WHAT IS SAINT TERESA? ....... St Teresa is only 5 miles of quiet, exclusive, secluded second family homes. A true 'Eco-vacation' at the Lazy Dolphin ....our cottage is located on Florida's 'Forgotten Coast' where the forest meets the beautiful Gulf water. Far from traffic and city lights Saint Teresa Beach is like Florida was 100 years ago.

PLEASE read entire property description.

You will be in the forest with miles of private beach at your front door. Great fishing right off the beach and a dozen local restaurants nearby. Welcome to 'Old St Teresa' with over 100 years of family enjoyment and history. You will be in the deep woods of North Florida about fifteen minutes from Public facilities.

Enjoy walking on miles of wide sugar white beach with two docks, usually all by yourself. Watch eagles and otters and other critters. We have many nature parks nearby, and many bike trails. Fresh seafood and, yes, there is a golf course ( only 10 minutes away). St Teresa has 130 years of history. A beach community nestled deep in the National Forest. It is only available to owners and their guests/renters. The St Teresa homes are passed from father to son. An exclusive private community with only eight beach rentals in the entire 5 mile length of beach. (We are directly on 5 miles of very wide continuous beach... you do not walk down a road or drive to the beach). Each home/lot has a minimum 1.25 acres and some are over 2-3 acres. We are unique in this area of Florida. We have a history, miles of beach, you may not see a soul your entire stay. We have modern well managed homes with every comfort. This is not a rental area, you have a family's home at St. Teresa.

Exclusive and Private Property. Our home is a two story 1600 sq ft beach house with two kitchen areas, located on the beach with central AC/Heat, extra in room AC unit bedside upstairs, ceiling fans in all rooms, on the gulf, fully furnished. Property has a large grass yard in front, Beach Deck Platform out at the sand dunes. We are 150 feet from the waterline.

First floor features full large kitchen, microwave, range/oven and refrigerator, The downstairs Living area has a 42' Flat Screen Hi-Def big screen, VHS, DVD, with Premium HD satellite TV channels and FREE WiFi Internet. Full Bath downstairs. Wood Burning Fireplace. And two sleeper (Full) Futon sofas, a Recliner with SPIRAL Staircase to second floor. Out side we also have wide wood stairs to second floor also.

Second floor is a huge master suite with queen bed and awesome view of the gulf through a whole wall of slider glass doors. Master Suite also features a counter with sink, toaster, toaster oven, and micro fridge with freezer. Great for early breakfast or late snack without going downstairs! Upstairs fireplace next to bed. 32' flat screen TV with HD SAT TV with DVD. Laundry area upstairs with full size washer and dryer. Full Bath upstairs. Second smaller bedroom upstairs features Trundle bed that will sleep one or two. Ceiling Fans on both floors and a portable 15,000 BTU AC unit bedside in MBR. Extra sink in hallway to back bedroom.

Large grass yard, house is on the beach not a bay, on the Gulf, with one of the finest white sand beaches at St. Teresa . Outside hot/cold shower and covered front deck. Second floor has wrap around wood deck and wide wood side stairs to ground.

About the Area: St Teresa is a beach side community made up of private homes owned mostly by Tallahassee residents. Only a handful of people live here year-round so the beaches are not only private, restricted to homeowners, but also unpopulated most of the time. St Teresa is in the middle of a National forest area and the forest goes almost to the water. Our water is very shallow and we do not have large waves and undertow. Best for Fishing! Our wide white sand beach stretches for miles. We are about 15 minutes (north-west-east) from small communities that have fine dining (casual). PLEASE bring extra beach TOWELS, and EXPENDIBLES (TP, Paper Towels, Soaps, etc.). All utensils. coffee makers, blender, toaster ovens and microwave and linens are furnished. Google map us at 3974 St Teresa Ave, St Teresa , FL 32358

People who have enjoyed our home over the years come to walk on the secluded beach, enjoy nature all around, and a fresh seafood meal. Enjoy what Florida was like 100 years ago. St. Teresa. There is nothing like it anymore.

