I have lived in Florida, New York City, and Jamaica. Have traveled the world looking for beautiful destinations, and have found this area to be one of those 'world class' destinations. Graduated Queens college in New York City, majoring in Business.
ALLAN RUDICK purchased this house in 2009
I have traveled to Costa Rica numerous times over the last decade. I have found this area to suit me, because of the natural beauty, and easy-going lifestyle. Also have friends that live in area.
I enjoy the serene and quiet environment, while still having easy access to the local restaurants and shopping in the nearby town of El Castillo and La Fortuna. I also enjoy the benefit of friendly neighbors, and the green style of living.
We stayed at the Birdsong Villa for the first part of our honeymoon in Costa Rica. We upgraded from the Garden View room to the Birds View room and it was definitely worth it - the view is amazing and the set up is just perfect. Allan was a wonderful host; he made suggestions (must have a meal at La Ventanita! and hot springs to visit at Los Lagos) and set up tours for us (a hike/zip line combo with Sky Adventures). We loved the observation deck for sunsets, and having breakfast with Allan out on our patio. This was the perfect location for us to explore the Arenal area and it felt luxurious to be in a private home as opposed to staying at hostels/hotels. An SUV is best for navigating the gravel roads, but we found that was the case with most of the driving around Arenal and even towards the coast in CR. We enjoyed the road trip from Liberia, and made fun stops along the way (Lake Arenal Brewery was cool). Thanks!
Birdsong is an amazing property if you like to be away from the horde of tourists yet close to some amazing activities such as Sky adventures (zip-lining and guided walks in the jungle), Arenal Observatory lodge for great hiking trails and the many hot springs. The view from the villa is outstanding, overlooking Arenal volcano, Lake Arenal, the jungle and grazing cows and horses. Allan, the owner is a great host, joining us for the delicious breakfasts and giving us an insider view on life in Costa Rica and specifically the regions of El Castillo and La Fortuna. The house itself is comfortable and it was incredible experiencing wind and rain beating against the many windows. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of Costa Rica.
It was just an amazing place. Allan (the owner) is very nice and he cares for everyone who stay at his place. The place is clean, the breakfast is really good! If you want to go to a little paradise on earth.. it's your place!
This is as the Costa Ricans say, "pura vida!" Pure life! We loved everything about our stay at Birdsong. The location is breathtaking. The way the morning mist settles over the dense rainforest is just sublime...and you have a panoramic view of it each morning as you arise to a delicious breakfast cooked by a man who prides himself as much on his food as he does his personality (both of which are incomparable.) :-) As other reviewers have said, if you are a person averse to mountain roads and remote outings, this may not be the place for you. We'd advise making the first trip there during the day. The upside is so well worth it. At times we felt we were the only ones on the Earth! At other times we had the company of the immediately amiable Allan, a tough New Yorker turned soft by years of Pura Vida. Allan adds pizzaz and personality to your stay. He's a sweet guy who genuinely wants your time at Birdsong to be as enjoyable as possible. If you want alone time just mention this to him and he'll keep his distance, but at least have breakfast with him one morning. He is as much of a character as the surrounding landscape is green. He also gives great advice on where to go and what to see. Everything you'd ever want to see is a short drive away -- the Volcano lake, hot springs, hikes, a Butterfly Conservatory, hanging bridges! While you there be sure to enjoy the amazing food cooked and served in an very warm and personable setting at the nearby Phoenix Restaurant. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Allan and his incredible getaway to you. Happy Vacationing!
Make sure to find your way during the day. The directions ended up being very good, but its a climb. We are used to mountain roads too. So worth it though!!! The view was exceptional and Allan was a very good host. Great to be able to have breakfast or dinner made for you if you'd like.
We loved our stay at Birdsong. It was stunning. We stayed at four VRBOs around Costa Rica in a four week period and Birdsong was one of the best. Allan was so nice and gave us great suggestions. He suggested we take the kids to Los Lagos which was brilliant for the cost. The kids loved the jacuzzi and the frog in the outside shower was awesome as well as the tadpoles in the little pond on the wall. We hiked down to the waterfall and that was an adventure and a half. We also went caving.
People complain about the road on this page but really....all the other roads in Costa Rica are like this also. Consider it an adventure!!
Breakfast was yummy and a pleasant surprise upon booking. Thank you Allan and if we come back to La Fortuna area - we will be booking with you.
