Opened for guests in 2010, HULILI FARM COTTAGE (pronounced who-lee-lee) has a 'SWEEPING, UNSPOILED, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY VIEW' in every direction! The sun and moon rise over the ocean as you watch the wonders unfold from your comfy rocking chair OR swinging bed on the lanai. Birdsong is the beautiful sound track on this private farm located at the end of a dead end country road and you will be the only guests. Relax as you walk through the orchards and please, sample the fruit...that's when it is best!
The COTTAGE is bright, clean, and furnished with all you will need. The 'BAMBOO SLEEPING CHAMBER' offers a KING size 'sleep number' bed with dual controls for firmness. A FULL size futon is inside, and outside on the LANAI is the QUEEN size 'HANGING BED'. (This bed has become a favorite with our guests, who sleep, nap, read and talk while swaying in the breeze, taking in the beauty.) Walk-in shower and pedestal sink in the cottage bath. Private laundry room with all supplies is available for our guests and just steps away from the cottage.
A huge AVOCADO tree hugs the patio next to the lanai. We have named her, MS. CADDO. You may taste her fruits in season and almost always there will be a stalk of 'apple' bananas hanging from her branches. Bring some groceries and you are ready to settle in.
We encourage you to take the time to read our GUEST COMMENTS. They paint a true picture of their stay at Hulili Farm. Here is seclusion, peace and quiet on a tropical farm 'paradise'.
The ultimate guidebook: 'HAWAII, THE BIG ISLAND REVEALED' is in the cottage for your use while exploring and yes there is now WIFI in the cottage.

Todd and Madeleine Loewen are the new caretakers and cottage keepers here at Hulili.
A full time farm, Hulili grows tropical fruits called longan (lawn-gone) and lychee (lie-chee). There are appx. 8 acres in orchard. The remaining acreage holds house, barn, cottage and an enormous 'front yard'.
Madeleine Loewen purchased this cottage in 2015
We were delighted with the 'end of the road' location, and the undeveloped, unspoiled view of the ocean and surrounding country. The 500 foot elevation means better view and pleasant breezes. The land has a gentle slope toward the orchards and ocean. The surrounding land makes it seem as if we are on hundreds of acres.
There is the feeling of being the only people on the island. With such privacy and space, we enjoy outside living morning to night! Mornings on the lanai as you watch the sunrise over the Pacific are incredible, as are the evening sunset colors and moonrise. We have less rain than Hilo and enjoy tropical trade winds that keep us cooler in the summer than in town.
Beautiful awe-inspiring location and a short drive from all that the Big Island has to offer, make for a perfect vacation!
...thanks to Norm, Del now has a makeshift driving range complete with distance markers out in the horse pasture. It certainly isn't as pretty as yours, but due to the drought and grasshopper infestation, he can always find the golf balls and still avoid the rattlers!
Thanks for a wonderful stay.
This is a beautiful property with beautiful hosts. The views are spectacular and the tranquility is second to none. Nothing but the sound of some coqui frogs and birds. The cottage was immaculately clean and fully equipped. The king-sized sleep number bed was so comfortable and our daughter slept most nights on the outdoor queen bed. The farm is perfectly safe for the kids to run wild with no shoes and no worries while eating mouthfuls of longan berries! We had complete privacy and the fruit bowl on the lanai would magically refill with lemons and avocado's. Hulili farm is perfectly located to explore the east side of the Big Island which is a must see! I would wholeheartedly recommend Hulili farm to those who want to use it as a safe and peaceful base to see the un-touristy, real Hawaii. Mahalo Todd, Madeleine and family for a most wonderful stay.
What a wonderful place to stay, so nice and calm, with an avocado tree in front of the house and an outside bed where we slept to the sounds of the night...
Madeleine is a very nice host, we can only recommend this place!
We loved your cottage and hope to return for another stay. From the moment we drove in and were greeted by Ty the Dog, a nice loaf of banana bread on the kitchen table and that spectacular view, Hulili Farm Cottage was warm and welcoming. We ate breakfast on the lanai every morning and enjoyed the view, the breeze and the serenity. We also loved the suspended bed under the lanai, it is comfortable and invites you to take a nap--and we did! At night the sounds of a coqui frog and the evening breeze lulled us to sleep.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful place, we definitely want to return during our next Hawaii vacation.
My husband and I loved our 5 night stay at Hulili Farm Cottage with the friendly personal touch provided by Todd and Madeleine. The cottage is secluded with a spectacular view. The unique hanging bed and rockers on the lanai were a delightful change from e typical hotel room. The roomy cottage was stocked with everything we needed plus many extras in the cupboards and refrigerator. They have family board games, DVDs and travel guides available for rainy days as well as free Wifi. Todd was very helpful in guiding us to the local places of interest as well as those special, little known spots not over run by tourists. We snorkled in crystal clear lava tide pools loaded with brightly colored coral and tropical fish. We sat in a lava tidal pool with seven huge sea turtles with only two other people nearby in over a two hour period! We were within a short drive to The Hilo Farmers Market, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Lava Tree State Park, Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls and Hot Springs. In addition to the incredible nature hikes, we enjoyed Madeleines fresh baked Banana bread with our coffe every morning along with fresh fruit from the farm. What a great affordable getaway with a personal touch! We highly recommend it if you are wanting to stay on the northeast side of the Big Island of Hawaii.
We loved our time here, even though it slipped by entirely too quickly. Madeline and Todd were the perfect hosts and were helpful to guide us to several sites. The cottage is perfectly appointed and had everything we needed to feel right at home. It's hard to pick our favorite thing, but the swinging bed on the lanai and the rocking chairs are certainly at the top. We loved the avocado tree right outside, too.
Thank you Todd and Madeline for making the trip so memorable and relaxing. We hope to be able to come back and stay with you again! ~ Mike and Tamra Langley
The Hulili Farm Cottage was a great place to stay while we explored the Eastern side of the island. Madeleine and family are wonderful hosts!
We ended up spending more time there than we initially intended because it was so relaxing to sit on the lanai and watch the sun rise each morning. We also enjoyed the tour of the orchard and learning about the interesting fruits. We miss it already and the fresh avocados too!
