Steve Metzke purchased this house in 1994
St Teresa is where my family spent the summers. I grew up on St Teresa beach and it has not changed in 50 years. This is NOT LIKE PC, DESTIN or St George Island type area or water!! It is Exclusive and Private. Wooded.Trees, Private Beach, no noise, no lights and a sky full of stars at night. Enjoy the area for the Natural Beauty surrounding you. You will be in a very wooded area with Nature all around you. Enjoy it. This is the last of it Florida has to offer.
The forest goes down to the water. We have animals and birds. The fishing is GREAT from shore or our nearby dock. Great local restaurants just 10 minutes in all directions. Excellent golf club and grill just 6 minutes from the house. WE ARE DOG FRIENDLY!
Our family loved staying at the Lazy Dolphin. The beach was perfect, so quiet and peaceful. My husband and sons loved fishing off the beach and dock. The house is exactly as described and extremely clean. It's the perfect getaway spot if your trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
If you are looking for a truly secluded, private beach house then this is the place you are looking for! This home is well appointed and has everything you will need to make your stay enjoyable. The bedroom upstairs is large and airy with a balcony to enjoy your morning coffee. Love the steps outside that go to the balcony which made it easy for our dog that is going blind to get upstairs at night. We literally saw less than 10 people on the beach the entire week. The walkway to the beach platform is safe and convenient as well as the little bridge that takes you to the gorgeous beach with miles of white sand. You can pick up equipment at Crums In Panecea to go crabbing in the little lagoon, which is hours of relaxing fun. If you are interested in fishing, Crums can set you up for that as well including a chart of the high and low tide times. We enjoyed walking the flats at low tide and gathering shells as well as fishing from the beach at high tide. My husband caught a Hammerhead right off the beach as well as a Red Drum. We didn't eat out but Steve can provide information on local, nearby restaurants as well as the other touristy things to do in the area. We have taken a few vacations to beaches and this was by far the most relaxing place we have ever found. We will definitely return and recommend this little slice of Heaven to anyone we meet looking for a quiet, relaxing place to unwind and regroup! Thanks Steve and Nancy!
If you're looking for a private, dog friendly vacation spot, this is it! Very easy to locate, GPS works everywhere. It is a very "old Florida" area, very natural and private. We had the beach to ourselves and our dog (Doberman Pinscher) loved it, could run and play all day, forget about the leash! The yard even has "WHITE SQUIRRELS" he could chase! House has everything you need, has a nice porch you can sit out and see the ocean, which is a very short walk to. We saw sunrises, and dolphins, in the morning and beautiful sunsets in the evenings. If you're looking for entertainment, shopping outlet malls, miles of traffic to chain food restaurants, DON'T GO HERE! 15 minutes in either direction are great local places, especially fresh catch seafood, small groceries like IGA or Piggly Wiggly, the very basics. This is NOT a place I would bring children who need to be entertained or teens looking for excitement. The house is very comfortable and exactly as described, has everything you need. One word of caution, the bedrooms are upstairs so if you bring an older dog who can't do stairs of if you can't do stairs, you'll have to sleep on the couch downstairs. My dog would no go up the inside spiral staircase, so we had to go outside each night and go up the outdoor stairs to the deck and into the bedroom. It is a short drive to St. George where my husband rented a bike, and there are lots of bike trails to ride. Also a short drive to Apalachicola, which is worth the drive for great restaurants and shops and museums. Owners are super nice and helpful and always available, we look forward to returning to this rental.
We have been coming down to Florida for 25 years and this is the most quiet location we have ever visited, sometimes we were the only ones on the beautiful white sandy beaches. The beauty of the pine forest, trees right down to the beach, and soft gentle waves has not been our previous Florida experience. My wife was stunned (pleasantly) at seeing all the multicolored butterflies about the trees and lawn. She was able to work on short stories while sitting on the beach---without any interruption.
