|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Stay at the Watauga Lake vacation rental home with the most private shoreline! Whipkins Cove has more than 300 feet... and it's swimmable. Plus you get a private dock during your stay.
Lake Watauga Luxury: Who said you can't have luxury when you're lakeside? Whipkins Cove comes complete with leather couches, plush bedding, 5 flat-screen TVs, an extensive DVD/CD collection (hundreds to view), Wii gaming system and more. Foodies will love the well-appointed kitchen. In addition to the stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and gas-burning stove, Whipkins Cove has All-Clad pots and pans (including stock pots large enough to boil 20 ears of corn), Wusthof professional-grade knives, 4-slot toaster, pancake griddle, stainless steel mixing bowls, large food-prep area and more. All nine guests can comfortably gather around the solid wood dining room table, while comfortable handmade Adirondack chairs beckon visitors to pause on the decks outside.
Great gatherings: This is a great place for multi-generational family gatherings. There is ample gathering space for everyone to share meals or a movie, but also plenty of spread-out space throughout the three-story home and extensive collection of porches and decks. Sorry though, this is not a house for wild parties or load-'em-in breaks from college. Also, no pets. An ill-mannered dog has forced us to rethink our pet policy.
Watauga Lake house for all seasons: This is a home for all seasons! Springtime brings new flowers, active wildlife, crisp mornings and cool nights. Summer, of course, offers swimming and fishing right off the private shoreline. Autumn’s tapestry of vibrant reds, yellows and orange paint the hillsides in breathtaking hues. And in winter, you can experience Watauga Lake at its most peaceful. You might even get to see snow falling on the glassy winter lake as you nestle by the fire indoors. You’ll certainly find snow each winter on the ski slopes within a 45-minute drive across the Tenn./NC state line. The cabin’s two-story wrap-around decks and expansive lower decks give guests plenty of room to spread out. Six-plus acres of woods surrounds the cabin and delights nature lovers with its mature trees, fern-and-moss-covered embankments and striking rock outcroppings. More than 300 feet of private shoreline give guests so much to explore – possibly with wildlife sightings of beaver, deer, herons and black bears.
First of all, I would like to say thank you for accommodating all of our families this weekend. We had so much fun, from swimming around the cove, riding on the boats and just relaxing around the cabin. I would highly recommend rending a boat for a couple days and exploring the lake. I also recommend making a bonfire, because our families had a blast making s'mores and just talking around the fire. (Comment written in guest book).
An incredible lake home for our entire family and friends. You will not be disappointed. The owners have thought of every little detail. Super clean and awesome!! My husband is a culinary instructor and absolutely loved the gourmet kitchen. Stocked with all the bells and whistles to create wonderful meals. All the rooms and beds are so comfortable. The private cove boat dock, the kayaks, the endless hours of noodling, relaxing and lake fun. The house layout is fantastic for places to watch TV and or read a book. Looking forward to coming again!!
You will not be disappointed with this rental. The location and view are awesome. It has a very rustic, lake house feel, but everything is very modern. Wonderful kitchen with lots of great cookware. The beds are super comfy and the game room downstairs is great for kids. The entire house was exceptionally clean. There are decks everywhere with deck furniture to enjoy and a gas grill. We had so much fun with the boat and kayaks, fishing, and roasting hot dogs and making s'mores at the fire pit! The owners are great to work with.
We are amazed at your attention to detail.
For the first few days we were there with my brother and his family from Atlanta as well as my sister from Phoenix. All travel extensively and all were wowed by your house and the entire set up.
At one point we decided to make up a game called "stump the landlord".
Want a Tom Hanks movie ? Yep two or three
Want a sharpie pen ? Yep (kitchen drawer)
Want a hex key ? Yep (one was with the tools in the utility closet, are you kidding me?)
We had major adventure using your kayaks and our paddleboards going up the cove to the whitewater of the Watauga.
We could not have been more pleased.
We are definitely planning a return visit.
You have a gift for hospitality by remote control.
house had everything for everyone! the littles loved the toys and huge dvd collection - the middles loved the Wi and their own 'space'. we all loved the top of the line everything. we brought firewood and marshmallows for the firepit - we brought our boat but you could easily rent one there and keep it docked at the house. spent most of the week in our bathing suits. and everyone had fun fishing. we will be back. oh - the most thought should go into what to bring grocery wise. we planned and brought it all and I didn't step foot in a car for a WEEK! wonderful!
Stayed at Watauga Lake twice this summer (came here because Boone Lake was drained this summer). First stayed at a property atop a hill that claimed to be waterfront. Hey people: Having a dock in the water doesn't count as waterfront if you HAVE TO DRIVE TO THAT DOCK.
Whipkins Cove REALLY IS waterfront. The house is great. Up to date, clean, upscale comfortable. Wonderful!!! Can't beat the well-stocked kitchen with plates and cookware you want to use. And the shoreline is huge! Great for both swimming and docking your boat. Looking forward to returning next summer.
My family enjoyed a wonderful week at Whipkins Cove. With 5 children (4 teenagers) it is always difficult finding suitable accommodations and this was amazing. The bedrooms are spacious, the bathrooms well designed, the kitchen well-equipped, the decks spacious and the indoor gathering spaces were well-suited for games or reading/downtime. The water is beautiful and a very comfortable swimming temperature when we were there. With little boat traffic in front of the cabin we felt like we had the place to ourselves! We enjoyed the kayacks and exploring the waterways. We certainly certainly could have spent our entire time at Whipkins cove but we also enjoyed Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Blowing Rock, ziplining, hiking, and much more... A favorite of our teenage boys was jumping off cliffs at nearby waterfalls (not for the light of heart) and our 7 year old loved going gem mining.
Watauga Lake is the most-pristine and most-undeveloped lake in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) system. More than half of Watauga Lake’s 105 miles of shoreline lies within the Cherokee National Forest and cannot be developed. Scuba divers might like checking out Old Butler, located on the bottom of Lake Watauga.
