Our week at this property ranks at the top of all vacation destinations. It was perfect for us...three generations...grandparents, children, and grandchildren. Great facilities, comfortable beds and a kitchen with everything. There was something to do for everyone and then some left for a return visit. Highlights included swimming in the lake, cooking hot dogs and roasting marshmallows on the beach, kayaking, picking vegetables in the garden, golfing at nearby course, ping pong and pool in the barn, rocking on the porch, and watching beautiful sunsets. A perfect place for biking and taking walks. The steam shower in the master bath was also a big hit! We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun vacation.
This was our fifth cousin reunion and definitely the BEST! First, the accommodations were very comfortable and cozy, yet spacious enough for 8 adults. The kitchen was well-stocked. Best of all was the landscaping and access to beautiful Lake Champlain! We couldn't begin to count all the fruits, vegies, herbs and flowers that are planted....when we arrived, the peonies were in full bloom and the rhubarb was ready to eat. It is truly lovely and relaxing. The lake is a minute walk through a grape arbor!
Kari was available to any questions. There is a maintenance worker on the Island available all the time. Oh, and let's not forget the steam shower (OMG).
We all hated to leave this little piece of paradise.
My husband, daughter, and I feel like this vacation home is our personal home away from home. We have had the pleasure of renting the farm house three years in a row for a week long vacation each year. Each year has truly been more magical than the prior year. Our daughter has visited at ages 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 years old, and she even remembers special moments from our prior visits.
The house is spacious, yet cozy. We look forward to soaking tub and the steam shower every year! The kitchen is great for cooking delicious farm fresh dinners together with music playing over of the bluetooth speakers and the cool evening air blowing through the house. The screened in porch is perfect for enjoying the breathtaking sunsets while enjoying a quiet dinner together after a long day of playing at the lake.
While we find it hard to leave the lake front or the porch swing on a beautiful summer day, we always squeeze in a hike at the Isle La Motte Preservation Trust and a outdoor mass at the St. Anne's Shrine. We also venture to Shelburne to take in a few brewery tours and the museum.
This house and Isle La Motte are two very well kept secrets - don't tell too many friends!
We have been renting cottages with our children and grandchildren each summer for the past nine years. Our stay at the farmhouse was everyone's favorite. The farmhouse is roomy and well maintained and the yard is expansive, so that even with three generations in the same house we each had our privacy. The porch swing, tire swing and screened in porch got plenty of use!
Though there is a lot to do in the area, we found ourselves spending most of our time on the island. We brought our bicycles and kayaks, so we biked and paddled daily. Though Lake Champlain is large it is relatively calm and there are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. We also played badminton, horseshoes, pool, ping pong and board games. We swam on warm days and enjoyed a fire on the beach on more than one evening.
The house was very well laid out and equipped. The mud/laundry room was handy as was the outdoor shower. The kitchen was easy to cook in and had a big refrigerator (no coolers needed) and lots of counter space. In short, the farmhouse had everything needed for a great vacation.
We spent a week with our adult children in this picturesque and comfortable farmhouse. The house and grounds were more spacious than I expected, complete with gardens, a tire swing and tall shade trees. Daily swimming in Lake Champlain provided blessed relief from the hot, humid weather. There were plenty of spaces to congregate, and also spaces to "get away from it all." We're a family of readers and photographers and were delighted to find lots of nooks and crannies - both inside and out - where we could curl up with a book or frame an artistic shot. There were lots of things to do in the area but we were perfectly content enjoying the place itself. The sunsets were even more spectacular than promised - every evening a masterpiece!
Our family spent a wonderful week in this unique and charming old farmhouse with modern amenities. LOVED the steam shower AND the tub. The house is very spacious with room to spread out. Beds are really comfortable. The kitchen accomodated all six 'cooks' at once and the screen porch was the nightly scene for lingering dinners and conversation. The game room saw lots of action as I once again proved I am the spelling queen in the family :) It goes without saying that much of our time was spent at the private beach area and the dock. We pulled our boat rental from North Hero Marina right up for boarding and spent a wonderful day on the lake cruising around/fishing (had the bass for supper!) and swimming. Kayaking was fantastic as well. You must try the Ruthcliff Restaurant, a hidden gem with delicious food and a magnificent view. The grounds are spacious, the veggie garden fruitful and the ping pong and pool tables in the barn just great fun! Adirondack chairs in the front yard for reading and conversation made each day special. Many day trips to take depending on your interests., all within reasonable distance. My family hadn't been together in 10 years and we could not have found a better place to spend this time together. I highly recommend this wonderful place for any type of family gathering. Thank you to the owners for opening their lovely home to us. We will see you again!
We had a lovely week - the gardens & beach offered lots of opportunities for relaxing - had lots of fun playing pool & darts in the barn - saw some fabulous sunsets over the lake and the odd dramatic thunderstorms - had some lovely bbqs and the house had all the facilities you could wish for - we all loved sitting in the outdoors rocking chairs and swing under the shed porch pretending to be "The Walton Family"!! -we would all definitely recommend this
Peaceful and quiet, Isle La Motte offers a true getaway, yet close enough to Montreal and Burlington to enjoy the city life too! The local General Stores and farmers markets can provide you with all the necessities for your stay and offer that good old fashioned country feel.
