Amazing! Can't wait to return!
We loved every minute! We were three couples from the Northeast who usually go to the Caribbean and decided to make a change to Costa Rica. My husband and I had been to Costa Rica over 10 years ago so knew the area.
We loved the location of the house.... so near the beach and Hotel Playa Negra. Daily we hung out at the hotel pool and body surfed or surfed at the beach. It was beautiful, relaxing...very much a surf/yoga culture. We took the yoga classes at the hotel and even had a private class at the house one morning with Catherine. She was a a top notch teacher (I'm picky). Great food at the hotel cafe too.
Carla was our concierge...incredibly responsive and recommended activities that were different than the typical tourist things which we loved. She was so delightful and made us feel completely at home. Adrian was also helpful but we didn't see him as much.
The house/property is gorgeous! Even nicer than the photos. And I am picky, very picky.
For me, the location of Playa Negra was perfect because it's 35 min to Tamarindo (the largest town and tourist destination) but remote enough that it wasn't crowded and too touristy. We felt like we were really in another country. The drive from Tamarindo is on a dirt road which can be annoying. It didn't bother me but it did bother two others with us.
I would highly recommend La Choza and actually already have to many friends and family.
Incredible experience all around. Stayed here for my 40th birthday with family and friends. Love it - great location, service, activities. Highly recommend.
Incredible views; amazing property, perfect spot
Seven women who had never been to Costa Rica booked this home for a getaway. Adrian and Carla (manager and concierge) were very helpful: procuring a driver for us to and from the airport and for the excursions, providing us with access to a cook for an amazing lobster dinner at the house one night, and suggesting excursions away from the property. The adventure tour (zipline, rafting, horseback ride, lunch) at Rincon de la Vieja was spectacular; the sunset Catamaran out of Playa Flamingo on the Manta Ray was the best ever. Mateo and his crew on the Manta Ray made us a great lunch, took us snorkeling, keep us hydrated (!) and made sure we got the most beautiful sunset views. Adrian had other suggestions and provided lots of details so we could make informed decisions on what we wanted to do. The Playa Negra beach in front of the house is dramatic, but not the BEST for swimming as it's really a surfing beach. We found sandy spots and were able to bob in the waves. Having the use of the resort pool was nice, but the saltwater pool at the house was also very refreshing and beautiful. The grounds are meticulous, the housekeepers came every day to keep the house tidy, and Carla and Adrian answered all our questions. We had a plumbing issue with a water leak in one of the bathrooms which was resolved quickly and the owners could not have been more gracious making up for our inconvenience by providing a voucher for one of our dinners out. We loved the café next door (reasonable prices, good food) and Villa Deveena for a very special dinner was memorable. We loved cooking some of our own meals in the very nice house kitchen. Everything you would need for cooking is provided in the kitchen and our driver brought us to a grocery store so we could stock up on our way into Los Pargos. The only negatives are that you do not get fresh towels every day (if that's what you require) and the housekeeping comes a little early. Also, make sure to bring bug spray.....or lotion. It's buggy in Costa Rica. Hyrdocortisone, too! None of that dampened our spirits, though. The teak furniture and woodwork is so beautiful; you cannot go wrong staying here.
We enjoyed this beautiful house very much. All rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. Super cozy outside "living room". Pretty bathrooms with good showers attached to the bedrooms. The cleaning ladies that came each day were doing a great job, were super friendly and helpful. The landscape and pool was cleaned each day by happy ticos. The location was perfect for us, close to the beach but quiet area. Good restaurants close by. Great surfing:)
One of the most beautiful places in the world, both the location and the property
Turning 40 in Costa Rica
Where to start........La Choza exceeded my expectations!! Upon arrival, our concierge Adrian greeted us, assisted with our luggage and oriented us to the house and grounds! This was my second visit to the property of Hotel Playa Negra but my first staying in a house on the property. The grounds are maintained daily, so green and landscaped beautifully! You are only one home away from the beach front but can see the ocean from the second story deck! The house accomodations were superb! The rooms were comfortable, each with it's own air conditioning! The outdoor showers allow for starwatching at night! The saltwater, zero entry pool in the back yard was essential for afternoon hangout time when the sun is at it's peak and even has an outdoor restroom. A gas grill is by the pool for those who are lucky enough to bring home a fresh catch on their offshore fishing trip with Adrian! The kitchen is spacious and has everything you need! The kitchen tap water is filtered so no need to buy cumbersome plastic bottles, there is even a water cooler to chill and heat water! Access to the beach is very close by (no more than a 1-3 minute walk depending on how fast you walk) and the restaurant has breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, wine, beer and a killer view of the famous Playa Negra surf break! Don't miss out on the Argentinian style BBQ they host once a week, it's delicious! Be sure to visit the gelato shop when it's open- great afternoon treat!. As 20 min walk to town and there are even more options for shopping, restaurants and bars to choose from! If you aren't feeling social, have the house chef make you dinner like I did for our group of seven for my 40th Birthday! It was so affordable and super delicious! I guarantee you will make many wonderful memories at La Choza!
