Adam will leave a key to the studio right next to the front door, so he can enter the studio without having to carry the key on his keychain. He actually called me to ask me about the key because he couldn’t find it and he left it outside the studio.
If you take the bottom studio, you will hear EVERY single step from the upstairs studio. I have lived in apartments for years but this is the first time I can’t handle the noise.
If a light bulbs goes off, Adam will make you buy them and install them yourself, so don’t bother texting him.
There are also good things about the apartment. For example, the bed is comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need to cook, the place looks cozy and of course location. I think if a professional or someone with a better sense of hospitality ran this place it would be a decent place.
In conclusion the landlord (Adam) is extremely unprofessional and will blame others for what is wrong with the studio (plumber, AT&T, sickness). Don't expect any compensation either.
Cozy studio, great location, helpful owner!
I stayed in a nearly identical apartment located just below the property shown (that balcony was my porch roof), so, while I don't know the specific unit, I do know the layout, the location, and the people you'll be dealing with.
This is a very nice part of town-I stayed for six weeks, and almost never had to use my car...Gym, small organic grocery, nice restaurants, park to walk my dog...all of this was within 5-15 minutes' walk of my front door. The place felt safe, it was tastefully decorated, and the owner was always available to help but never bothered me.
My only reservation about writing this review is that I'll want to stay there the next time I come to Austin and I hope you're not in it then.
Studio is perfect size for a couple. The studio is entirely upstairs and the outdoor courtyard is shared with anyone else who is renting a house on the lot. We never had an opportunity in the courtyard because there was always a large group partying in it. The noise from the group kept us up each night; the studio is not well noise insulated. The owners left us half a roll of toliet paper and we had to buy our own after that. The neighborhood is nice with a great park one block away. We had a great experience, minus the toliet paper, but I would not stay here during a big festival in austin if you are looking for quiet or private.
