Modernized/ restored/renovated Antique Cape (circa 1790) has been featured as the cover story for Down East magazine. The spacious home(2700 sq. ft) is situated on 83 very private acres of meadows and woodlands with 1/2 mile frontage on the Sheepscot River and several miles of private hiking trails near historic Alna. The home features 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 3 fireplaces, comfortable living room with classic brick fireplace, large dining room with large fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, a sun-filled sitting room overlooking the Sheepscot River, a dressing room, washer/dryer and an oversized 2 car carriage house. Also, great Winter/Holiday rental- fully winterized. Consider beautiful fall weather in Maine.
Also popular for holiday gatherings!
Period details abound including 24' floor boards, color washed plaster walls, wrought iron hardware, plus hand-painted murals and stenciling.
Located half a mile down a private and scenic gravel drive, this home's privacy is assured. The site is naturally landscaped with indigenous plants including the traditional lilacs, fruit trees, a grape arbor, clematis, and wisteria. It is a unique ecosystem at the confluence of the fresh and saltwater portions of the river. Wildlife abounds and a former owner ran ornithological studies for Cornell University.
We love unusual, unique properties with lots of acreage that can not be duplicated. This fits the bill. Being from the deep, hot and humid South we love the weather year round. We have also been impressed with the genuine hospitality you find from the locals- It probably helps being just a bit off the beaten track- but still only 15 minutes from two great towns- Damariscotta and Wiscasset.
We just returned from a week at this exceptional property in Alna. The house is charming and well kept, the trails and the river are beautiful and the owner went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable at his home. Our group (two families with children) made day trips up and down the midcoast but also enjoyed the local attractions in Alna like breakfast at the store and the WW&F train museum. I highly recommend this property.
We had a great time in Alna at this vacation home. The views of Sheepscot River and the walking trails were great. A great location! The kitchen and house was well equipped just like you would find at home. We will return.
Loved everything about this house and its owners. Beautiful and peaceful, yet convenient to everything in the midcoast.
Three couples stayed at the Alna Cape in Fall of 2011. Relaxing, comfortable, with every amenity you need. Loved the area, we went on day trips all week and would go back every year if possible. So much history and the local towns are so charming. Owners keep info on all the best restaurants and places to visit. Can't wait to go back!!!
Loved this house and property. Peaceful, beautiful and unique. The trails were great and day trips to Pemiquid , Alna, Damarscotta and Boothbay were super. Not enough time to do and see everything we wanted to. Look forward to returning soon!
I was able to spend a week at this rental property in late June and found the house CHARMING and the location perfect for one seeking solitude from the stresses of work and city life but close enough to the coast for town adventures. While the house is dated 1780, the facilities are updated with modern bathrooms and kitchen and TV. Washer and dryer are located in a cool basement cellar. River outings were easy with the owner's kayaks and canoe available at the river. Would recommend this rental to anyone and hope that I will have many return visits for my perfect Maine vacation!!!!
Property located in the historic post card town of Alna featuring the community of Head Tide. Only 10 miles from Wiscasset, Damariscotta and 15 miles from Boothbay, the property is secluded, yet close to all services and shopping. The property is one mile north of picturesque Sheepscot Village and offers a half mile of river frontage on the undeveloped Sheepscot river. The Sheepscot River offers excellent saltwater/brackish Striper fishing
( canoe provided). The property also borders 1/2 mile brook offering fresh water trout fishing. Property includes over two miles of nature trails through varying terrain, all of which is heavily forested.
