Inland Empire House Rental Photos and Description

BOULDER HOUSE IS A LIGHT, NOISE AND FIRE -SENSITIVE PROPERTY. NEIGHBORS FIRST!

***RATES VARY WITH PARTY SIZE***PLEASE INQUIRE*

Some houses just have 'it.'

'It' being that romance, comfort and sense of home that somehow makes you want to snuggle in and stay forever.

First , there's the dramatic contrast between inside and out. From the jaw-dropping grandeur of our fifteen private, boulder-strewn acres, laced with private hiking trails and seasonal creeks and climbing opportunities, you step into a sanctuary of luxury, detail and sophistication rarely seen in remote locations.

There are rooms made of rock. Sleek banisters crafted by a local artisan to resemble snakes. Artist-designed -and -created concrete countertops with Mexican tile detail. Original paintings, prints and photos everywhere. And every rug, blanket, placemat, vase, serving piece, coffee cup, and frame is lovingly chosen and carefully placed to create a magical desert nest.

The. House is big. Rambling. There are cozy nooks for sleeping, reading , drawing, intimate talks. (We can sleep 14 people in beds). There are public rooms for gathering, dining, hanging out. There's a fully-equipped kitchen, with two cable TVs, and wireless internet throughout. A rocking (green!) woodstove (wood provided) for nights around the fire. Powerful, dual-zone heat and air, atmospheric lighting, iPod dock and speakers, comfy beds with top-quality linens, free domestic and Canadian landline service ...basically, everything you need to feel pampered and settled in.

Outside, lovely patios and comfortable seating await. There's a private, walled jacuzzi outside the master, a full-size pool ( not heated) , gas barbecue and an outdoor shower with a view of the entire desert floor.

Days here are brilliant and glorious. Lizards scamper, birds dip and swoon. Breezes come and go. Desert blossoms open and close. You may see jackrabbits, tortoises, quail. The silence is majestic.

At night, the desert comes alive with technicolor sunsets, endless skies and stars as you've never seen them before. Bats dip, coyotes howl. Shadows morph and disappear. If you listen, you will hear the presence of all the spirits in the desert.

The peace, silence, vastness, freedom and the unique living energy of the desert vortex have drawn people to this area since the days of the Chemeheuvi.

So come. Experience. Enjoy.

You'll find that Boulder House is so much more than just a place to sleep.

It's a place to awaken.

About Barbara DeSantis

As a director and an artist, it's not surprising that the visuals were what got us. The road wound up through the desert, the yuccas and Joshua trees becoming more and more plentiful as the signs of civilization retreated. There was Pioneertown itself, perfect as a movie set (well, it was a movie set, duh!), Pappy and Harriet's, and then, of course, the boulders themselves - massive, majestic, at once welcoming and foreboding.

Why Barbara DeSantis chose Inland Empire

The house itself. Of course we appreciate the cool, minimalist modernism of so many brilliantly designed or re-thought desert cabins. But for ourselves, we wanted something a little warmer, cozier. Something that felt more like home. Boulder House, with its four bedrooms ( five if you count the guest bed in the computer room), living room, dining room, TV room, outbuildings and pool, felt right. It had intimate spaces, private spaces, hang-out spaces, outside spaces, places to play and places to work. It sprawled over fifteen acres and had views of washes, a stream, the lights of Yucca Valley far in the distance. It was everything we had been looking for, and it was two hours from Los Angeles. It was home. Ours, and now, if you like, yours. Welcome.

What makes this house unique

Boulder House is a handmade house representing thousands of hours of work by various artists and craftspeople who poured their lives, labor, and love into their sanctuary in the desert. Whatever passion leads you to the desert, we invite you to add your spirit to those of the Native Americans, cowboys, ranchers, dreamers, artists, and visionaries who have blessed Boulder House with theirs.

If you would like to contribute a colorful piece of broken ceramic to our broken ceramic garden bed, please feel free.

If you would like to document the contribution in our guestbook, or on Facebook, we would love to hear from you!

I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to rent the house last weekend. We all had an incredible time and sincerely hope to return soon! That place really has a special energy both based on location and aesthetic.

Absolutely Perfect for our Girls Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This house was everything our bachelorette party could have dreamed of and more! The perfect location, the cozy colorful house, the great pool and hot tub, and most of all the super accommodating hostess Barbara were all superb! 13 of us stayed at the house for the weekend and there was plenty of room for everyone, tons of extra linens, plenty of cups and dishes, and even extra sunscreen! Everything was so perfectly arranged and you can tell the hostess takes great care to make the Boulder House a perfect getaway for anyone staying there. They even have an extra mini fridge which was super helpful for keeping our wine cool! Every lady in our group loved the vibes of the house and the beautiful scenery outside. We're already planning to return someday because we felt so welcome and at home there. I'd recommend this house to any group wanting to experience Joshua Tree and stay in a perfectly managed vacation home.

Our second time staying at this amazing place! The property is a dream! Love all the art that infuses this place! Everywhere you look, there is some treasure, some visual delight, something beautiful, colorful, exotic, fun, humorous, textural!!! I continued to see new things that I had missed before!

Comfortable, cozy and a great place to share with a group!

Thank you, and looking forward to making this an annual event!

2nd Annual trip to BOULDER HOUSE --- a huge success!!!

  • 5 of 5

My group of friends had our second annual May excursion to the Bould House and it was even netter than last year. Such good vibes there, such beauty. We will be returning for many years to come. I honestly can't say enough good things about this space. Every person in our group of 14 commented over and over about how incredible and magical this place is. It truly is one of my favorite spots. Just love it!!! :)

Beautiful and Interesting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed two nights here during our sons wedding. Owner was easy going when we asked to have rehearsal dinner at the house. The meal was catered. The guests were fascinated with the home and everyone had to take the tour. Beds were very comfortable, outdoor area was amazing. There's lots of exploring to do. I don't think you'll have any regrets renting this home. We received our rental packet on time and our deposit was refunded within reasonable time.

The Boulder House is our new Vacation Paradise

  • 5 of 5

THANK YOU so much for what was one of the best weekends me and my friends have had in years. The house was BEAUTIFUL and perfect for us. We loved every minute of it, used it fully and felt very at home there. We also made every effort to leave it as we found it and hope you will find we had great respect for the property.

We had such a lovely time in fact that we want to make this an annual trip — we'd love to rent the house again next year around the same time if it all works out. I also want to rent this space for future artist retreats and workshops. I just love it.

The art, the colors, the energy, the pool, such a delicious experience! Thank you!!!!!

Dessert solace; still reeping the benefits of my stay

  • 5 of 5

Wow. I have heard about Boulder House for a long time. The artwork and the location are what initially drew me to the site. The entire house is a piece of art. It is liberating to be surrounded by nature's beauty, just outside the doors, and human's beauty in the exquisite interior design and architecture of this space. I stayed for 4 days and I wish I could have stayed longer! The beds are comfortable and each bedroom has a unique, charming decor. Sunsets are the enterainment; don't miss the sunsets if you go. I will most definitely return! Thank you for creating this gorgeous and one-of-a-kind space and for sharing it with the world!

Owner's Response: Awww.....thanks for the sweet note! (Blushes). Glad you got the four days, though...I think the experience gets richer the more time you spend. Things, I don't know, unfold. Come back when the waterfall rushes!
