About The Owner

My name is Beth Barton. I live with my husband of 41 years, Don in Daytona Beach, Florida. We have two sons, Jason & Justin a daughter-in-law, Jennifer and two granddaughters, Kaylyn (age 13) and Ashlyn (age 13) and a grandson age 10. We both work full time and try to get up to Sugar during vacations.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2005

Why The Owner chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

My husband Don and I had been vacationing many years at Sugar Mountain trying to escape from the summer heat in Daytona Beach. It was so nice to enjoy the small town atmosphere, cool weather in the summer and the beautiful scenery offered everywhere you go. We really enjoy the 4 seasons at Sugar Mountain and couldn't find a vacation we enjoyed more than these mountains. We were hooked, and just had to buy a 'PIECE OF PARADISE' here. Now we can share our home with others.

What makes this condo unique

The long range unobstructed, panoramic mountain views make this property very unique. This is NOT in a high rise!! We are one of four villas in the building. We are at 5,000 feet altitude and during the hot part of the summer it never gets above 73 degrees. The private wood deck is much larger than most decks around and lots of seating available. The villa is very comfortable with 2 recliners, a comfortable couch and a rocking chair. The 10' ceilings add to the feeling of space and the layout is large and open with lots of glass to take in the views. There are only a few steps to enter from the road and with a rail on each side for easy access.

We are only a 7 minute drive down the mountain to Banner Elk, near all the ammenities.

THE VIEW ..THE VIEW ..THE VIEW ..and all the comforts of home !

  • 5 of 5

We had a pipe burst at our place in the mtns near by..I searched the vacation site and came across THE VIEW. Look no more.. I though this is the place! I called the owner Beth and we hit it off right away, I felt like I was talking to an old friend. We spent approx 5 weeks in this perfect spot. Relaxing, dining in and out, walking in the snow, wine/coffee on the deck and THE VIEW . There are 2 recliners for watching tv and THE VIEW. I created a little work station in the dining room. Coming home from a day of dealing with our own place and the water leak, this place was Perfect , and returning from a hectic day THE VIEW was a site for sore eyes. Beth thank you so much for your hospitality. We will definitely return some day ! Did I say we loved THE VIEW?

Quiet, comfortable, easy to drive to, clean, well maintained, beautiful view, quality furniture!

Dear Elizabeth,

We had a great time! The weather was great! Our meals were great (Thank you for your recommendations)! We never had to adjust the thermostat (change it, or turn it on) because everything was so cozy. The bed in the master bedroom was really comfortable. I looked for the name of the manufacturer on the mattress (because I am looking for a replacement) but didn't find a name on it.

Things I didn't bring that I was glad that you had: salt and pepper

Just a few comments about what was not a problem (because we brought items to resolve what we might need), but might help others when they stay at your lovely home.

1. We needed to plug in a computer in the living room area. There were no plugs available to plug in. We used an extension cord, plugged into where one of the two lamps were plugged in, plugged in the two lamps into the other end of the extension cord, which freed up a wall plug for my computer. That's not a problem for us, but you might not want every vacationer plugging/unplugging your lamps. We suggest you run a grounded electrical strip under the table between the two recliners.

2. We needed additional plugs in the master bedroom to recharge an iPad, an iPhone, and an Apple watch. We used a 5-plug electrical strip that we plugged behind the tall dresser. If the dresser was moved about 4 inches to the right, we would have been able to get to the plug without moving the dresser. If our cord for the electrical strip had been long enough, placing it on top of the dresser would have been optimal. We ended up putting it on the floor, and it worked fine because two of our three charging cords were long enough.

3. We thought we might have problems connecting a CPAP machine that I use when sleeping, but found a plug at the middle of the bed headboard. We didn't find any other plugs that were accessible.

4. The bedroom with the twin beds had the same plug availability issues.

5. We wanted to use Amazon Prime to watch movies while we were there. To do that, we needed to plug our computer into your tv via HDMI cord. That worked just fine for us; we streamed several movies from Amazon in the evening. We had a 6-foot HDMI cord that we plugged into the HDMI-1 jack on the TV.

Our surprise was that there were only about 15-20% of the units that had anyone staying in them. Only 2 of the 4 units in your building were occupied. We hardly heard the other family in the lower unit next to us.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed our mountain home and were so comfortable! We will take your suggestion and put an extra strip in the master bedroom in case someone needed extra plug in ports. We always plug our cell phones, ipads etc in the kitchen so never thought the need for extra plugs. Thank you for your nice review

We have stayed at several places on Beech and Sugar over the last 10 years and this is by far our favorite. We have been many times and Beth is very sweet and always a pleasure to talk to. The condo is super cozy and the views are unbeatable. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful relaxing view

Had a great short weekend. Wish we could have stayed longer. The place is very close to the Grandfather Mountain Profile Trail. We were going to do that, but the weather did not cooperate. Very nice comfortable place. And a view to die for.
