This is a beautiful, custom-built log home located just outside of downtown Seward. The previous owners spent ten years building the house, and cut down and hand-peeled all the logs themselves. It's a true Alaskan work of art, and there's nothing else like it in the Seward area.
We purchased the home in 2007, and live in a small apartment over the detached garage on the property. So, we are around to help with local activities and information and make sure you get the most out of your vacation! We have two dogs that live with us and play in the yard, but are not allowed in the log home.
This house provides a very comfortable home-away-from home while you're traveling, with all the amenities. The full kitchen is there for your use, there are large common areas - a huge slate fireplace surrounded by leather couches, TV / VCR / DVD / High speed internet computer / Wi-Fi / Stereo, a grill and hot tub on the large front deck, a small covered back deck, etc. We now have a washer / dryer for guest use - all brand new in 2017! The house is modern and very clean, but cozy and comfortable. End your day relaxing in the hot tub or grilling out your fresh catch, while enjoying the view of Mt. Alice from the deck.

We've lived in Seward since 2002, and absolutely love the area and the people! We owned and operated Kayak Adventures Worldwide through the summer 2014 season, and during those years Bear Paw Lodge was run as a B & B. It was a great lodging option for our clients, and others traveling to the area. Now that we've transitioned away from running Kayak Adventures, we've turned our log home into a vacation rental.
One of our favorite parts of traveling is meeting all the wonderful people. By living on the property and running the lodge, we're able to bring that aspect of travel right to our own back yard! It's such a pleasure to meet the people who stay here, and to assist them in maximizing their time in Seward.
We love the outdoors... and whenever we're not working on projects around the house, you can find us hiking, biking, running, fishing, kayaking, or even strumming our instruments around a campfire. Life is good in Seward, and we hope to share that with you!!
Wendy Doughty purchased this house in 2007
We were both originally drawn to Seward for the kayaking and the lifestyle. Landing at Kayak Adventures in 2002, we quickly realized how much we loved sharing this backyard with others. That winter we purchased the business, and decided to make Seward our home. We lived in the tiny kayak shop for five summers... sharing the space with many guides, customers, dogs, etc. In 2007, we decided it was time to find our own space. And so we found this log home! It needed lots of work, but was well-built and spoke to us immediately. In June 2007, we moved in and began running it as a B & B.
Come stay at the lodge, and in an instant you'll know why we purchased this log home. The quality and beauty of construction, the feeling of warmth and home, the space and light, the deck and hot tub, the location... the list goes on and on. We knew this was the property for us the minute we walked through the door in 2007. We bought the house with the intention of sharing it with others, and it's truly perfect for traveling groups.
This was a wonderful place to stay for our party of 4 couples. The house was clean, kitchen large and we could visit with each other inside and outside. The owners were friendly and very helpful. We highly recommend that place.
What a wonderful place to stay! Chocolate chip cookies awaited us on the dining table. The location was perfect as well as the extra amenities were a nice touch. Wendy made everything simple and easy for us and was always prompt to answer any questions. I want to go back and stay longer!
This log home is Beautiful, the owners are incredible and I would recommend everyone stay here. We wanted to enjoy it longer but it was booked
This house was perfect for our family of eight! Everything from the location to the little extras such as shampoo, body wash, paper towels, toilet paper and fresh chocolate chip cookies puts this property at the very top of my list....and I've stayed at quite a few. I appreciate the extra details. The house is gorgeous, spacious yet cozy, clean, and had anything we could want and more!! Wendy made the rental process so easy and was available for any "tourist" questions we had. Hope to visit again.
Bear Paw Lodge...was undeniably the nicest cabin I have ever stayed in..This place exceeded what was advertised... Super clean and impressive as you walk in. This is a must see and stay.. Great job.. and thank you..AWESOME
Our Stay here was wonderful! The house is beautiful! The place is even more beautiful than the photos. Everything was so clean and well stocked. We had a group of eight and there was plenty of room for everyone. We stayed here for 6 days and everything was perfect. There were warm cookies at the house upon our arrival which was very thoughtful and enjoyable. I would definitely stay here again if I were in Seward, AK.
