Our location is ideal for people who have beach, boating, fishing, surfing, bird watching, relaxing or athletic interests. The boat launching area into thousands of acres of the Nauset harbor is only about a 2 min. walk from property.
For lots more photos plus aerial views of the property and info, you can go to our personal website, www.nausetbeachhouse.com Despite what it says about us responding slowly to inquiries we reply quickly -always within hours. We had issues with obvious repeat spammers so didn't respond to them which reflects our lower marks in that area.
Nauset Beach House is spacious and beautiful, offering 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths (plus a great outdoor shower) along with a 2nd kitchen and a 2nd living room in the attached, remodeled cottage.
We take pride in the fact that Nauset Beach House is exceptionally well equipped! There are 2 kitchens and 2 living rooms.
This 2nd living room/dining room is often used as a 5th bedroom as it has a comfy daybed and a new comfortable high quality memory foam queen size sofa bed. The 2nd kitchen area offers an extra refrigerator, another micro, coffee maker, popcorn maker, slow cooker, and beautiful granite seating area. The cottage also has a pretty bedroom with 2 twins beds and a full bath.
The cottage has its own outside entrance but is also connected by French doors and a pretty hallway to the main house. These can be closed for quiet and privacy. This is perfect for grandaprents or others who want to be with the group but enjoy some space too. (The main house and the cottage are always rented to the same group.)
Inside the main large house, there is a large 880 sq ft open concept room with 28 windows. There is a modern kitchen with a granite island to seat 5, a big dining table for 8-10 and a large living room with 2 new Sunbrella sofas, plus loveseat, comfy chairs, 55" LED HDTV, Comcast cable, WIFI, many toys and games, etc.
Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms--the two beautiful queen bedrooms both have water views, one with private bath, the other with a walk out water view deck. From that deck there is a spiral staircase to the observation deck with water views & often gorgeous sunsets over the inlet.
Upstairs, there is also a cute, nautically themed 3rd bedroom that sleeps 3, with bunk beds and a single twin. There are 2 Pack N Plays for your use as well. **(See below for list of children's items.)
Both upstairs baths are spacious with full tub/showers and double Corian sinks, custom cabinetry, etc.
In the walkout basement, there are both ping pong and pool tables, sofas for hanging out and watching the games, and lots of beach toys, boogie boards, skim boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, beach umbrellas, strollers, and a fun red wagon to haul stuff in. This is also where the washer, dryer, iron and ironing board are.
Total inside square footage is 3,800. Outside of the house are 610 sq. ft of 4 big decks, furnished with multiple tables and chairs, lounges, etc. With all this space, there is plenty of room for folks to move around and spread out.
As you can see from the Availability Calendar, we are almost all rented for 2018. Just one week in June and the first 3 weeks of Oct. are left. As we receive deposit checks, we block out the dates. We get many inquiries, so if you know of a week for 2019 that can work for your group, please send us a reply. Every year we have completely booked from Memorial weekend thru October. The price quoted is for 10 people. For more than 10, the price is an additional $100 per person. (Late Oct. thru mid May the house is rented long term to winter residents.)
The house is built of natural woods and is low allergy/non toxic, as are our cleaning products. To honor our guests with sensitivities, no smoking or pets are allowed. Our flower gardens and lawns are all organic and chemical free. For outside play we have a nice flat lawn area and offer a croquet set plus a large bin of various balls, racquets, frisbees, etc..
Please contact us, the owners, for more information, photos, contract details, future availability, and check out our new website, www.nausetbeachhouse.com
Because this is such a great house for entertaining, we have a limit of up to 12 guests to maintain its' fine condition. We do not rent for graduation, weddings, big reunions or other parties, nor to underage individuals.
The house is professionally cleaned from 10-3pm between each Sat. changeover. We provide a beautiful vase of flowers from our gardens upon check in.
As we live near by, we will check you in personally and are always available to help with any of your questions or concerns. In the meantime, we are happy to email you lots more photos.
