My wife and I stayed at this property with our two children (ages 8 and 10) and another couple and their two children (ages 10 and 12). We had a wonderful time / experience and found the home to be spacious and comfortable.
Everything is exactly as advertised. The pictures, while fine, do not convey the full charm and warmth of the house. My wife and I slept well in the upstairs bedroom (comfy bed, slept like a baby) while the kids were in a room with bunk-beds. The other couple was in the downstairs room while their kids slept on the 2nd floor, in an additional bedroom. As John points out in his description, it was great to have sheets and towels at our disposal.
When staying in another persons home, I am always sensitive to the kitchen and the living area. Specifically, will it have the pots, pans and other utensils required for a good breakfast before skiing and will there be a comfy spot to sit apres-ski? Happy to report a resounding yes for both.
My secret aspiration is to open a diner, so I am a bit finicky about have the right gear. Thankfully, i was not disappointed. Founds all the pots, pans, etc, that were need for a combination of omelette, bacon, and excellent egg sandwiches for breakfast before we headed out to Killington (under 15 minutes away).
At the end of the day, we stopped at the General Store (three minutes from the house) to buy two six-packs of Long Trail (purchased "Stand Out" and "Sick Day", to commemorate an awesome ski day. My buddy and I sat by the fire, drinking our beers and relishing the perfect day, while the kids played elsewhere. Could have easily spent the night in that exact spot, had it not before for dinner plans at another location.
All in all, it was a great place and made for a great weekend. Touching on a few of the 'tips for writing reviews' section:
- As detailed above, the listing description was accurate regarding location, layout, amenities, etc.
- The property was very clean and well maintained. You can tell the owners pour a lot of love and attention into this house.
- Did the owner provide good customer service? John couldn't have been nicer. He was more than responsive to any question I had, even provided guidance on which runs my kids should take (it was their first time at Killington).
- Would I recommend this property to a friend on relative. Definitely yes.
A group of us stayed at the house recently during a ski-weekend to Killington. The house is close to Killington, has beautful views and great accomodations. The owners were also a pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend this house.
My family and I have stayed at this beautiful house two summers in a row and it is truly a slice of heaven! We absolutely LOVE it! We have small children and they also love the house itself and the field and creek out back. There's so much to do around Pittsfield, even in the summer months. The views are phenomenal, you can even see Killington mountain from the kitchen! I can't say enough great things about the property. It's always clean and completely ready for us. The design of the house is perfect for two large families, with quite a bit of room upstairs and on the bottom floor. The kitchen is great for cooking and the eating area is big enough to accommodate lots of people. We hope to continue visiting the area and plan to stay here again in the future. It's one of the most relaxing vacation rental properties I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy.
When we arrived on Friday night, exhausted from driving 5+ hours from NYC leading 2 other cars, my first impression was what a charming house under the dim light. Slowly unloading and walking towards the house passing a short "wooden bridge" and with the darkness surrounding the house, I felt like walking into a lake house. We have a party of 11 with varity ages (8 adults and 3 kids) and this house was perfect for us. The place was very clean with 5 bedrooms & 2 full baths, three levels with a well equiped kitchen and an incredible view.
The location of this house is about 10 minutes from Killington Ski Resort- Pico mountains which was the reason why I picked this place. On Saturday we had a great time at the mountain skiing/snowboarding and Sunday we left around 12:30pm trying to beat the blizzard which dumped roughly about 16 inches in NYC. I also wanted to mention that we appreciate very much that John(Owner) was very considerate and offered us to stay an additional day due to the blizzard conditions.
All-in-all this is a wonderful place to stay for our weekend and my family and I would love to come back in the future. No Doubt this is a great place to escape from the city life...I highly recommend this place!
I had the privaledge of renting this house in February of 2010. It was a mix of couples, singles and all from a variety of ages. What an escape this place was from the great days of skiing we had. The house is located 15 to 25 minutes away from Killington and Pico. The house was very clean and was everything you would want for a mountainside chalet. Everyone had a great time and were very impressed with the accommodations because looks can be very deceiving. The house looks small on the outside but it easily fit 9 of us comfortably. I highly recommend this place and will be making plans to go back in 2011. Owners were GREAT to work with in setting up the weekend.
This is a charming property located on the hillside on a quiet back road in Pittsfield, VT. The house comfortably sleeps 10, has a very nice gas fireplace area, a great deck and gas grill, and a well laid-out kitchen with a beautiful breakfast bar / work space. It's a very nice place to stay and has an incredible view! The house was exactly as described and clean and orderly upon arrival.
The owner John is a pleasure to work with. When looking for places, I talked to a number of different types of people: very sales-ey people, very distrustful to the point of insulting (we are a group in our 30s, not college kids!), and downright dishonest (one person rented his place right out from under us after telling us it was ours). John was always friendly, upfront, and easy to work with. He can be trusted.
The hill makes for great sledding and general snow frolicking and the house is an easy proximity to both Killington and Pico mountains, which of course, was the real reason for our stay. There is the Pittsfield General Store right at the end of the road and right across the street is a gas station/convenience store called Pitt Stop. Between the two, you can get most things you need--though a full grocery store will require heading to Rochester (about 10 miles away).
The only downside was that we were getting absolutely dumped on the weekend of our stay so most 2-wheel-drive cars couldn't make it up the dirt road the first night. Luckily, we had a Subaru (the VT state car) in our group and there is a parking lot at the bottom of the road for just this scenario. By the next morning, the sand trucks made it through and everyone else made it up. This downside quickly became an upside as we were skiing 2-3 feet of fresh pow the whole weekend!
I highly recommend a stay here, you won't regret it.