Why Steve Metzke chose Florida

This is NOT LIKE PC, DESTIN.... this is a well appointed beach cottage deep in the woods. St. Teresa is where my family spent the summers. I grew up on St Teresa beach and it has not changed in 60 years. We have shallow water and very small waves. We have a reef out front protecting us. Good fishing off beach or pier. It is Exclusive and Private. Wooded.Trees, Private Beach, no lights and a sky full of stars at night. Watch wildlife, empty beach, wind through pines, relax and unplug. Put our beach chair in the shallow water and take a nap. Enjoy the area for the Natural Beauty surrounding you. You will be in a very secluded very wooded area with Nature all around you. Enjoy it. This is the last of it Florida has to offer. Please do your homework and read about this area. We are not like the western panhandle. We are called the "Forgotten Coast" for a reason. Google that! I urge future guests to read and study our property description and ask questions if you have elderly/handicapped/disabled persons. My number is posted and any special needs must be addressed before you arrive. St Teresa is special. Our main plus is seclusion and nature and great seafood. We have Wi-Fi and Premium TV....but you can get that at home. You have to decide if St Teresa is the right fit for you. Hundreds of guests have taken fine memories with them. It is the last bit of natural unspoiled coastal Florida. It is an eco-adventure.

What makes this house unique

The forest goes down to the water. We have animals and birds. The fishing is GREAT from shore or our nearby dock. Great local restaurants just 10 minutes in all directions. Excellent golf club and grill just 6 minutes from the house. WE ARE DOG FRIENDLY!

Secluded, soft sand, nice beach house ...

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great stay at this house. The beach was so quiet. There were so few people around, especially during the week. The water was pretty clear and the beach was great for walking along. The house worked well for us and is dog friendly (no carpets, thankfully, so it is easy to just sweep away the sand). The futons in the living room and the bed in the main bedroom were comfortable, showers in bathrooms worked just fine, and the kitchen is well equipped. The outdoor shower was good for washing off sandy feet after visits to the beach. The house is in an ideal location for taking day trips. Lots of places to visit within an hour or so in all directions: Tallahassee, St. George Island, St Marks Wildlife Refuge, Apalachicola ... The list goes on. We had such a fantastic stay here and it was so difficult to say good-bye!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking a moment to review us. Since you left the fishing has picked up. Our current guest almost lost his rod last night. The beach is so improved since the hurricane last fall. You got to see the new look! Safe travels, Steve Nancy and Sammy the Lab.

Cozy, quiet, clean & convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the absolute best time at the Lazy Dolphin. The A/C works great which is a major plus for us after all day at the beach and we all slept comfortably. I enjoy cooking on vacation and there was a sharp knife in the kitchen! This seems like a small thing, but for someone who chops lots of veggies a good knife is a must! Our hosts were very kind and welcomed us to their property graciously. During our 7 days we only left once for the bait shop and once to go shelling at Alligator Point. This was an amazing, relaxing, fun & stress free vacation!

Peaceful

  • 4 of 5

If you want luxury this is not your beach house. If you want convenience this is not your beach house. But if you want a peaceful vacation and the beach to yourself, you've found the right place. Water is calm and shallow. Lots of wildlife. Great for kids. Layout of the home works well for a couple or close family but the sleeping arrangements don't allow much privacy. Food at Posey's is good but the building needs a good cleaning. Angelo's was great. Grocery stores are at least 30 minutes away. This is where to come to get away. We'll be back. Be sure to bring insect repellant. Biting flies in the yard but not on the beach.

