About Olivia Chapman

We live in rural Vermont with our three beautiful children, but also have a real sense of place and connection with Nice. Scott is the sole-proprietor of a modest home building and remodeling company; Olivia is an artist, recently having gone back to work after ten years at home raising the kids...

Olivia Chapman purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Olivia Chapman chose Nice

This vintage 1920s apartment has been in my family for fifty years, and has been owned by my parents, grandparents, most recently my uncle and as of the summer 2009, it is now ours. We use this enchanting apartment when we can, and share it with our French relatives from time to time. We welcome your impressions, thoughts and ideas...

What makes this apartment unique

Outstanding views, location, and quiet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We really enjoyed our stay @ the apartment in Nice. The view is spectacular -- the sunset, the boats, the helicopter shuttles to Monaco, the fireworks from Cannes. The location was great for exploring Nice and very easy access by bus to Monaco. With the extreme hot weather, we mostly visited the beaches! We went "canyoning" with http://www.altitude06.com/ For an extra fee, the tour co offered a shuttle to/from the canyon which was well worth it to avoid having to rent a vehicle and drive through the area! The extra space in the apartment was perfect timing as we had caught a bug and needed some time to rest, relax and recover."

Pretty and well located, beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

It makes it so much easier to relax in a new place if you have a comfortable, beautiful place to stay in so you're not forcing yourself to go out to have a good time, and Olivia's apartment was just that. Watching the ferries go in and out, the sun rising and setting, all that makes it easy to do nothing, if that's what you want to do in Nice.

But if you do want to explore Nice, the apartment is in a pretty good location for it. It's easy to walk to the port area for breakfast or grocery shopping, and the beach and Promenade and Old Town are a pleasant waterfront walk away too. They're not instant and super close, but the walk is nice. We went nearly every night to Fenocchio's for gelato. You catch the bus from the front of the building which will take you either to Place Garibaldi or in the other direction Villefranche-sur-Mer and Monaco.

The kitchen has everything you might need to cook (and we did nearly every night) without hassle, assuming you aren't planning on baking a three-foot wedding cake, and I'd say there's not an amenity missing throughout - TV, wifi, etc. Some might say A/C, but the sea breeze through the balcony doors solved that for us every time and gives you the atmosphere you came to the Cote d'Azur for. With the view from the balcony you wouldn't want to shut all the doors and windows when you're in anyway.

We rented a car for part of the trip (exploring the inland villages is a really cool way to get away from the beach crowds), and it was easy and stress free to park in the private streets around the building.

Olivia also goes above and beyond to get to know her guests and introduce the place, giving the flat a personal connection that we enjoyed, and we had a good amount of information by email before we came and indeed many travel books and maps in the apartment itself to help us with planning. Lauretta, who let us in when we arrived, was communicative and helpful as well, so everything went smoothly.

With the disaster Nice has just endured (just after our visit) I am sure the city and its people will bounce back and I for one want to visit again soon.

Great place,location & views

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was beautiful, well equipped kitchen, and a great elevator.

The balcony was unreal! Spent a lot of time there, the view of the Med,watching the Corsica ferry come and go, and boats from little dingys to 3 masted schooners , or watch the planes come and go,and being glad it's not your time to go.

The sunsets over the low Alps aren't bad either.

The 100 bus to Monaco is just outside the door, but be aware during F1 race week not all stops are used, but an easy adjustment.

Shops and restaurants are close, and fun to visit and browse.

Thank you Olivia for a wonderful place to stay!

Perfect flat in a perfect location with a beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently returned from spending a month in this lovely flat in Nice and have already decided to return next year. The pictures of the flat are completely accurate but do not begin to describe the quality of the building, the view, or the fact that it feels like a home, and a very well equipped home. Everything works well, there are lots of linens, a comfortable bed, a fully equipped kitchen and anything else you may need. Both Olivia, the owner, and Lauretta the manager in Nice, are very responsive in answering any questions or concerns. So the flat is wonderful and then there is Nice, a city that we found to be a perfect size for exploring and in a drop dead gorgeous location. The front porch of the city is the amazingly blue and green Mediterranean, the pebbly beach and the wide boardwalk that circles the bay for several kilometers. In the middle of Nice is a green swath, a large park, with benches, children's play equipment and fountains. There is an old , Italian section with shops and restaurants, many pedestrian shopping streets, beautiful old buildings , and trees and flowers everywhere. And busses will take you inexpensively to all sorts of towns along the riviera and to hill towns as well. You will eat mostly Italian oriented food in restaurants and be able to buy really fresh produce to cook at home, should you choose to. And there is gelato. Lots of gelato. The flat is situated overlooking the port and when you get tired from exploring, the deck is there and you can watch ferry boats coming and going to Corsica and Sardinia. If we could give this VRBO rental ten stars we would. It's the best! Thank you Olivia and Lauretta.

