Custom-Built Log Home : Clean, Spacious, and only 4 miles from downtown Seward!

Bedrooms 4
Space 3,200 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This is a beautiful, custom-built log home located just outside of downtown Seward. The previous owners spent ten years building the house, and cut down and hand-peeled all the logs themselves. It's a true Alaskan work of art, and there's nothing else like it in the Seward area.

We purchased the home in 2007, and live in a small apartment over the detached garage on the property. So, we are around to help with local activities and information and make sure you get the most out of your vacation! We have two dogs that live with us and play in the yard, but are not allowed in the log home.

This house provides a very comfortable home-away-from home while you're traveling, with all the amenities. The full kitchen is there for your use, there are large common areas - a huge slate fireplace surrounded by leather couches, TV / VCR / DVD / High speed internet computer / Wi-Fi / Stereo, a grill and hot tub on the large front deck, a small covered back deck, etc. We now have a washer / dryer for guest use - all brand new in 2017! The house is modern and very clean, but cozy and comfortable. End your day relaxing in the hot tub or grilling out your fresh catch, while enjoying the view of Mt. Alice from the deck.

About Wendy Doughty

We've lived in Seward since 2002, and absolutely love the area and the people! We owned and operated Kayak Adventures Worldwide through the summer 2014 season, and during those years Bear Paw Lodge was run as a B & B. It was a great lodging option for our clients, and others traveling to the area. Now that we've transitioned away from running Kayak Adventures, we've turned our log home into a vacation rental.

One of our favorite parts of traveling is meeting all the wonderful people. By living on the property and running the lodge, we're able to bring that aspect of travel right to our own back yard! It's such a pleasure to meet the people who stay here, and to assist them in maximizing their time in Seward.

We love the outdoors... and whenever we're not working on projects around the house, you can find us hiking, biking, running, fishing, kayaking, or even strumming our instruments around a campfire. Life is good in Seward, and we hope to share that with you!!

Wendy Doughty purchased this house in 2007

Why Wendy Doughty chose Seward

We were both originally drawn to Seward for the kayaking and the lifestyle. Landing at Kayak Adventures in 2002, we quickly realized how much we loved sharing this backyard with others. That winter we purchased the business, and decided to make Seward our home. We lived in the tiny kayak shop for five summers... sharing the space with many guides, customers, dogs, etc. In 2007, we decided it was time to find our own space. And so we found this log home! It needed lots of work, but was well-built and spoke to us immediately. In June 2007, we moved in and began running it as a B & B.

What makes this house unique

Come stay at the lodge, and in an instant you'll know why we purchased this log home. The quality and beauty of construction, the feeling of warmth and home, the space and light, the deck and hot tub, the location... the list goes on and on. We knew this was the property for us the minute we walked through the door in 2007. We bought the house with the intention of sharing it with others, and it's truly perfect for traveling groups.

Perfect place - booked again already!

  • 5 of 5

What a stunning house and beautiful location. My father and uncle, both in their 70's and my cousins and friend from my home town rented the Bear Paw Lodge for 4 nights in July 2017. It was clean, had everything we needed, and the hosts were fantastic. The day we left Seward we set up fishing and staying here again in 2018. I run two rental homes with VRBO myself and I can tell you Wendy does it right. Absolutely no issues at all. Cant wait to get back to the Bear Paw next year!

One important note, three of the bedrooms are on ground level which was great because my uncle has trouble getting up stairs. The configuration of this house was perfect for him and my father who is also getting up there in years. Best place we have stayed in Seward and I have been going there 15+ years.

A Very Nice Log-House at Seward

  • 5 of 5

This neat 4-br log house fits us 4-couples very nicely.

The house is big. The rooms are clean; actually everywhere in the house are clean. The location is very convenient to tour attractions, only ten minutes easy drive to the harbor and Exit Glacier NP. The house is at a quiet street.

There are enough towels in every bath rooms. The kitchen is well equipped. The laundry room has a set of seemed brand-new washer/drier for guest use.

The owners are very nice and always responded to our questions in a timely manner.

We definitely recommend this house to anyone who want to stay at Seward area.

An awesome place - a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Bear Paw Lodge with 7 of my family members recently for 3 days and it is an awesome place. Very well organized. I liked the little notes here and there for instructions. The place is very spacious and every one enjoyed the great fire place in the living room. Wendy - the owner - was very helpful in pre-arrival as well. There is nothing bad to say about the place. If I go to Seward again with my family or friends, I definitely stay there :)

Seward's Gem !!!

  • 5 of 5

This is our fifth trip to Alaska and our second stay at Bear Paw Lodge - you read that right, our second stay!

We were here two weeks this year - with revolving family in and out. Once again we found the home to be comfortable, welcoming, well furnished and with a bonus, newly completed, well appreciated laundry room!

Wendy and Dave are warm and caring hosts, with a wealth of knowledge of local activities and adventures they are willing to share.

Seward remains our favorite place in Alaska and Bear Paw our favorite home away from home! :)

Amazing place!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful log cabin that was a pleasure to stay in. Had everything you would need and was so big. Not sure of the capacity, because we were only 4, but a huge number of people could stay there. Easy to find, not too far off a main road and near to town. I would highly recommend!

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 adults had the pleasure of staying in Bear Paw Lodge in September 2017 and our family absolutely loved it. Out of the three places we stayed while traveling on our Alaska holiday, Bear Paw Lodge was by far the best for hospitality and comfort. Thank you very much! :)
