Unsurpassable view, beauty all around

  • 5 of 5

Travel up the rugged road to Birdsong and you'll experience a view that is almost too spectacular to believe. This is why you go. Minor complaints about this or that are almost comical when you consider you are visiting a uniquely beautiful natural wonder from a stunning vantage few people will ever know. We had perfect weather, so Arenal loomed magical and vivid every hour of the day. I hope you're as lucky, but if clouds hide the great volcano, the splendid landscaping and birdwatching all around Allan's quiet lush property are accomplished co-stars in this dramatic panorama. Ask him how to hike all the way (past the spring) to the great waterfall below the house---it's a real effort with mud and steep sections, but not too far and worth the trek. Intoxicating beauty is the promise of Birdsong...and yes, it delivers.

Fantastic view of Arenal volcano. Friendly informative host. Close to zip line, hot springs.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. Host Allan is friendly and informative. He recommended several wonderful restaurants, booked our zip line tour for us, and recommended a nice affordable hot spring resort. The view even from the lower apartment which we stayed in is incredible. Just be aware that the large windows face east and the sun comes up over the mountain at 6am. Can't say if the curtains keep the sun out since we are early risers and enjoyed watching the sunrise every morning. There was also a hummingbird that came by every mourning around 6 right outside the windows. The apartment was clean and comfortable. We did have an issue with the toilet flushing properly, but Allan got it repaired right away. We stayed 3 nights during which time I saw one roach and NO ants, so to me that is great for being in the jungle. We debated if we would need a 4 wheel drive and ultimately rented one. While you could probably get to this property without a 4x4 I would recommend one both for access to this location as well as driving around the country in general. A side note on rental cars be sure to check about insurance when you get a quote as it can add 100-150% to the rental cost if you get to the counter and have to add it. The deck is available to both the upper and lower units and you could easily spend many hours out there enjoying the view of the volcano, Lake Fortuna, and the rain forest. Lake Fortuna is incredible, reminded me of Lake Tahoe, and if you have time be sure to drive around the lake some. As I said before we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.

Great Views overall rating was good!

  • 3 of 5

Birdsong Villa has the most amazing view of Arenal and waking up to all of the birds chirping was the cherry on top. There is a great hike on the property which leads you down to a small waterfall. Allen was a great host and the breakfast hit the spot. Per other reviews of Birdsong Villa - the house could use a deep cleaning and de-cluttering. We expected bugs since we were in the rainforest like mosquitoes etc, however my kids had a hard time sleeping after seeing some of critters crawling around at night. The frogs and geckos were fun, but we could do without the large spiders, huge beetles and a few others we saw lurking around the kitchen and floor. Hopefully this doesn't discurage others from staying here, but gives an incentive to the owner for up keeping this place to its fullest potential.

Beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

Birdsong is a great place if you want to get away from it all. It is high on a hilltop and you feel you are alone, even though you really are close to a lot of things. Best are the views of the volcano and the lake - really can't be beat. Allan, the host, is like staying with an uncle. He's there to help but also keeps out of your way. The road up to the place is rocky and disconcerting at first but you get used to it pretty quickly. Allan's driver took us around and it worked great.

Captivating!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our amazing Costa Rica vacation! We stayed at Birdsong B & B Villa in El Castillo which turned out to be a captivating place. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Allan the owner who was friendly and helpful and ensured we were settled in and had everything we needed. In the few days we were there Allan was very attentive and our teenage boys had such a blast with Allan that they told us "Allan is the coolest and the best". Every morning we would have a delicious breakfast prepared by Fabricio which included eggs, fruits, toast, juice, coffee and even typical pinto de gallo (loved it). Yes, few bugs here and there but that is everywhere in Costa Rica and it doesn't take away the amazing feeling of being in the middle of the fauna with the spectacular view of Arenal Volcano and the Lake Arenal. Every morning we sat at the viewing platform with our coffee to enjoy the amazing view and watch and listen to all the beautiful birds flying around. The road to get there is not paved but we had a 4x4 SUV so it was no biggie. Can't wait to go back to visit our new friend Allan and Costa Rica again!

QUAINT AND SPECTACULAR VIEW

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our wonderful vacation in Costa Rica, we stayed in Birdsong Vila, Castillo at Allan's place.

We had a wonderful and peaceful time at this quaint place, Allan the owner and Fabricio the breakfast chef were so helpful and friendly, breakfast was good everyday with fruits, toast, juice, coffee, eggs and even a typical plate Pinto de Gallo on a special day (we are thankful and loved it!).

Our teenager boys had a blast riding the ATV around with Allan, they said he is simply the man and the best! Lol.

Yes, few bugs here and there but that is everywhere you go in Costa Rica and it doesn't take away the amazing service and feeling of been in the middle of the fauna with the spectacular view of Arenal Volcano and the Lake plus the wake up with the signing of the birds every morning.

We sat at the big terrace with coffee to listen and watch the birds flying around every dawn before we start our daily adventures.

You are closed to a lot of the main attractions, Sky Adventures, Arenal, Observatory Lodge, Hot springs etc.

The road to get there is not paved but we had a 4WD car so was no biggie at all, GPS got us there with no problem.

We can't wait to go back to visit Allan and Costa Rica again.

Mike, Yoli and the Boys.