Best apartment in Nice!

  • 5 of 5

We think this is the best vacation rental in Nice and have returned now for the fifth year in a row! We have stayed in many towns along the French Mediterranean coast, and have come to the conclusion that Nice is the best location because of its ambience, choice of restaurants, excellent concerts and museums, and easy transportation access.

The apartment itself has an outstanding view which is even better enjoyed from the balcony in the sunny afternoon, overlooking the sea. The apartment is charming, bright and airy and is quiet. These are attributes difficult to find in a Nice vacation rental. The kitchen is well equiped if you wish to make a meal yourself. We often visit the local markets and savour the wonderful quality of French ingredients in our meals. The bedroom has a comfortable bed and the bathroom functions well. The living room is very comfortable, and overall the apartment is very charming with many artistic touches. The location couldn't be better, with a bus stop conveniently located right outside the building if you want to explore other areas on the Cote d'Azur. If you want to get away from the hustle bustle of the city, the Park of Mount Boron is directly above the apartment, for quiet walks and beautiful views.

Highly recommended!

Return Visit

  • 5 of 5

We spent eight weeks in this wonderful apartment a year ago and loved it so much that we returned for eight weeks again this year. We feel so much at home and appreciate the charm of the place and the views as well. There was a new floor on the terrace this year as well. We are returning again next year for another stay. It's our favorite apartment of our travels and we travel often.

Olivia, the owner, is always wonderful to work with and we appreciated that there was now a DVD player that Olivia and son had got connected before our arrival.

There is a new manager as of December named Lauretta and she is wonderful. We wanted to take advantage of French subtitles for hearing impaired on French broadcasts as we can read French but couldn't get it to work. Lauretta went immediately to Orange and solved the problem...We were so pleased with this...Also on another occasion she came quickly to solve the problem.

We are enamored with Nice. It has so much to offer as does the area. We explore the perched villages in the mountains both above and east of Nice and in Italy which is not far away...And the location of the apartment is a real bonus for accessing everything. And after a day exploring or enjoying the sea and city, It's always good to come back to this comfortable charming place that really feels like home.

Thanks, Olivia, for making it available and for being so pleasant to work with…We look forward to our next stay.

A Week with a View

  • 5 of 5

We spent a delightful week in this apartment. We arrived after several weeks of visiting Paris and cities in Provence. The apartment was like coming home, affording us some down time as well as a convenient base for exploring the city and region. Even on the day we were kept indoors by illness we basked in the warm comforts of the apartment.

Be sure to bring your French dictionary (if needed) and try out some Verlaine or Balzac in the delightful library that includes works purchased in the early twentieth century as well as modern authors, French and English.

The old town and day trips to magical Eze Village and Villefranche sur Mer were favourites of ours, We looked forward each evening to dinner at the old port which was only a ten minute walk away.

We could have easily stayed another week but grandchildren were calling us home.

Our apartment is located just below beautiful Mont Boron, known as the “Hollywood” of Nice. The Club Nautique's public beach right next to the Plongee Aigle Nautique (diving platform) is an intimate, uncrowded bathing spot, within a short walking distance. In the opposite direction, just beyond 'La Réserve de Nice' restaurant, lovely public cliff beaches can be found.

Shop on foot for kitchen staples at a neighboring supermarché or select your petit déjeuner of croissant and baguette from several local boulangeries. A brief stroll to the Port offers lots of dining choices. Or just wander by the harbor’s edge and enjoy the exotic yachts and colorful classic Niçoise fishing boats.

Place Girabaldi, 'Vieille Ville' (old town), Place Masséna, Nice’s Cours Selaya Flower Market, and Colline du Chateau (Castle Hill), as well as the Promenade des Anglais, to name a few popular spots, are also all within walking distance, some shorter, some longer. Local public transport is both an easily accessible and affordable option.
