|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Opened for guests in 2010, HULILI FARM COTTAGE (pronounced who-lee-lee) has a 'SWEEPING, UNSPOILED, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY VIEW' in every direction! The sun and moon rise over the ocean as you watch the wonders unfold from your comfy rocking chair OR swinging bed on the lanai. Birdsong is the beautiful sound track on this private farm located at the end of a dead end country road and you will be the only guests. Relax as you walk through the orchards and please, sample the fruit...that's when it is best!
The COTTAGE is bright, clean, and furnished with all you will need. The 'BAMBOO SLEEPING CHAMBER' offers a KING size 'sleep number' bed with dual controls for firmness. A FULL size futon is inside, and outside on the LANAI is the QUEEN size 'HANGING BED'. (This bed has become a favorite with our guests, who sleep, nap, read and talk while swaying in the breeze, taking in the beauty.) Walk-in shower and pedestal sink in the cottage bath. Private laundry room with all supplies is available for our guests and just steps away from the cottage.
A huge AVOCADO tree hugs the patio next to the lanai. We have named her, MS. CADDO. You may taste her fruits in season and almost always there will be a stalk of 'apple' bananas hanging from her branches. Bring some groceries and you are ready to settle in.
We encourage you to take the time to read our GUEST COMMENTS. They paint a true picture of their stay at Hulili Farm. Here is seclusion, peace and quiet on a tropical farm 'paradise'.
The ultimate guidebook: 'HAWAII, THE BIG ISLAND REVEALED' is in the cottage for your use while exploring and yes there is now WIFI in the cottage.

Todd and Madeleine Loewen are the new caretakers and cottage keepers here at Hulili.
A full time farm, Hulili grows tropical fruits called longan (lawn-gone) and lychee (lie-chee). There are appx. 8 acres in orchard. The remaining acreage holds house, barn, cottage and an enormous 'front yard'.
Madeleine Loewen purchased this cottage in 2015
We were delighted with the 'end of the road' location, and the undeveloped, unspoiled view of the ocean and surrounding country. The 500 foot elevation means better view and pleasant breezes. The land has a gentle slope toward the orchards and ocean. The surrounding land makes it seem as if we are on hundreds of acres.
There is the feeling of being the only people on the island. With such privacy and space, we enjoy outside living morning to night! Mornings on the lanai as you watch the sunrise over the Pacific are incredible, as are the evening sunset colors and moonrise. We have less rain than Hilo and enjoy tropical trade winds that keep us cooler in the summer than in town.
Beautiful awe-inspiring location and a short drive from all that the Big Island has to offer, make for a perfect vacation!
...thanks to Norm, Del now has a makeshift driving range complete with distance markers out in the horse pasture. It certainly isn't as pretty as yours, but due to the drought and grasshopper infestation, he can always find the golf balls and still avoid the rattlers!
Thanks for a wonderful stay.
This is a beautiful property with beautiful hosts. The views are spectacular and the tranquility is second to none. Nothing but the sound of some coqui frogs and birds. The cottage was immaculately clean and fully equipped. The king-sized sleep number bed was so comfortable and our daughter slept most nights on the outdoor queen bed. The farm is perfectly safe for the kids to run wild with no shoes and no worries while eating mouthfuls of longan berries! We had complete privacy and the fruit bowl on the lanai would magically refill with lemons and avocado's. Hulili farm is perfectly located to explore the east side of the Big Island which is a must see! I would wholeheartedly recommend Hulili farm to those who want to use it as a safe and peaceful base to see the un-touristy, real Hawaii. Mahalo Todd, Madeleine and family for a most wonderful stay.
We enjoyed the Hulili farm so very much! Longan were being harvested and tasted yummy. Todd and Madeleine were wonderful and kind hosts. Todd provided much insight regarding things to do in the area around Hilo and Volcano National Park. The cottage was very clean with great amenities. The hanging bed was such a treasure and very cozy. There was lots of rain while we were there (10/26-10/30), but the sound was fabulous on the tin roof. The sleep number bed was a treat and worked well for us, surprisingly.
Our second stay at Hulili Farm Cottage was just as enjoyable as the first. Gracious hosts, comfortable beds, and a beautiful view. Loved having ripe bananas outside our door, longons to sample, and Madeleine's yummy apple banana bread. An enchanting place.
What a wonderful place! We so enjoyed our time at Hulili Farm and vacation cottage. The cottage was very clean and accommodating for the 3 of us , and we'd go back in a "heartbeat!" We can't say enough about the amazing view of the ocean in the distance, and the beautiful orchard and green grass. Our hosts provided a lovely tour of the farm, and provided us with fresh longan fruit that was being harvested while we were there, as well as bananas and avocados each day. ...... Beautiful farm and family to host us, yet with lots of privacy! We highly recommend it !
We had a wonderful stay at the Hulili Farm Cottage and can not wait to go back. We found it very clean and spacious with 3 beds to sleep up to 6. There was plenty of hot water in the kitchen and bathroom. The view of the ocean and orchard is breathtaking. The hosts are very generous, providing tours of the farm, and samples of their delicious fruit, as well as, the privacy we desired. The property is conveniently located close to Hilo's beautiful waterfalls and beaches. We were also able to enjoy day trips to the northern, southern and western sides of the island with just about an hour drive. We highly recommend it!
One of our best trips. The place is clean, and has everything you need. The hosts are available but it still feels very private. We loved everything about our stay.
