About Lisa

We love living in Renton and the Seattle area. Lots to see and to do. Meeting our guests that come from all over the country and world is pretty cool.

Lisa purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Lisa chose Puget Sound

We like old houses!! This one reminds us of the old house Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed moved into in 'Its A Wonderful Life'. Our stairway even has a loose ball cap finial on the newel post at the base of the stairway like the movie! Our house is old, but the Carriage House/Guest House/Cedar River Inn is new. We tried to make it look very original, with a slight modern flair. Hope you like it too.

What makes this cottage unique

Oh so convenient!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lisa was wonderfully welcoming. Answered all my questions before I confirmed the listing and then made sure I had clear directions before I arrived. She recommended great restaurants within walking distance (loved both the Afghan place and Red House). As a single woman traveling on business, I felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood, both on her residential street (a block from a river and long river walk) and the few short blocks into downtown Renton. The backyard cottage was exactly as described, really comfy. Strong wifi. Great relaxing backyard. And when I asked if there was a blender (breakfast smoothies), Lisa went out and bought one that same day (totally unnecessary! but much appreciated!) She also offered the perfect blend of helpful and let me do my own thing.

Just really comfortable, pleasant, well equipped, and easy. And loved having access to the backyard - total bonus.

Exactly what we wanted! Clean, Comfortable, Private, and Convenient.

  • 5 of 5

Tha Carriage house is very comfortable, clean and private. The location was convenient to walk to downtown Renton restaurants. Easy access to the highway and close to the airport. More importantly a more convenient option for us visiting family in Renton than staying In Seattle and driving back and forth as we had done previously.

Perfect for a get away, stay-cay or vacay!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter (16) and I needed some time away and this was perfect, exactly as advertised and then some. I had to talk her into it because our last VRBO experience in San Diego (too small, no parking, not as advertised) wasn't that great but this time she was greatly pleased. The Carriage House was small enough to be cozy but large enough to have our own space away from each other (again, daughter - 16). It was clean and cute and ready for us though we got in a little early. We were able to hit the theatre in Seattle, walk to dinner in downtown Renton, and stroll along the Cedar River. There were enough outlets for my daughter to charge up all her 'things'. The weather cooperated and we were able to catch some rays. We even had fun trying to leave notes for each other on the chalkboard wall without getting caught. Neither one of us wanted to cook very much but the kitchen was a very efficient place to store and reheat our leftovers and rustle up some breakfast.

The mattress was comfy (my back says Thank You), the bathroom luxurious and Oh, I loved having dedicated parking space off the street (not the hike I had in San Diego). My only negative was my daughter hogging the bathroom but she does that at home as well.

I've contemplated trying to "live small" and I would do it in a minute if the space could be as nice as the Carriage House but I don't think I could get an enclosed shower that big in a tiny house - too bad. I'm already looking at the calendar to see when we could squeeze in another visit.

Thank you Lisa for sharing your little oasis!! Hope to come back soon.

Small Vacation Residence

  • 1 of 5

The "cottage" was much smaller than described, with a shared living/cooking area (small refrigerator and two burner cook top) and small bathroom. The cottage was not ready when we arrived and we encountered a problem with the kitchen sink water supply before we left. However, the homeowner lived on the property and was able to address our issues when they were raised. Might be ideal rental for single person.

Owner's Response: Not sure where the guest stopped reading in the description. This is the first time anybody has complained. I could tell by the look on their faces when they arrived, something was not right. I said I would work with them if the space didn't suit them "they said it was fine". Since 2010 the space has been described as follows: Kitchen: Small kitchenette, Microwave Oven: Toaster convection oven. And a two-burner hot-plate, convection toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and sink, bar style refrigerator; 350 square foot suite. I would urge these folks, and all others to read full descriptions and ask questions. I'm the very first to say that the space is small. Other than my disappointment in the guests response that the space was smaller than described, the guests were perfect and great guests. Also, the previous guests, which were here for 3 months, managed to buy a cheap foam mattress, replacing my expensive mattress, as well as left the place a mess. I had to call in extra help to move the furniture and put things in order. So yes, the cottage wasn't ready when they arrived at three, but was ready at 3:30. As I said before, I offered to Yolanda to work out whatever they wanted but they said "no, fine". What more is a girl to do???

Charming Cedar River Carriage House

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly as advertised - it was clean, well appointed and charming. Lisa was friendly and accommodating - she made herself available but was never intrusive. The property is situated in a perfect location - walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants, cedar river walk and close to freeways. It was amazingly quiet and yet right in the heart of the city. The steam shower was fabulous! Our only complaint was that our trip was so full of family activities that we didn't get a chance to relax on the beautiful deck and enjoy the vegetation and peaceful surroundings. We would definitely recommend this property and will stay again if the opportunity presents itself!

Convenient locaton

  • 5 of 5

Our daughter lives in Renton, so we visit often. We usually stay with her, but the house is getting a little crowded with a new baby arriving in May. We found the Carriage House to be a great option. It was conveniently located, so we were close to the family, and very comfortable. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and people were very friendly. We didn't get a chance to try out any of the local restaurants, but there are plenty of choices. We will be staying again in the future.

Very Clean, Friendly hostess

  • 5 of 5

I love the layout of this place. It reminds me of a "tiny house". It was clean(very important for me), and the shower was extra large. There are several hooks on the wall to hang belongings. And, surprise! There is a chalk board wall which my daughter loved! Much better than staying at a hotel. Nice landscaping. Shared yard space with the owners, who work hard to meet the needs of guests. Located in the heart of Renton, in a nice old neighborhood.
