Start with what Frommer’s Guide says are Sapphire Beach’s “Jawdropping Views”. And you won't get closer to the water than this listing unless you rent a boat.
Add the taste of two New York designers whose clients, past and present, include Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani. Vintage bamboo furniture with white upholstery, blue and white Chinese porcelains, white tile floors and a framed collection of 1940's black and white sailing photos. With the key component of total privacy from passersby or neighbors, and the luxury of enough space to allow you to catch some quiet moments completely to yourself.
A two level duplex with connecting mahogany staircase, each level with it's own terrace, floor to ceiling 14 foot wide walls of glass with unmatchable views with pure white curtains pulled to the sides. From inside the apartment, you will not see anything but turquoise and sapphire blue water - as if you are sailing on an ocean liner with your own balconies. The photos tell the story.
Downstairs, a comfortable living room with an optional sleeping couch and armchair, an outdoor dining table for up to 6, a desk and bureaus. Sliding mahogany doors can separate your kitchen area to create a second bedroom. A downstairs bathroom comes complete with two-sink vanity and shower. Generous baskets filled with luxurious beach towels.. Large new flatscreen cable tv with dvd, video and all channels. A Bose dock for your ipod.
Outside on the 11 X 14 foot terrace, banquettes and chaise lounges with total privacy. The downstairs terrace has a tropical mosquito net to allow sleeping outdoors in the moonlight if you wish to really live out your island fantasy. Outdoor breakfast/lunch tables for four. Oiled louvered tropical wood side walls add the luxury of Caribbean style. Constant cooling tradewind breezes.
Upstairs, the Master Suite at the top of the mahogany stairs is crowned with a 18 foot high cathedral ceiling. Hurricane lamps, white ceiling fan, vintage bamboo furniture, tropical wood doors, blue and white Chinese porcelains and upholstery, a black and white vintage sailing image gallery, and a huge king size bed to get lost in. Second flatscreen tv, dvd, video. Another wall of floor to ceiling glass with extraordinary views of the British Virgin Islands, St. John and the Cays, not to mention the turquoise and sapphire water of your imagination and the covers of travel magazines.
Each evening, open a great bottle of wine, tax free in the USVI, go out on the upstairs terrace to watch the sunset coloring the clouds and the moonrise over British Tortola. After dark, light the candles inside and on the terraces, turn off the lights, and sit listening to the waves below. Watch the lights glittering on the islands, the ferries going to and from Cruz Bay, the glow of the restaurants at Caneel Bay, a million stars above you. Bliss.
Everything that you could wish to do will be waiting for you each morning. Swimming on your half mile sugar white beach in turquoise water. Snorkeling on the reefs directly under your terraces. Sunning on your terrace chaises or by the magnificently sited fresh water pool. Reading in the shade of the palm trees. Wandering the docks of the marina looking at yachts and talking to the fishermen back with their day’s catch. My wife and I are both designers living in New York City. My family has had a home in St Thomas for over 50 years up on Crown Mountain in Caret Bay. Beverly and I fell in love with Sapphire during a visit to Saint Thomas, and took two years to locate and buy what we thought was the perfect condo. We have been renovating and improving it ever since. We can help you arrange airport pickups and drop-offs if you choose to do so. We also provide free snorkeling equipment.
Peter and Beverly Millard purchased this condo in 2006
We were stunned when we saw Sapphire Beach for the first time. Beverly and my daughter discovered that the 'hotel' was in fact condominiums. The search was on. We located the 4 ideal units we wanted to buy, and then waited until E-304 became available. Why did we do it? I was so tired of staying in the 'not best' rooms in hotels and resorts. I wanted to feel like I finally was staying in the Perfect Rooms with the Perfect View in The Most Beautiful Place. That is how our duplex feels to us and why we are always thrilled to return. No more envy and wishing. Just pure joy.
The two terraces hang literally 30 feet from the waters edge, so that you feel as if you are floating on a ship in the turquoise and sapphire sea. The duplex works wonderfully with two bathrooms, no sharing or waiting to shower. With two floors, there is privacy for you whenever you want it. You can find a place to read while your partner watches tv or sleeps in...perfect to really rest and recharge. The upstairs wood ceiling is 18' high and that feels like the real Old Caribbean to us. Space, height, and privacy are the true luxuries of your Caribbean Hideaway.
We have stayed in many different condos on Sapphire (the best beach in St. Thomas) because our son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren live there. We feel that we have now found a home away from home and will stay at this fabulous condo every trip.
There are wonderful design details, great colors and the view is amazing!
After much research we chose this condo based on the location and great reviews. We spent 8 nights at this wonderful home and had a great time! The condo is amazing with everything and more. We found it to be very clean and well stocked with items you don't pack in your suit case. One day we wanted to pack a lunch and everything we needed was there for our excursion. The view is to die for and after looking at the other buildings we were so happy we chose this condo and building E. It has the best view of them all. Peter and Beverly did a wonderful job providing tips and suggestions to make our stay even better than expected! There is no need to look any farther, just book your stay now!!!!!