The nearby restaurants in Carrabelle were "regular places" where in time everyone would know your name. Nothing seemed overpriced.
This house provides a whole lot of space, and has a dedicated parking area for the renter. The spiral staircase could be difficult for an older person, but don't let that deter you-the outside stairs go directly to the same bedroom off of a deck showcasing a panorama to die for.
The kitchen range was brand new--and unlike some rentals we have experienced the washer, dryer, and dishwasher were all full sized.
The owners live close by and were pleasant and helpful.
Our many trips to Florida have always included the beautiful touristy beaches and condos right off the beach. We are nature lovers and camp frequently so when I came across this listing we wanted to try it. We loved the fact that it was secluded, had vegetation, and that you didn't have to travel to go fishing. This is the first time ocean fishing for my husband. A lot more exciting. You never know what you will catch. My husband did bring his kayak and was out fishing anytime he could. He caught many different kinds and we seen dolphins often. The water was warm the first couple days there due to the summer heat and water depth but it was awesome to see stingrays in their natural habitat. We seen a white squirrel on our last full day. The air conditioning did go out mid stay but Steve and his wife put us up in a local hotel while it was being repaired. Wakulla springs is a must see and their food was delicious, Probably my best meal on the trip. While we were there we created a Lazy Dolphin page on Facebook for people to check in and maybe added some pictures. We added a couple 😜. We definitely found our favorite Florida destination and will be returning. Thanks Steve for being so gracious!
Bears, alligators, bull sharks, sting rays, sand fleas, spiders, and yellow flies along with, noon-time low tide, hot tub temps in the water, pink slime on the sand, and an overabundance of seaweed both in the water and on the shore, where it laid, rotted, and stunk made for a most unpleasant couple of days. Our skin stung the entire time we were there. We could not get the stink out of our swimwear. The five miles of sugar sand beach was not ocean front, but rather cove or bay. The fantastic view was interrupted by trees growing from a marsh that was between the house and the beach, as well as the drapes that had to be kept closed in the upstairs bedroom since there was no insulation in the tongue and groove, cathedral ceilings. Three box fans had to be run at all times to circulate what little cool air came from the vents of the antiquated AC unit. In addition, some sort of flying ant or termite infiltrated the upstairs bathroom and our toiletries. There was no grilling-out or sitting on the balcony because the yellow flies would bite the fire out of you. There were no long walks on the beach at night, because there was not an inch of sand that wasn't covered with spiders or sand fleas. The waters edge was no retreat. It was lined with sting rays. In order to reach the viewing platform, we had to walk through the marsh. We had small dogs. We were told to keep them on short leashes because there might be small alligators in the marsh. There might also be bald eagles. We were told to be especially cautious at night, and not to leave any food or trash outside because of the black bears. We inquired about the kayaks, only to find that there was a min $50 fee to rent one , and if you went past the third sandbar, there were bull sharks that would come up underneath you. After seeing the condition of the kayaks and hearing about the sharks, we changed our minds. In addition, the refrigerator and the washer were both on their last legs. A repair man had to be called to work on the refrigerator. We had to be careful not to overload the washer or it would flood. We were expected to wash all of the sofa covers before we left, as well as any linens, after paying a cleaning fee. We left early, with no offer of compensation for our troubles. We were told that the no refund policy was an absolute, it did not matter that the property wasn't as advertised or that we were inconvenienced by the faulty equipment. FYI, there is no recourse through VRBO.
30 minutes from Wakulla Springs 'World Deepest Freshwater Springs' the Jungle Cuise is a must do, visit the Gulf Specimen Aquarium, and you are just 30 minutes from historic Apalachicola, and St Marks wildlife refuge, Shelling on the beach and on nearby St George Island State Park. Great area for Parks with outstanding Facilities. St. Marks Wild Life Refuge, Wakulla Springs State Park, Cape San Blas State Park, Fort San Marcos, Bald Point State Park...Inquire for details.
