2 Bedroom Cabin on Cayuga Lake 1 Mile from Ithaca

Bedrooms 2
Space 760 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Enjoy our two-bedroom rustic cabin just a few minutes from Cornell University and Ithaca College.

Surrounded by magnificent hemlock trees and nestled on the hillside above Lake Cayuga, the cabin also has a shale beachfront and dock with use of the kayaks, canoe, and boathouse.

You can focus on water sports or use the cabin as a base for exploring the spectacular scenery (the gorgeous gorges are just minutes away), wineries, restaurants, colleges, museums, Watkins Glenn activities and other treasures of the area.

Although you are only minutes from all that Ithaca has to offer (including Wegman's!), the cabin is a world apart: you feel as though you are in a treehouse--surrounded by hemlocks and rhododendren. A walk down the hillside brings you to the shale beachfront and access to Ithaca's most stunning asset: 40-mile long, 600+ feet deep, glacier-formed Lake Cayuga.

A big advantage of the cabin is its location on the lake but in Ithaca. Most Cayuga Lake cabins are 20-35 miles away from the Ithaca attractions.

We live in the large house on the property but your parking, entrance, beachfront, etc., are all private, we rarely cross paths with the folks in the cabin. We also rent the main house when we are out of town which can hold 8-10 guests.

About sally mennen

we are a retired couple who live in the main house which is down the hill but totally secluded from the cabin. The cabin has its own beach, parking, entry, deck, etc. and the amazing thing is that you are in the town of Ithaca but feel like you are in a forest on a lake. The beach is the only area where you are more likely to see a neighbor--but only if the neighbors are using their lakefront.

sally mennen purchased this cabin in 2008

Why sally mennen chose Cayuga Lake

The property is beautiful--mature trees as in an old growth forest-- but access to the lake is easier than on most of the properties along the west shore in Ithaca. And privacy is greater than in most of the west shore properties. The property has 1.4 acres with big trees and only 2 houses. Most other properties have 4-6 houses on the same size lot.

What makes this cabin unique

In addition to the natural beauty, we are SO close to all the advantages of Ithaca. No need to drive 20-40 minutes to get to shopping, restaurants, hiking trails, wineries, etc., as on other parts of the lake. Ithaca downtown is only 2 miles away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great Cabin! We made sure to hit the Farmer's market and local butcher and made a couple really nice dinners we enjoyed in the cabin--and it also was the perfect homebase for all the day trips we took (wineries, zip lining, the Falls, and everything we love about Ithaca).

we also enjoyed the kayak!

I'm glad we had a chance to meet you! thank you for being great hosts and checking in with us on those cold nights (great sleeping weather)!

All the best

Very Good! 4.2/5 -

2 Bedroom Cabin on Cayuga Lake 1 Mile from Ithaca
average rating of 4.2 based on 19 reviews

Wooded perch overlooking serene lake.

  • 4 of 5

The property met our specifications for a relaxing few days visiting Ithaca and the surrounding Finger Lakes region. The house, perched along a steep valley wall down from the main road and hidden in the trees and away from the owners house, offered the peaceful respite we were looking for. It was well appointed with needed amenities and offered its own access to the lake and dock. Our children enjoyed their morning swims in the lake, paddling the coastlines, and s'mores around the fire at night. The owners used technology effectively to be helpful and responsive while affording us privacy. The only drawback we had was noise from the morning commutes on the road up the hill, which simply reminded us we were on vacation each day.

We were stunned by the beauty of the gorges and the lakes. Though steep, the gorges were fairly accessible for our small children with some extra monitoring. We also enjoyed the Ithaca Farmers Market for provisions and a dinner during the week, the Corning Glass Museum, and New York ciders at the Finger Lakes Cider House in Trumansburg.

Beautiful cabin with own beach and dock

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the beautiful cabin on Cayuga Lake. The cabin was exactly what we expected and how it was described on the website. It was well maintained and had everything we needed. Sally provided great customer service and checked in with us to make sure we have everything we need. The cabin was very comfortable for three people and can easily fit four. We loved being surrounded by the trees with the lake glittering through the leaves. The beach and dock are very convenient and allow for a swim at any time of the day. We noticed that the lake doesn't have any public beaches. Thus, having your own lake access is a huge advantage! One night we went to the Hangar Theater which is less than 5 minutes from the cabin. We spent the days exploring the other lakes as well as Cornell University with Cornell Plantations and the Johnson Art Museum. What a nice way to be surrounded by nature but still having access to culture and entertainment. We will certainly recommend the cabin to friends and family and hope to be able to return one day.

The place was clean ! and nice ! we had everything we needed for sure .

  • 4 of 5

When I got to the cottage my partner asked " in one word tell me what you think " I said "it's fine " . we all had a great time on the lake . I was disappointed that we couldn't actually SEE the lake , there is a big house in front of the cottage (maybe we will rent that next time ) . so we would get our coffee and walk the long trail down to the dock so we could enjoy the lake in the morning . The biggest obstacle we had was that the stairs did not have a railing ! so we were not able to have the parties that we were planning . My daughter actually fell after it rained because the stairs were slippery . The weeds in the lake were also a huge issue for the location but we all managed .

I can't remember if the description of the cottage said that there was not a view of the lake but that was basically why we wanted to rent a cottage on the lake , to see the lake ...

This is not to say that the place was fun and clean and nice !!

Property was clean, lots of stairs but was furnished with everything possibly need. Only thing could use ant spray I noticed didnt have any Im sure ants from the woods. It would be nice to have a bed in 2nd bedroom the futon was hard. Great location! Needs some landscaping and cleaning by beach area .....hope this helps!

Owner's Response: So sad it was only a 3 star experience for the guest! And so sorry that the guest had issues with ants and the beach area. We would like all guests to know that if anything is a problem they should text us immediately. This is the first this summer that we have heard of the ants. If we had known, our helper, Alex, could have administered ant control that we have found to be very effective (we keep it in the garage since it is a poison and has to be used correctly). He also could have cleaned whatever was unsatisfactory in the beach area. As for the beds--they are both proper queen size beds as you can see in the pictures---no futon---but one is a platform bed. No one has complained about it being hard before but if we get more complaints we will add a memory foam topper. Thanks for coming and letting us know about these issues!

Exactly what I was looking for!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was available on the dates that I was looking to book...It was in the location I wanted to be in....It was just exactly what I wanted. I booked it with the hope that several of my Ithaca College/Binghamton/Rochester friends would be able to come and join me for 1 or more days. It worked out perfectly. The cabin was well equipped. I enjoyed the private dock each morning and evening with my beverage of choice. We all enjoyed the dock during the day. Several people enjoyed the kayaks. I would emphasize that, as Sally mentions, the property is not appropriate for anyone with mobility issues on stairs or uneven ground. Its a bit of a workout to get to and from the dock. The pictures posted by Sally are exactly what the cabin looks like in and out. My only suggestion would be to update the cushions on the rattan couch and chair. They are not very comfortable.

Thanks for a great vacation stay!
