About Makiko Boyd

I grew up in Niigata, Japan. It is the place in Japan where skiing was introduced in 1911. My father was the ski instructor, and I started skiing when I was only 3 years old. The Hotel Alyeska was built and operated by Japanese company, I knew the name "ALYESKA", but never thought I would live in Alaska until I met my husband John. He grew up in Dublin, Ireland, and he never skied before, but he loved beautiful snowy Girdwood and found a house potential as a vacation rental.

Makiko Boyd purchased this house in 1997

Why Makiko Boyd chose Girdwood

My dream since high school was to own a B&B one day. We saw the open house sign 1997 on our drive to the hotel, and just took a look. The property had such special atmosphere with the sound of the creek so relaxing and calming! Build as a duplex, the two units are very private. They are connected by a breezeway and Hot tub area. We thought this property was the perfect place for our vacation home and for maybe running the B&B one day when we have more time.

What makes this house unique

The lovely sound of the creek is so relaxing- it creates a peaceful setting for your getaway.

The ski slope, restaurant and hotel are all walking distance.

There is also a soccer field across the street, that turns into a cross-country trail in the winter time. Great location!! Girdwood is the only resort for world class skiing in Alaska, and Glacier Creek Lodge is the perfect getaway!!

Wonderful Bed & Dinner Experience

  • 5 of 5

We had a memorable stay at your lodge. It was comfortable, clean and is located in a spectacular place. The dinner was absolutely wonderful. Preparation, presentation, freshness and value best describes the wonderful meal that was served for us. I highly recommend the Glacier Creek Lodge!

Owner's Response: Lenaさん、この度は新企画の夕食と宿、Bed & Dinnerをご利用頂きありがとうございました。ご満足頂き嬉しく思っております。またのお越しを心よりお待ちしております。 (Lena's Review) I stayed here with my family. There is a famous breakfast restaurant nearby. When you take a morning stroll on the trail just across the street the view is beautiful. The house is very clean and comfortable. In the cool summer of Alaska it was pleasant to be able to use the warm Jacuzzi and sauna. We tried the special deal of Bed and Dinner, The Japanese dinner was very delicious and there was so much food! Those who are familiar with Japanese food can relax. And those who are not will have an opportunity to enjoy a new cuisine. Host/Chef Makiko is a wonderful person. Thank you very much, I would love to stay there again. (Makiko's Reply) Dear Lena, Thank you for using my new project Bed & Dinner. I am very pleased with your satisfaction, we are looking forward to welcome you again. Thank you, Makiko

Comfortable for large group

Overall a good rental home. Owner is pleasant. The thermostat didn't work and no one was available to fix. They need a BBQ and a deck with fire pit and this would be a 5 star

A warm, cozy place, close to Alyeska.

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered in Girdwood to attend the wedding of our nephew/cousin. All of our children and their families wanted to come and we stayed a week so that we could enjoy time together. My parents stayed with us for a couple of days as well. The location of the place was ideal. We went on lots of walks, bike rides and runs, enjoying the trails through Moose Meadow which were accessible right across the road from the house. The house is within walking distance of Alyeska Resort and the ski slopes were close by as well. We rented both units and it was so nice to have one side for the early birds to hang out in while the others slept in. We frequently went back and forth between units and I was glad it wasn't any colder outdoors because there are open porches to traverse between the units! This rental had hand soap, bath soap, dish washer detergent, laundry supplies, tissue, paper towels, etc. already stocked! I've always had to supply my own supplies at every other vrbo rental I've used. We made our own meals rather than eating out and the kitchens were very well stocked with utensils, pots & pans, and baking dishes. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets. We were there the week before Christmas and Makiko had a Christmas tree, lights and other seasonal decorations up which was great! We enjoyed using the fireplace several evenings. We had a wonderful time with family and will fondly remember our Winter Alaskan Adventure.

New Year 2017 Stay

  • 5 of 5

This property in Girdwood was just great. The place was clean, and the design was unique, offering two connected, but separate living spaces. We had plenty of room for everyone, and even in the winter the creek beneath the house "bridge" was flowing and a cool feature. Girdwood is a neat ski town, and with the Alyeska slopes lit up in the evening the whole valley takes on a unique aura!