As is customary on the Cape, we do not provide sheets or towels, but do offer plenty of pillows and blankets. For those not wanting to bring their own, the linen charge is $15 per person for sheets and towels and we request that they be washed as much as possible before check out.
If you have a big family or group and are serious about renting Nauset beach House, it is wise to act early to disappointment.
The shoulder season of May/June and Sept/Oct are much less expensive but equally nice as there are fewer crowds but still lots to do and often wonderful weather. The 3rd weekend in Sept. offers the many free fun events in Orleans called "Celebrate Our Waters". October has the wonderful Orleans Clam BBQ and Wellfleet Oysterfest.
We take pride in the fact that Nauset Beach House is exceptionally well equipped! Between the 2 kitchens, we offer a dual fuel Jenn Air range, quiet Bosch dishwasher, Cusinart food processor, 2 refrigerators, 2 microwaves, 2 blenders, 2 coffee makers, coffee grinders, 2 toasters, lobster & pasta pots, waffle iron, griddles, and many pots, pans, serving dishes, utensils, etc. And a gas BBQ. Everything needed to feed a group....
(For those interested in such things, new in 2017 we added a 55" LED TV, loveseat, commercial dryer, 3 burner Weber BBQ, beautiful dishware and glasses, toaster oven, French press, and quality Henckel knife set. (Please do not put knives in dishwasher.)
WIZARD OF OZ Memorabilia: And most unusual of all, for fans for the famous movie 'The Wizard of Oz', we have a large collection of the personal memorabilia inherited from our Uncle RAY BOLGER who played the Scarecrow in that wonderful movie. We have many of his personal items on display here--- his dance shoes, top hat, his Tony Award for Best Actor, house keys, address book, photos with many celebrities and US Presidents, family members, etc.
For those with other tastes in amusement we have an extensive library of humor books--Dilbert, Calvin and Hobbs, Doonsbury, Garfield, New Yorker, P.G. Wodehouse, etc. There is also a section of non- fiction books, cookbooks, Cape Cod guidebooks, top fiction and a wonderful children's book collection and some quaint vintage such as the Nancy Drew series. Another shelf has over 300 Dvds many of them HD as well as many Cds for musical pleasure. Plus a 55" HD TV with Comcast cable in the main living room. There are numerous games, puzzles and poker in 2 cupboards, a set of blocks, many toy cars and trucks, Barbies and her clothes, stuffed animals, etc. Seriously, there are oodles of quality toys. Like many other items in the house and kitchen, many of the toys are replaced annually as they show dirt or wear.
** For children's use we have: 2 Pack N Plays, 2 high chairs, 2 booster seats, diaper pail, waterproof pads for beds, baby gate, loads of toys and games both inside and out, child size boogie boards, sand and beach toys, child size beach chairs, floaties and a few water vests, etc. You are responsible for their safe usage.
This makes it much easier for you to pack for your vacation, as you do not have to bring as much stuff!
HISTORY: In 1940 the original cottage was built to serve as lodging for the Worsely family during duck hunting season. The location was chosen for its' ideal proximity to the marsh and waters of Nauset Inlet. Awhile ago, it was purchased by Mark Picton, a professional builder, who built the current main house as a 2,800 sq ft 'addition' to the original cottage. The two houses are connected by a wide hallway & french doors and the Ray Bolger memorabilia display cabinet. Another Picton building project, a beautiful house in Ct., very similar to ours, was featured in the November 2009 issue of Fine Homebuilding Magazine.
Nauset Beach House is located in east Orleans which is very convenient for great walking/exploring/playing at Nauset inlet or the more famous Nauset Beach.
Nauset inlet is very calm and more like a bayside beach with warmer water and fun little pools for kids to expore. There is also great kayaking, standup paddle boarding, sailing, water skiing, canoeing and boating here, a 3 minute walk from the house. Just over the dunes is big Nauset Beach which is often voted one of the top 10 beaches in the US and was selected by the Boston Globe as best walking beach in New England. There are over 10 miles of gorgeous waves, white sand and dunes, seashells, pretty beach rocks, driftwood and wildlife.
