Unique Rustic Log House in Jardine, Montana

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Enjoy the relaxing and fun atmosphere of this one of a kind log house. It is tucked in the mountains at the “end of the road” in the old mining town of Jardine, Montana, which is 6 miles northeast of Gardiner – the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. This place offers a nice balance between seclusion and easy access to endless sightseeing, wildlife viewing, and outdoor recreation opportunities.

This property is located next to a guest ranch/outfitting business, Specimen Creek Outfitters. Services include daily/hourly horseback rides ***offering a complimentary horseback ride to the folks who stay here***, as well as pack trips, fishing trips, and hunting trips into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. You can literally walk out the front door and go horseback riding. Or you can sit on the porch with your coffee and watch the saddle horses and pack mule strings come and go.

The North Fork of Bear Creek is only about 100 yards below. It is a beautiful mountain stream and the fishing is good! Nights are quiet and peaceful. And the night sky is brilliant – take time to gaze at the stars.

This house is rustic and has lots of character. It is clean and cozy, but the layout and decor aren’t too fussy or uptight. The original portion of the house was built in 1994 with logs skidded out of the forest with a team of Percheron horses and peeled by hand. It includes an open kitchen with appliances and dishes. There is a deck where you can kick back and take in the scenery. One bathroom has an antique clawfoot tub. There is a loft/bedroom with a homemade queen size log bed. There is a nice sounding old piano for the fun of it.

A versatile 'great' room, which includes a bar (with sink, fridge and TV) and a full bathroom was added on to the house in 2001, and it is ideal for entertaining and hanging out. There are antlers, tanned hides, antiques, etc. throughout the house – sort of a wildlife/western theme. There is a large yard with trees, a picnic table, and a firepit. The native wildflowers are beautiful and plentiful. And various species of birds and wildlife will share this property with you.

There are also two convertible sofa beds in addition to a bedroom and the loft. The unique floor plan of this home can easily and comfortably accommodate a group of 8. This property is kid friendly and your well behaved pets are welcome too!

This rustic and cozy cabin = Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Could have stayed forever! The cabin is charming and cozy and clean and fully loaded with everything you could need. The views are beautiful and the area is peaceful and so many stars. We spent most of our time sight seeing in Yellowstone and didn't take Becky up on the horse back ride. After reading the guest book - we know we should have allotted time for the ride as it was the highlight of most visitors trip. We love it there and hope to go back some day. There would be no need to look elsewhere to stay. Becky's place has it all! Thank you so much Becky for an amazing place to stay. We took away many wonderful memories! Dan & Diane (IL)

Perfect Place to get away from everything

  • 5 of 5

Becky Lloyd, Ralph and Marley were fantastic. We took 6 grand kids, 5 boys and 1 girl. We arrived just before sunset and Becky was there to greet us and show us around the house. Then off she went to let us rest from the long trip in and even though she is right next door to help with anything, she stayed completely out of our way but was always willing to help with any questions we asked.

The place was rustic but clean. There was no cell service with ATT but she gave us an emergency number for people to call if they had to find us. Only used once by one of our children and Becky got the message to us immediately. They do have wifi, it's out in the country so kind of slow, but was just enough to help us get info about road closures and stuff on the iPad, but really helped us disconnect.

Our grand daughter made camp basically at the corrals and the team down there showed her lots of stuff. We took two rides scheduled through Becky. It was fantastic, just far enough out to disconnect, but you could still get to Yellowstone and Gardiner to do all the activities we wanted to do.

I cannot recommend this place enough.

Wonderful place to stay with horses!

  • 5 of 5

Becky, Lloyd, Marley and the whole staff were amazing! We were warmly received and made to feel very welcome. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed and then some! Our horses had a wonderful vacation as well; they rearranged their horse corrals so that our horses could safely stay in one of their big pens allowing us to play tourist in Yellowstone on the days we weren't riding them. Speaking of riding, you can ride into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness right from their property! Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

Perfect place to begin and end your days visiting Yellowstone !

  • 5 of 5

We just ended our second stay at this wonderful cabin. The first time we went with three couples and had so much fun that we brought our adult children and grandchildren to enjoy the cabin. Our goals this trip were to introduce our grandchildren to Yellowstone National Park and to have a relaxing place to begin and end our days. The cabin is great for children ! It has a wonderful yard to play in, fire-pit for roasting marshmallows, corals to enjoy seeing the trail horses and pack mules, and plenty of room inside the cabin for the children to play and hangout while the adults converse and enjoy evening libations. We like to cook, but did not want to spend all day in the kitchen, so we enjoyed the use of the exceedingly well equipped kitchen to prepare crock-pot meals (carnitas, sausage ragu) and the excellent outdoor barbecue to grill great bison burgers, chicken, ribs (we made at home and froze) and steaks. We have stayed in many VRBO rentals and have never seen anyplace so well provisioned and ready to use just like your home. Napkins, zip-locks, foils, wraps, spices, sugar, coffee, filters, paper plates, paper towels, drying towels, hot pads, pots, pans, utensils, kitchen tools, and dishes of all description and of great quantity and quality are provided. The bathrooms are also equally well equipped. Movies, area guides and local coffee table-type book are also provided.

We all enjoyed the included trail ride. The grandchildren were enthralled. The countryside surrounding the cabin is stunningly beautiful. The trail guides were very knowledgeable of the area and were sensitive to the age and abilities of the riders. The two hour ride was one of the highlights of our trip.

The cabin is located 6 miles from Jardine, so shopping for groceries was easy, as was getting into the North entrance to Yellowstone. When you reach the cabin after a long day of sightseeing in the park, you instantly relax and unwind. We spent a couple of late mornings at the cabin just to enjoy the scenic setting and a late morning cup of coffee. I can not recommend this cabin enough...

Better than Yellowstone!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four (including two girls, ages 6 and 8) had an amazing time at this cabin. It is exceptionally well stocked, clean, and comfortable. Our girls loved sleeping in the loft, and we all enjoyed the expansive movie collection (Sound of Music, anyone?), puzzles, and games. The cabin is in a great "off-the-beaten-path" location for total relaxation, but still just minutes from the entrance to Yellowstone. We loved exploring Yellowstone, but the cabin was the highlight of our trip. It sits among other cabins - the residences of folks who work for the outfitting company that runs the place. All the staff members were amazingly helpful and kind, teaching our girls all about the horses, and taking us all on beautiful rides through the adjacent national forest. I can't say enough great things about this place and the people who live and work there. If you want to experience the majesty of Montana, this is your place!

Ideal home base for Yellowstone visit

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four had a fantastic time. The house is extremely well equipped, spacious, and clean. We especially enjoyed the outdoor fireplace, the grill and the trail ride. Location can't be beat either, just minutes from the north entrance to Yellowstone. We highly recommend.