So our arrival date was actually 8/10/2014.... I feel TERRIBLE! Looking into vacationing again we considered returning to St. Thomas and looked at this property and realized my review wasn't here! Okay onto the review.....
My husband and I spent 7 days in St. Thomas for our honeymoon. This place was just amazing. Peter and Beverly were incredibly helpful during the entire process. Interest, booking, arriving, while in St. Thomas, etc., etc. The condo is absolutely GORGEOUS! They have it decorated so beautifully and appropriately. Walking along the beach you can kind of see into other condos and they look NOTHING like this. Peter and Beverly really have a true gem here! The balconies are absolutely stunning on both levels. Our favorite thing to do was to go snorkeling (which they provide equipment) right in front of the condo then go take a nap on the balcony.... amazing. Smitty picked us up and returned us to the airport and he was great and so helpful! The whole experience was amazing and it was so awesome to come home every night to this beautiful property. We will DEFINITELY be returning back one day and to this property... Peter and Beverly are wonderful to work with.... they made our first HomeAway experience amazing!
My partner and I found the most beautiful spot to spend our Christmas Holiday away from the hustle and bustle of Northern Virginia: "New York Designer's Caribbean Hideaway". Thanks to Peter and Beverly we were able to unwind, enjoy the understated elegance of their pied-a-terre and spend time exploring all that the island of St. Thomas had to offer. Not to say that we ate our way across the island, but we did! Our favorite restaurant, Amalia Cafe and favorite bar, Duffy's Love Shack, seemed to beckon us back time and time again. While not out and about the island, we spent our time enjoying the comforts of the condo and the spectacular views from its decks. Especially awesome were the clear nighttime star-filled skies looking off towards the island of St. John's. This view was only heightened by the fact that it was the season of the full moon - to repeat myself, spectacular! Also, many of the sail boats moored adjacent to the condo building were festively decorated with Christmas lights. These, too, provided their own beauty to the night.
Not only did we enjoy exploring St. Thomas, but we also made good use of the beach just outside our front door and had many an evening stroll along the sandy shore while gazing at the star-filled sky. I would think that by now, the reader would understand that we couldn't have asked for any better place to spend our Christmas Holiday. Will we return ----- you betcha!!!
My husband and I had the good fortune to spend 4 weeks at Peter and Beverly's absolutely beautiful condo on Sapphire Beach. Our late evening arrival made it difficult to get a good look at our surroundings but upon opening the door to the condo we walked into the beautifully decorated condo that appears exactly as it does on the VRBO website.
The kitchen is fully stocked with every utensil and gadget you can think of, as well as dinnerware, glassware, pots and pans. We used the small George Foreman for steaks, burgers, hotdogs, chops, etc. We had most of our meals in house and with the full size frig it was easy to stock up for a week at a time. Baths were more than adequate as well - great water pressure and shower heads, and Redken hair products. Those may seem like silly comments but how many times have you stayed somewhere with a lousy shower?
The views from the two decks are simply indescribable. The water is gorgeous, you can see the marina and watch the boats move in and out; Shark Island, St. John, and many other islands are part of the landscape. We saw many weddings on the point as it is a beautiful venue for a memorable day. Building E is prime for views and privacy. We also preferred to be on the upper floors as it assured complete quiet (except for the sound of the surf) and privacy.
The condo itself is exactly what I would want if I were so fortunate to have a vacation home. The decorating is up to date and isn't a throwback to the 80's or 90's. In two words - tasteful and classy. Comfortable and relaxing as well. I just can't say enough.
We spent the day at St. John and would highly recommend. Enjoyed the ferry ride over and be sure and sit upstairs on the deck outside. Shopped at Havensight (okay) and had a manicure at The Four Seasons (beautiful grounds but not our style). Too foo-foo for us. The grounds at Sapphire are beautiful and natural to island life. Had dinner at Pesce's and Fish Tails. Great meal at Pesce's and the location at Fish Tails is great - you're right on the water.
We were blessed with perfect weather for all four weeks; high 83, lows 73-76; rained at night a few times. Breezy.
We hated to leave Sapphire and have been home for a week. We had such a wonderful time we are going back next year for another 4 weeks!
Peter and Beverly are so easy to work with and always available to assist with any question you might have.
We highly, highly recommend this property!!!
This is my second visit and second stay at this particular unit...knew i loved it there but fell even more in love this time around.
Just when you start getting settled and feel like an islander it's time to go home...one week is not long enough!
Thank you so much for sharing your place and your knowledge!! It's so appreciated how well you inform your guests on every aspect of their trip...I swear I must have pulled out that paperwork at least once a day either for a recommendation or a how to.
This unit is pristine! this is the true meaning of "staycation"....being on vacation and truly feeling like this is home. What a wonderful combination!
Sapphire is on the lively and popular East End of St Thomas. Home of dozens of restaurants, shops, the Ritz Carlton, Wyndham,Point Pleasant, and soon another Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville, plus the ferry jumping off point for St John and the British Virgin islands. Sapphire is one of the two most beautiful beaches on the island.