There are beautiful sunrises, excellent bass and blues fishing, surfing, sunbathing, full moon rises, and swimming in cool ocean waters.

About Richard Thompson
We, Richard and Ann have owned vacation rentals for many years. Richard was born in Mass. and spent his summers on Cape Cod. Ann is from Hawaii. Before we purchased this property Richard had homes in Eastham and one he built himself in Wellfleet. Before we purchased this one in Orleans, we lived in Hawaii and developed our amazing property there, LagoonHouse. Over a few years, it became the #1 most popular vacation rental in Hawaii. Number 10 in the world. We love what we do, work hard and take great pride in making our Nauset Beach House comfortable and filled with amenities of all types, to satisfy all ages. Our full calendar every year and dozens of 5 stars reviews attest to that!
Richard Thompson purchased this House in 2009
Why Richard Thompson chose Orleans
This prestigious area of Nauset Heights was developed over 100 yrs ago and many of those same families still summer in their original cottages. Our location is ideal for people who have beach, boating, fishing, surfing, bird watching and athletic interests. The boat launching area into thousands of acres of the Nauset harbor and marsh system is only about 200 feet from the end of the driveway. The calm water is always a favorite place for kayakers and standup paddle boarders, which can be rented by the half or full day in Orleans. Feel free to bring or rent small boats/kayaks for easy launching & our private lot has ample parking. This unique property also offers access to our Nauset Heights Assoc private staircase down to Nauset Beach. The house is just over a mile away from the public parking area of the famous Nauset beach. The majestic waves of the open ocean at Nauset Beach are only a 15 min. walk over the dune from the boat launching area.
What makes this House unique
Great location near Nauset Beach and the Inlet. Unique amenities for family fun such a pool table, Ping Pong table, hundreds of toys, and 300 Dvd's, croquet set and many outdoor toys. Also very unusual is having a 2nd kitchen. With 2 refrigerators, extra cabinets, etc there is lots of storage and all kinds of appliances and serving pieces so feeding and entertaining a large group works very smoothly.

Spectacular! Exceptional! Heaven!
For the past 6 years a group of five women (the Hens) gather here to celebrate our friendship... an annual event for 24 years! We hope to continue our tradition in Orleans for many more years. Richard and Ann our wonderful hosts and their home is impeccable. The pictures do not capture the true beauty of the home, they provide their guests with every possible amenity you could need for adults and children. The property is beautiful and the view from the widow's walk is breathtaking at sunset. Carol
One of the highlights of my year is the trip to Orleans to rent Richard and Ann’s “scarecrow” house (a little nickname we’ve given it due to Anne’s uncle, Ray Bolger who played the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz). You’ll see interesting memorabilia in the house! The house is beautiful, huge(!) and tastefully decorated. There is something for everyone. Rainy day? No problem. There are books, games, movies, toys and shopping. Sunny day? The beach is within walking distance. Want to see a beautiful sunset? Just walk up the circular stairway to the very top and you’ll see a spectacular view of a sunset. Bring your camera though! Want to explore? Bring your bike, the bike path is easy to get to for a nice scenic bike ride. Or just take a walk and meander through the cozy neighborhoods or just walk on the beach and collect sea glass. Anne and Richard are the most welcoming and sweet couple you will ever run into to. They’ll even tell you happenings in town. In the kitchen, there is every kitchen appliance, tool, or gadget to make a fantastic meal if you want to stay in and cook. I’m already looking forward to next year. Joyce
Ann and Richard have a beautiful home with attention to every detail. The location close to the beach (walking distance to a small cove and private access to Nauset Beach). The house is impeccably clean and thought is behind every aspect of the house from linens to the outdoor Weber gas grill, to the very large flat screen TV, to pots and pans and those gourmet Henckel knives. There are also plenty of books and DVDs, as well as a ping-pong table, beach chairs and games. Everything is top quality and the house has plenty of room for a large group and beautiful views from the rooftop deck. My friends have returned for 6 years’ of visits spent enjoying a girls’ weekend and we look forward to returning next year as well. The owners are always around when needed, but allow guests privacy during their stay. This a perfect vacation home!
