About Maureen Cain/Brad Barco

I lived in this house until 2010. Now I live next door on the site that my parents' enjoyed during the summers since the 1950's.

Why Maureen Cain/Brad Barco chose Newport and Aquidneck Island

My family lived next door for sixty years and I spent many a glorious summer day swimming and boating . As an adult, the drawing factor is the beauty of the water and the great diversity of water fowl and the fact that stress just melts away as soon as you arrive home. The sunrises and the breezes are a plus, too! Even the impending change of the weather, easily seen across the water, is awesome.

What makes this house unique

Direct waterfront that exceeds expectations for views and privacy, plus the charm and convenience of Portsmouth's unique little community including sports bars and great restaurants within 1/2 a mile.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Dear Maureen +Brad, Henry and I have stayed in several rental vacation homes before and yours is up there with the best. Our adult children's family had the space + the privacy they needed. Your location is second to none! The serenity is perfect. Thank you for your tolerance of our wiffle ball games. We all appreciated the amount of soaps, toilet paper, shampoos, + bedding + towels. The home was sparkling when we moved in. The dishwasher is large and excellent as are all the appliances. Thank you for your hospitality."

Second time staying here

  • 5 of 5

Rented this property in August 2015 and then again in June 2016. There were 4 adults and my cocker spaniel. This is perfect for kayaking and exploring the cove, the river and out to the bay. Found a couple of light bulbs that were out and the owner responded immediately to get them replaced. The house has everything you would need to have a great vacation which we have had both times we have stayed. Can't say enough positive things about the entire experience from contacting the owner initially to rent the house to the quick return of my security deposit. Will be back again in the future! Thanks again.

Perfect vacation

  • 4 of 5

Very beautiful location. The house was very clean and comfortable. The only reason I did not rate our experience five stars is because the mattresses were wrapped in plastic making noises when we turned and keeping us hot.

Maureen took her time to explain every detail about the house and she was very nice!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and we certainly agree with your frequent refrain that this is a little piece "of paradise". We are proud of our prompt responsiveness to guests and of the clean, safe, comfortable environment we provide. Part of our plan is to assure guests that all beds are kept in the most sanitary manner possible by protecting the mattresses with moisture/stain resistant vinyl covers (which can be disinfected) placed under the quilted mattress pads and sheets. We constantly strive to improve guests' experiences. Although we won't promise to remove the mattress coverings, we will look into removing the mattress topper on that particular mattress and the availability of a quieter, more breathable mattress cover. Truthfully, we have never had such a complaint but then other guests do use air conditioning on hot nights, so that may be the difference. Our "Welcome Binder" practically begs guests to 'immediately' report any problems and concerns. so we can address them early on. Unfortunately, when guests inform us of concerns on check-out it is too late to accommodate particular preferences.

Excellent property for College Graduation

  • 5 of 5

Perfect everything. The house was very clean and had everything we needed and the rooms are much larger than they appear in the photos. We stayed at this lovely home while attending my daughter's graduation at Roger Williams University. We were able to gather with family and enjoy the time together - so much better than a hotel. The deck was amazing and we just wished we had move time to "relax"! My only regret was that we didn't find this place four years ago to book for Homecoming Weekend and other RWU events, since it's only about 10 minutes from the college. Would love to come again.

Owner's Response: Dear Mary, Thank you for the great review. It "is" a great place for RWU's families to enjoy and celebrate the accomplishments of their sons, daughters, and relatives. Thank you for pointing this out and how close it is to the University. Hope you can come back and stay with us longer next time. Best regards, Brad and Maureen

Great house with marvelous views!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at this wonderful home! Plenty of space for 6 adults and 1 baby. The entire house and deck are kept pristine and the views are gorgeous! The house has almost all you can think of from sheets/towels to a waffle maker. The house is located on a quiet street that is easy to get to. Would definitely recommend the property to anyone travelling to the Newport area!
