This house was originally built on the Marine base at Parris Island as a barrack. It was moved to Pigeon Point Road in the 1950's. We purchased the wooded lot next door to our own home in 2001, in the same community which is a quiet residential community bordered on two sides by the intra-coastal waterway with excellent community features including a public boat landing and neighborhood park. It is a great walking, biking, fishing and boat friendly community. The original house was only 14' by 42'. The design is commonly referred to as a 'shotgun house' -- long and narrow. Upon it's arrival to our lot, we began major renovation. We added two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a full kitchen. It's evolution continued as we could manage with our second phase renovation occurring in 2008 to accommodate our aging parents. More space and comfort was created by adding two bays to the primary living area. One houses a lovely gas fireplace to enhance the sitting/tv screening area; the other bay provides a light-filled dinning area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a flower garden and bird feeder. The walk-in shower was added to one of the bathrooms. Extension was added to the rear of the home allowing us to add two walk-in closets and expand the screened porch for outside (bug proof) seating adjacent the outdoor grill. A coat closet was added in the hallway between the kitchen and dining room and doubles for extra storage. The home is now a full functioning house with roomy cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans, heart-pine flooring throughout -- complete with an authentic claw-foot bathtub off the master bedroom. Each room is painted a yummy color compatible with the lowcountry surroundings and colorful backdrop for our installation of Eric's oversize lowcountry photographs throughout the home - ever reminding guests of the extraordinary wildlife and natural beauty that surrounds them. Most people who walk in the front door for the first time fall in love with it.

Jan and I have been residents of Beaufort since 1996 and love it. Eric has been photographing nature & wildlife since college and establishing a commercial photography business throughout the southeast. Jan is a partner in the photo business bringing her artistry as writer, editor, office manager, pubic relations along with her gourmet cooking, gardening, tailoring and tennis & yoga coach -- whatever is needed! We met on Hilton Head Island in 1990 when Jan was bringing artists into the area schools, grant writing for the local arts council and raising two youngins. Our first venture together included partnering Jan's grant expertise and my recent photos from Africa into a traveling exhibition. A successful tour later led to marriage. Our travels and adventure continue. We love living on the coast and treasure the unique blend of rich cultural opportunities with extraordinary natural beauty and resources all around us.

This house, built on Parris Island was later moved to Pigeon Point community, and now resides on the lot next door to our own home. We moved it here when it was in pretty sad shape, did not even claim ownership to it when neighbors would walk by it's earliest stage ---but we could see it's potential. We planned the ultimate fix up would be something special. A house different from all the rest - but would blend well in his unique lowcountry neighborhood. The remodel was a labor of love and not without it's challenges as older homes come with surprises when stripped to the bones. After it's initial remodel, we rented the house long term, sold it, bought it back again for our parents to enjoy in their senior years. Now that they have moved on, we continue upgrading as able -- now wonderfully suitable for visiting and vacationing guests, family and friends.

You have a choice of beaches 20 minutes either north or south. Neighboring Port Royal community is an in-town beachfront that you can drive right up to the waters edge, walk the boardwalk up to a scenic overview of the river and Parris Island and partake in waterfront dining alongside their shrimp docks. The drive south to Hunting Island is 20 minutes passing by a spectacular scenic route over bridges and causeways, past outdoor vegetable and seafood stands and local, longtime residential rural life. Hunting Island offers outdoor recreation -- surfing, swimming, hiking & biking trails run throughout the maritime forest, covered picnic areas and active lighthouse. World class golf courses one-hour away on Hilton Head Island with several popular public courses less than 30 minutes in Bluffton and Beaufort. If you're traveling with critter friends, you'll enjoy our neighborhood dog park an easy walk from the house.
The house was delightful and cozy and actually more roomy than it looks in the pictures. The owners were around when we arrived tidying up in the yard and with fresh flowers in a small vase to welcome us. The bedrooms are spacious and airy - with huge walk-in closets and lots of light and windows, especially in the master bedroom. The linens were immaculate and white. The house is in a quiet charming neighborhood. WE thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage in Beaufort owned by Eric & Jan Horan. The house was clean, had plenty of room for 2 people and our pet. We liked that the parking was behind the house and not out front. We also enjoyed the HUGE closets in each bedroom. The house was in a good location, close to everything, but faraway enough for quiet time. We certainly would recommend this house to anyone who would like to be able to visit Beaufort, Port Royal, St. Helena's, Hunting Island State Park, and Parris Island. They are all worth your time. Thanks Eric & Jan for making our vacation memorable. We probably will see you again in the future.

We found Jan and Eric's Cottage Home endearing and set up well for a relaxing vacation. The home had elegance if traveling for a couples weekend while also being welcoming for a family. Enjoyed cooking in the well set up kitchen and time in the garden after beach days at Hunting Island and the beds are very comfortable.. Excellent restaurants and historic sites are within walking distance as well. Already looking forward to thinking of when we can return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect for us, and the neighborhood couldn't be more welcoming, quiet, and charming. The beds in both bedrooms were very comfortable, the kitchen was completely outfitted, and the furniture gave you countless seating - and sleeping - arrangements. (There are two large, and very comfortable, sofas in the family room, one of which our bachelor son used for sleeping. Perfect).
What was a real surprise were the beautiful photos hanging throughout the cottage. We subsequently learned that the owner (Eric) was a noted photographer, with a studio downtown, and he went to great lengths to decorate with some of his work. The photos were all of low-country scenes - and we spent lots of time oohing and aahing. A very, very nice touch.
All-in-all a perfect match for what we were looking for. You won't be disappointed.
We had a very nice few days at this beautiful Beaufort cottage. It appears small from the outside, but is very roomy inside. The bed was very comfortable, and all the facilities worked. We really enjoyed sitting on the screened-in back deck during the one rain storm that occurred. The owners live next door, but other than a wave, they pretty much let us come and go as we pleased.
The neighborhood was fun to walk around. If you bring a dog, be sure to walk them north on Pigeon Point Rd. There's a lovely little boat dock and small park where you can see the sun set.
We had 2 great dinners at the Old Bull Tavern.
Brought visitors from UK to Beaufort , This cottage had everything we needed,to make our stay perfect! Especially enjoyed our evenings Rocking away on the Front Porch,Our Hosts were very accommodating and took care of our every need, Highly recommend this location.