Thanks Hens, we loved having you back once again; so happy you appreciated all the new upgrades to the house. We took your advice and just got a new, quality mattress for the daybed, (same as the others we purchased last year). Have a wonderful 12 months and we look forward seeing your smiling faces next year....for your Big Reunion!
This was our 2nd summer week at this beautiful home. The sprawling layout easily and privately accommodates our family of 12. The private yard is wonderful for family dinners and play for the grandkids. The home is open, clean and cozy. The easy access to the bay and ocean is an added plus. Our hosts are helpful and very welcoming. A perfect place!
Hi Becky, thanks so much for the kind words; we really appreciate it! We loved having you guys stay at the house and look forward to seeing you & the whole clan next summer! I've been out shopping; beautiful new dishes, and lots of new toys, new clothes dryer, (no squeak) etc...
Just as advertised. Felt like home.
We had a wonderful time. The home accommodated all our family, so we could enjoy a reunion with family just a block away. The place was very well equipped and had stunning views.Worked very well for our young grandchildren, just a short walk to beach. Our hosts were wonderful and very helpful when needed. We have recommended this home to friends and hope we can return again!
It makes us so happy to hear that you all had such a great time! We loved meeting you and hope our paths cross again next time you are on Cape. Best wishes always!
Signed up for our fourth stay!
We just competed our third year staying at Ann and Richard's property. It is well appointed, Ann and Richard do a tremendous job thinking of everything you may need and are welcoming hosts. From infants to seniors, there is something for every age: toys, music, videos, games, area information, books, a game room and lots of the necessary beach essentials: chairs, boards, umbrellas, toys and coolers. We have been so pleased with the quality of the home, it is clean and very comfortable. Our family of 10 ranges from toddlers to seniors. The property around the Home and cottage provide a beautiful sanctuary to rest and relax at anytime of the day. The gardens are beautiful and serene and the bird watching is plentiful. It is located only a few miles from town to provide ample shopping possibilities.
Great to hear that you and the family had such a great time at our Nauset Beach House! We loved having you once again and Richard got such a kick out of the kids enjoying the handmade blocks. Glad you were able to enjoy some of the garden herbs, the basil and the kale are needing to be picked! Have a great year, looking forward to seeing you again next summer!
Amazing home and neighborhood!! Will come back!
Richard and Ann have created a wonderful, welcoming home with every amenity one could think of! The beautiful, private yard is quiet and peaceful, but close to beaches and town. The house easily accommodates extended family gatherings or groups of friends. We had a family reunion here last week, drawing people from NY, MA, NH, PA and OR. Three families stayed in this house and others at my parents' home in South Orleans, but we all spent time together at this wonderful place - 4 generations! We had one big dinner with everyone out on the porch, and the open concept living/dining/kitchen area was the scene of many late night talks, meal preparation, and movies. The great-grandchildren enjoyed playing hide and seek, wiffle ball, and croquet in the yard, and pool and ping-pong in the basement when they weren't at the beach or playing board games in the annex dining room. Others enjoyed sailing and kayaking in the bay, early morning walks over the dunes to the north end of Nauset Beach, sunset strolls to the staircase on the heights to enjoy the view or jumping in for a swim in the "swimming hole" down the beach. There was plenty of room to spread out, and the separate original cottage was perfect for the family with little ones who went to bed early and woke up before the others. Many wonderful memories were made and new friendships gained with Richard and Ann, who were wonderful hosts and next door neighbors! None of us wanted to leave and we all hope to repeat this again next June! (Almost don't want to spread the word about this special place!)
Beautiful location. Immaculate. Nothing missing.
House was as described. Plenty of room for 8 Guys. Owners met us when we arrived, showed us the entire home, they couldn't have been nicer. Very clean. Grounds were beautifully cared for and landscaped. There is nothing missing that you may need in the house. I'm sure we will return! Thank you for a great week!
