Peniche lies on a peninsula. Almost the entire part of the peninsula is characterized by a high cliff. Only in the harbor area and at the northern end is it flat. At the westernmost point is the Cap Carvoeiro with a lighthouse. From there you can see the island group of Berlengas lying outside in the ocean very well. A path and steps lead from the coastal road to the cave Gruta da Furninha. South and north of the peninsula extend long sandy beaches that invite you to swim and surf. South is z. B. Supertubos, one of the most famous surf spots in Portugal. Towards the north, a fine sandy bay stretches over 5 km to Baleal. The peninsula can only be reached via a narrow, approximately 300-meter-long road, bordered on both sides by fantastic beaches. On the peninsula there are several cozy beach cafes and restaurants. Portugal has the best conditions for surfing in Europe and with its countless surf spots, it offers a lot of waves for every surfer. The beaches around Peniche are considered the best surfing area in Europe. The waves of the legendary Surfspots "Supertubos" and "Baleal" are ridden by surfers from all over the world. In the autumn of 2017, the "Rip Curl Pro Portugal" will take place here for the ninth time. In the meantime there are many surf schools and surf camps in the direct vicinity of Peniche.
