Some 40 minute drive from the airport and Corfu Town lies 'The Orchard', a development of four deluxe villas designed in traditional style. On the north east coast of Corfu, nestling amongst olive groves 150 metres above the exquisite Yaliskari Bay, location for the new BBC drama based on the acclaimed book of Gerald Durrell 'My family and other animals'. This idyllic unspoiled bay, great for swimming and snorkeling, is close to the small village of Loustri, with its bakery; and the famous bay of Agni, with a selection of excellent tavernas where you can enjoy traditional cuisine and locally caught seafood and the village of Kalami, famed for the 'White House', where the Durrell's lived and wrote some of their books. Note: Due to the location it not recommended for people with walking difficulties.
Grounds : Large veranda area planted with climbing plants and flowers, pergolas with comfortable sofa and armchairs, outdoor dining table and chairs. Steps lead down to a large stone paved sun deck with outdoor shower, table tennis, deckchairs and umbrellas and an infinity swimming pool.
Steps link the pool level with a gravel path, which zigzags down a steep incline through the olive grove, where traditional cast iron benches have been strategically placed for you to enjoy that relaxing moment, to the pebble beach at Yaliskiri Bay with its beautiful crystal clear waters - ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Boats can be hired from the beach to explore the magnificent coastline. The pool house has a kitchen area with small fridge, ideal for those cold drinks; a laundry room and wc and washbasin and a large motorized charcoal-fired barbecue. Boats can be hired from the beach to explore the magnificent coastline.
Places of interest : little village of Loustri with its small bakery is just under 1 km away. The resort of Kassiopi is a short drive away (15 minutes drive) and is home to many small souvenir shops, bars and restaurants, and also has some larger supermarkets than the immediate area around The Orchard.
Corfu Town is near to the airport and around 40 minutes drive from The Orchard. A cosmopolitan hot spot, Kerkyra, as pronounced in Greek, has many small boutiques, cafes, restaurants and museums.
For restaurants, there are many nice Tavernas in the surrounding bays including the renowned White House Taverna, Kalami, home of The Durrell Family in the 1920s. However, for a true traditional culinary experience, visit 'A La Palaia Taverna' in the remote village of Strinilas on Mount Pantokrator, around 30 minutes drive from The Orchard.
Horse Riding is also a favored activity in the Northern Area of the island. This can also be arranged by The Orchard.