Owner's Response: St Teresa is located in the middle of nowhere. An area like Florida was 100 years ago. Wal-Mart is 30 minutes away and Super IGA is 15 minutes away. St Teresa is not like Destin nor are we like a Hampton Inn. You have a modern, well appointed cottage in the forest ON THE BEACH. It is private, it is secluded. Prime SAT TV and Wireless Internet. As Cathy Lee said we have good food in several places. All our restaurants are local, family run..no chains nearby. IF you want to unplug, we can do that for you here at St Teresa. See you next year Cathy Lee. Steve, Nancy, and Sammy.

Eat, fish, swim, kayak, eat, nap, swim, kayak, fish, eat ... repeat for 7 days.

House was great for my family of 5 (with 3 teenage daughters). Downstairs bath needs a new shower head but that is our only complaint. Was leery of the beach with all the grass it looked nasty - but it was really no issue at all!! Not like seaweed that wraps around and sticks to you. House felt like home. Comfortable and safe. First time I have not been ready to go home at the end of our stay. Would love to come back and stay 2 weeks!! Thank you to Steve and Nancy for being such great hosts.

nightmare in paradise

  • 1 of 5

When arriving to our vacation rental, we were extremely disappointed with the accommodations. The 2 bedroom was up a metal spiral staircase with smooth finish & big gaps between steps. Anyone with small children or dogs could fall & hurt or kill themselves. We went upstairs to find a huge bedroom with another bedroom the size of a closet. The only way we could bring the dog upstairs was to go to the stairs outside. We chose to block off the stairs & sleep on the futons. The dated futons were extremely uncomfortable, You could feel the metal springs on your back.

We killed 3 roaches in the kitchen and 1 in the bathroom. The toilet handle would not work every few flushes. The plastic connection to the flapper would fall off. We'ed have to take the cover off & stick our hand into the disgusting slime of the well water.

When we 1st arrived, I went to talk to Steve concerning a shower, I said we were not happy with the accommodations, he got irate, said he had his checkbook & would refund us &300.00 if we left immediately. We are seniors & on a budget. We were not going to take a 900.00 loss.

We usually pick houses in vacation areas, rather than hotels, because we like the privacy. Every place we've stayed in has offered us a 10 discount, if we'ed come back. Never have we been exposed to this .

Steve has said he offers a starter kit to his guests. Not true! Arriving after a long trip, we need to use the bathroom--no TP. This place is TERRIBLE!

He charged us 1/2 of our deposit---for no reason----except we complained.

Run from this place----it's horrible!

Owner's Response: This is a perfect example of a client not doing their homework and ending up with a bad rental experience. In my VRBO description I put several times, “read entire property description”, for a reason! The description states clearly, “…please bring expendables, i.e. TP, paper towels, soaps…”. She states there was no starter pack, well it is in Wal-Mart. You are supposed to stop and shop. This is the second time this year our spiral staircase has been an issue. It is mentioned prominently in the description and there are several pictures of it on the VRBO website. If you have a handicap, such as gross obesity or anything prohibiting climbing stairs. If you cannot navigate stairs, have a dog with dual hip replacements that can’t do the inside or outside stairs, take notice, I’m not sure why that is my problem. The futon was broken upon our cleaning crew check. We give these close attention as they are sand magnets! Also, there are no springs in a futon, just foam and stuffing! Other issues to this horrible stay was there was Oksana complained, "no shower head just a pipe". It helps if you know how to turn it on. "It was too hot upstairs". I guess she did not see the 15,000 BTU portable AC unit bedside in the MBR, as mention in the description. Oksana, I wouldn’t say irate. I stopped you and brought out my checkbook as you produced a laundry list of things you didn’t like. It was obvious you were in the wrong place not to mention you had stayed three days already. I offered you my total balance minus cleaning and sales tax. Your VRBO fee and deposit would be refunded. So, let’s put things in perspective. After working with VRBO for 8 years, hundreds of rental clients, many repeats, I have seen a lot. When people are this unhappy there is a reason. Oksana do your homework before renting. Look at the pictures, call and ask question if your dog and husband are unable to do stairs. A few minutes of studying the owner’s description, will give you a better rental experience.
