Rumor has it this home was sought out for purchase By the wife of a famous mobster while he was incarcerated in the nearby Marion Federal Penitentiary
The Owner purchased this estate in 2002
House was great and the grounds were beautiful. Great view of the lake. Kids loved the pool and hot tub. Fishing was great too. Had a great time.
Who knew one of our best family vacations would be right here in Illinois! This is a beautiful home with amazing grounds! We enjoyed the pool, hot tub overlooking the lake, the beach, docks and shoreline for fishing, private patio. Owners in the main house were helpful when we had questions and otherwise it was very private. We brought our boat and enjoyed the lake pretty much all to ourselves. We were able to dock the boat at the house. We had fun at nearby wineries and loved hiking at Giant City. Very reasonably priced for the high quality! Thanks Anne and all for a marvelous time-we'll be back!
Although we live just a few miles from this location I booked it for my husband and I to have a place to relax and rest after a long period of stress and loss for our family. It couldn't have been more perfect. Quiet, serene, beautiful, relaxing, fun are just a few of the words we've used to describe it. Spent a lot of time fishing, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors and awesome landscaping. Caretakers were extremely helpful and friendly. The owners are very gracious and accommodating. We love that it provides the perfect setting for us older (70ish) folks and we definitely look forward to our next stay. Thanks Anne for making it all happen so smoothly.
We had an AMAZING time! The pictures do not even do it justice, this place is beautiful! We had 4 adults and 3 young kids (7), (6), and (3). We caught fish left and right from the dock, rented a pontoon and took the kids tubing, went to Pirate Petes arcade in Marion, enjoyed the pool and hot tub, and loved having our own kitchen and grill for food. John and Lynn the gardners were extremely nice and helpful whenever we needed anything. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
How often do these rental spots turn out to be even BETTER than the pictures? That's the case with this charming carriage house that is quite ample in size, scrupuously clean, and beautifully decorated. My husband and I drove south from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. It took six hours, but the ride was well worth it. We had big plans to visit area attractions, but we wound up doing that only one day out of seven. He just wanted to fish all day long, and I could not bring myself to leave the patio or gazebo - my reading stations. My husband caught fish from both docks. It's nice that the property is in a no-wake zone, because you don't get all the disturbances. Everything went just as advertised. We did not use the pool, since it was a bit too cool in May for my taste. Do be careful walking around the pool area. There are embedded latches in the cement that were used to hold a pool cover. They have risen up from the surface and you could trip over them. I understand that the pool is going to undergo some work, and this will be addressed then. The pool was always clean, and we certainly would have used it had the weather been warmer. The outdoor areas are just beautiful. In fact, you will think you are on public property instead of a private home. The property is that expansive. There are mini flower gardens and lots of potted plants. The view from the back of the main and carriage houses is gorgeous at sunset. You are surrounded by the peaceful sounds of birds - no street or loud neighbor noise. We did our grocery shopping at SuperWalmart in Marion. King Tut's is a handy convenience store just 5 minutes away. You can get gas there, too. So, I echo everything that has been said. It was pleasurable talking with Anne and we are thankful for our restful vacation. We will certainly try to make time to go back again.
I would recommend anyone that wants to stay on the Lake stay here. Ann is so very helpful, and is WILLING TO DO ANYTHING, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house itself is magnificent, and so are all the surroundings that go with it. The carriage house is very upscale and unique, making it one of a kind for the area. The furnishing inside the carriage house is beautiful, and you will not be disappointed with the cleanliness of the home either. The house if located on a quiet, no wake zone, and most of the time it felt like the lake was all ours! Thanks again Ann for all you did!
