About the property

Waterfront Condo: 2/2, Amazing View, Free WiFi, No fees, Birdwatcher Delight

Welcome to the original Cedar Key Tranquility - a vacation rental condo at Fenimore Mill, 2-4 blocks from dining, drinking and the marina on Dock Street in Cedar Key. We are one of the few rentals advertised here without the add on fees. (We are truly located in Cedar Key Florida - about 3 blocks from Dock Street on the Gulf of Mexico. Verify location of the rental you choose -many properties in far away places are now listed on this site as "Cedar Key".)

OWNER operated and managed. Please email to confirm rates and make reservations. We advertise in a number of places and pride ourselves on being available to personally assist our guests without additional cost!

If we are already booked in Cedar Key Tranquility - please check out our other condo also known as Cedar Key Serenity aka VRBO 77937.

Our 3rd floor walk-up, corner condo has a VERY private balcony with fabulous view, gourmet kitchen, king and queen bedrooms, and two full baths set in a small, quiet, condo complex on a peninsula. Furnishings were chosen to impart a feeling of tranquility to complement the breathtaking views of Florida's Nature Coast.

Tranquility is equipped for your comfort and convenience to serve a maximum of four adults. We want you to relax and experience Cedar Key. We have free (& private!) high speed DSL/WiFi, streaming movies, free long distance (US & Canada) - all on the Gulf of Mexico. Experience "Florida without the Mouse"!(sm)

Our northeast-facing balcony offers a stunning view of small mangrove islands, Wacassassa Bay and the Gulf. Enjoy sunrises year 'round and incredible summer sunsets. Breakfast on the balcony offers amazing views of birds, fishing boats, kayaks, and the ever-changing sky and sea. We have a small sandy beach at our fishing dock - perfect to launch your kayak, play in the sand or catch some rays!

Our Cedar Key condo complex (Old Fenimore Mill) is resort-like. There are only 6 units per building and we're on the top floor - so it's relatively quiet - you won't have dozens of people tromping past your door or kids bouncing over your head. No street noise either. Our private fishing dock has a freshwater fish cleaning station. The fishing captains will pick you up at the dock! (And we're happy to recommend our favorite fishing captains!)

Our heated swimming pool and jacuzzi are terrific for relaxing. Boat trailer parking is available on a 'first come first serve' basis. The town beach and park are less than 1 block walk with playground equipment, picnic tables, cabanas and plenty or shade or sun - your choice to relax or be active! Park your car in our covered parking and walk to dining, drinking, shops, and the marina. Tranquility is close enough to walk to town, but far enough away so you're not listening to the bar bands under your bed...

Surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, the Cedar Keys consist of dozens of islands or keys. About twelve of these islands are reserved as a part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge and several are designated as 'wilderness areas'. The refuge boasts some of the largest numbers of nesting birds in Florida. You will see a variety of birds year round - for more info on birds, we provide lots of information on our other information pages! Ask us. We love to help our guests have the best and the least expensive vacation in Cedar Key Tranquility!

Cedar Key is old Florida at its best. There are no chain stores and most 'traffic' is on foot, golf carts, or boats. The marina (1.5 blocks) has boat and kayak rentals and there are plenty of knowledgeable tour operators happy to take you on a wildlife or sunset cruise. Golf cart rentals are also available. We recommend bringing your own kayak or we can recommend our preferred kayak/canoe rental company on island - we have plenty of storage room and great launching places for you!

Fishing is a favorite with redfish, speckled/sea trout, and sea cats being the primary catch. We partner with local captains to provide you with the best experience of inshore and offshore fishing. Or if you want to go it alone, bring your boat or rent one at the marina. Be sure to bring your camera!

Cedar Key is part of Florida's Nature Coast--the wildlife is abundant, the spring break party crowd is NOT. If you are looking for sugar-sand beaches, wild nightclubs, or singles bars don't come to Cedar Key--you won't find it here. We do have a nice selection of restaurants and drinking establishments. Some places have music on weekends.

We have lots of information elsewhere! Just ask! We have many more photos, a floorplan, a list of amenities, and lots of information to help you quickly get into island life. We're happy to help you plan your stay with us including providing restaurant and tour recommendations and special deals. Hope we can help you enjoy Cedar Key!

A Very Relaxing Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for an anniversary getaway weekend and it was so relaxing. The views were beautiful! The condo was exactly as promised...very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. We walked everywhere and were able to store and launch the kayaks right from the complex. It's a great place for fishing, kayaking or other water sports, photography and just plain relaxing!! Will definitely stay here on our next visit!!

Tranquility at Cedar Key

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our daughter spent four days at Tranquility and loved every minute of it. It is on the third floor so a bit challenging for two 77 year old couple but it all worked out well. The staff is very laid back and very friendly as the whole town is. We never took our car out of the garage and walked to all restaurants and water ways. The view from the balcony is spectacular and you can watch the various birds as well as boats and kayaks going by. It is a very peaceful and lovely place to crash for a few days. Cindy was most helpful with our planning for our trip and very willingly changed out reservation to include an extra day for our daughter to come and join us. The unit has anything you would want in the way of TV's, comfy beds, nice linens, etc. It is very, very clean and we do plan on going back. You can walk to any restaurant and any other spot in the area. Do not come here thinking of boutiques and shopping.....this is strictly a place for fishing, kayaking, wining, dining and enjoying the atmosphere and friendly folks and beauty of Cedar Key. We live on the other side of the state on the beach area and found this a very refreshing change. The owners were very helpful in getting our reservation as well as willing to change our reservation to accommodate our daughter joining us a day earlier.

Owner's Response: Dear Marie, Thank you so much for your nice words about Tranquility and your stay with us. You are so right about the views and being the place to kick back and relax. We particularly enjoy watching the world go by from the balcony. It's a peaceful escape from the world and we love that we can walk for dinner or fishing. I can't wait to welcome you back for another visit! Cindy

Perfect spot to get OFF THE GRID

  • 5 of 5

I had such a wonderful time at Tranquility this week with my parents. Your place was perfect for us to enjoy a few relaxing days together - the unit is perfectly appointed and the views spectacular. I saw my first Roseate Spoonbill and if I could have eaten clams for breakfast, I would have.

I have told many of my friends how perfect our stay was, and I know we will be back!

"Tranquility" at its BEST!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed Wed-Sunday and couldn't have asked for anything more. From the beginning of our trip booking this VRBO Cindy was very helpful, replied to email within a matter of minutes, had an actual phone conversation, was supplied with seafood recipes, tips on restaurants, fishing spots, canoe rentals and even told us where to buy Smoked Mullet Dip......everything was spot on. Easy Check in/check out. Unit clean. Everything you need is provided! Pictures online were true; however sunrise and sunsets must be experienced in person! The outside deck is amazing....I think we were on it every morning, afternoon and evening! Close to Restaurants and bars; we walked everywhere! We did purchase on the way into Cedar Key coffee/creamer/beer/wine and a few snacks which kept us happy while in the condo! If you are in the Cedar Key area I HIGHLY recommend Tranquility rental!

Owner's Response: Thank you Vickie for your kind words and I so appreciate the great review! We try to get our guests everything they need to maximize their vacation time with "doing and experiencing" instead of searching for where to buy Smoked Mullet Dip or where to rent a kayak/canoe! I am so glad you enjoyed your time with us - we'd love to welcome you back! Happy travels!

I highly recommend staying at tranquility and taking advantage of shopping, boat rides, fishing, watching sunsets and awesome plane rides. Pet-Friendly Tranquil Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with family (and two dogs) for several days over the Independence Day weekend. We were very pleased with the property. The condo was well equipped with everything we needed, as described. There was no shortage of towels and sheets, and I equipped the sofa with the "pet sheet" Cindy provided in the closet.

The washer and dryer amenity was essential and appreciated, since we packed light and then went through our clothes due to fishing and perspiring. :) So we made good use of the laundry room.

As for the other basics, the furnishings and bedding was all of high quality. Having a computer and printer was great because we needed to purchase fishing licenses online and print them out. My only suggestion would be to add some barbeque tools and a grill brush. They were the only items that seemed to be missing.

The balcony is my favorite feature of the property. Cindy's idea to equip the balcony with bar height furniture was brilliant. The ceiling fan keeps the "no see ums" (biting gnats) at bay for the most part (do bring "Off!" spray for mornings and evenings). It was a perfect vacation moment as we sat on the balcony, watched the bird life in the marsh, my dad strummed his guitar as we enjoyed cold ones.

Owner's Response: Jo - thank you for your review - I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Tranquility and Cedar Key! And I can envision you on the balcony with your dad strumming his guitar - sounds like a perfect memory of Cedar Key. The balcony is our favorite spot as well, there have been many hours spent relaxing and watching the birds and boats and the colors of the sky reflected in the water. I will replace the missing BBQ tools on my next visit! Thanks again for staying with us and hope we'll see you again soon!

About Cindy

Cindy and John are '50/60 somethings' and new media designers living in middle Georgia where they enjoy birdwatching on a fabulous lake when they are unable to be in Cedar Key. Working vacations are a requirement for us and you can't beat working with Tranquility's view... Please know that you can best reach us via a search for Cedar Key Tranquility or Cedar Key Serenity. We are members of the Cedar Key Chamber.

Cindy purchased this condo in 2002

Why Cindy chose Cedar Key

We started visiting Cedar Key in 1997. An obscure reference to Cedar Key while doing a web search for 'wild Florida' piqued our curiosity and we headed down for a long weekend and fell in love.

Cindy spent her escapes on Cape Cod or the Maine coast in the past. After moving to GA, she couldn't find anything that had the old New England slow seaside town feel - where it didn't matter if you dressed for dinner, where there weren't any silly requirements for what shade of blue you could paint on a sign, and where birdwatching was just something you did as a matter of course, not just with a scorecard.

Cedar Key met all those requirements and more. No chain stores, back in a minute signs in windows of businesses, restaurants with fresh seafood and not just overpriced 'weird of the week'. We looked for a place to visit, found our spot to love and waited five years for our first condo to be built so we'd have an excellent view.

Now more than 20 years later, Cedar Key is still our favorite place to escape. 'Florida without the mouse (sm)'. We still spend most of our Cedar Key time hanging out on our balcony or the fishing dock watching the world go by to de-compress. And we love renting our Cedar Key Florida vacation rental by owner condos out to other like-minded folks and sharing our passion - Cedar Key, Florida.

What makes this condo unique

We've been online since 2002 advertising Cedar Key Tranquility as the Birdwatchers' Delight in Cedar Key with no service charges. We work directly with our guests to help them have a wonderful vacation. Renting directly from the owner provides vacationers with the opportunity to ask direct questions like - do you have a hairdryer? Can I hook up my computer to your WiFi? What's the best restaurant in town? And of course, we love to help our guests plan their trips to Cedar Key from the quick weekend escape to a long stay for snowbirds. We'll tell you the latest on what's new and fun in town! Let us help you enjoy Cedar Key! (Note - not all properties advertised in Cedar Key are truly managed by owner - ask!)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sorry to take so long to write. Hectic days since we got home. The condo was all we hoped for and more. Incredible how well stocked and supplied it is. I didn't do any cooking but sure could have, but you know that. We were all very happy with our stay at Tranquility. The balcony got a lot of use and we really enjoyed the views and birding. Three roseate spoonbills entertained us every AM at low tide, and having ibis pick around in the grass is a first. Exceptional bed in the main - most comfortable I can remember. But toooo big. We sleep on a double at home and kings are always a surprise.I think the high point of our stay was the wonderful dinner we had at the Island Hotel Dining Room. Scott and I also ate at the Island Room on the water, and it was good, but the old hotel was really a very special experience. Tony's clam chowder was as billed - very tasty. And the salads we got there were nice and very large! We did takeout as the cafe ambiance wasn't as good as our balcony. We enjoyed both local museums.Wish you weren't so far away! Thanks for a lovely week.
