Overview

Marathon Shores House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-8)

Our home is a bright, open house with huge windows that look out over the Gulf of Mexico. With water on two sides, there is plenty of dockage (over 150') for your boat. New furniture in all of the bedrooms, a new hot tub/spa that seats 5/6 people, a Ms. Pac-Man machine, and a Island Oasis frozen drink machine, and a 50 inch TV will keep you entertained in comfort and style.

Located on a quiet lagoon with protected dockage and beautiful wide open views of the Gulf. Sunsets are fabulous, and we often see manatees and tarpon from the dock. A commercial ice machine will make plenty of ice for fishing and cold drinks, while the new Kayak and bicycles will provide even more entertainment.

Suitability:
  • Long-term Renters Welcome
  • Low Allergen Environment

Rented by myself my parents, my brother and my 9 year old daughter. Checked in on 07/09 and was very impressed with the property. The ladder to get into the water was missing (found out later it was removed by the owner as barnacles grew on the steps) we were not able to get into the water.

The air conditioning was not adequate for this property. The master bedroom temp averaged 78-82 the entire week. We called the owner and he sent an Air Conditioning specialist who added freon but there are no returns in the master bedroom and the air just does not circulate in this room. We kept the sliding door between the middle bed room and master open as there is a unit in the middle bedroom which keeps that unit cool but it did nothing for the Master Bedroom.

The back bedroom was not as bad but was still hot for my brother. There was a note on the fridge that stated "helpful hint to maintain the temp to close the blinds in the living room (there went the beautiful views) After the Air Conditioning guy came and went the temperature did not improve. My mother spent the first night on the couch. After that I let her have my bed room and I spent the night on the couch from then on in.We are from Atlanta and are used to hot weather and do not complain. But coming inside from the Keys weather the last thing you want is more heat. (we vacation in the keys every year and are used to Keys weather)

I find it hard to believe no one has reviewed and mentioned the problem with the air conditioning before this. I can't recommend this property even though it is beautiful. He did have a ton of extra things to use such as bikes, kayaks and the hot tub.

Every other visit to the keys we have always wanted to stay longer. This trip we left Friday afternoon/early evening as no one felt like spending another sleepless night there.

I believe the property needs a new A/C system and would be an amazing rental if the owner put the money in to fix the air. I also believe this is the reason the property is listed and handled by the owner and not an agent as I believe an agent would not allow renters to stay here with the A/C being inadequate for this property. (there are no vents in the Master Bedroom and only a ceiling fan)

The owner is nice and responds swiftly but this is not a problem that can be temporarily fixed. We had a blast during the day outside but inside was pretty miserable when the temp hovers right around 80.I can't recommend the property.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that you were uncomfortable during your stay. I was under the impression that the AC repairman had corrected the issue during his visit. I stayed at the property the following two weeks, and also had issues with the AC system. I found the condensate drain switch was shutting the system off due to a leak in the drain line and the secondary pan. I made repairs to the line and the system ran well the remainder of my stay. We do have a large A/C vent in the Master Bedroom, overhead on the NW corner of the room. It is a directional vent, aiming the air South and East. There is not a return, and so we leave the door cracked open and/or crack open both the sliders to the adjoining bedroom and the sliders from that room to the Living Room. The additional portable AC unit in that room will normally keep it cool if you prefer to keep it closed up. We also leave the Master Bedroom ceiling fan on at night, I found on our arrival that it was blowing the air up, not down. I switched this with the remote, and my wife and I needed to pull the comforter over us at night. I have spoken with my A/C man, and he is going to rebalance the ductwork to create additional cooling in the Master Bedroom, as well as modify the door to allow for additional return "suction" . Again I apologize for your discomfort. I did remove the ladder you mention. A renter ran into it with his boat, damaging the ladder and the dock. It also grew barnacles very quickly, and I was concerned that someone would cut their feet. When we want to swim in the lagoon, we normally jump off the dock and use a kayak to climb back up, granted, this can be difficult at low tide. I will get an updated photo without the ladder posted next time I am at the home. Again, I am sorry you did not have a five star visit.

Beautiful View and House

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented for a week with another couple. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and all amenities. The Mrs. Pacman machine with frogger and another game was a great addition. Plus the ice machine, extra bait fridge, bicycles and kayaks were all very nice additions that were put to good use.

An amazing stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We all were very impressed with the home and amenities with this rental. We had 6 adults in our party and there was more than enough room. The kayaks were a huge bonus! We used them just about everyday of our stay along with fishing right off the dock. There was a lot of wild life and fish right in canal. We were visited by manatees and sea turtles frequently. Also the Mrs Pacman machine was a hit too. Great location as well. Everything was a quick drive from the house. There was so much to do at the house, you really don't have to leave. This house was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need.

The only negative that was mentioned the whole trip was the back bedroom bed was a little hard. Nothing a mattress topper can't fix. The other negative was the trip was not long enough!!

We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this rental. All of us had a wonderful trip and have memories for a lifetime. Thank you Greg!

Beautiful views

Nice comfortable home. Spectacular views, awesome location and lots of space for docking boats.

The wide canal offers a great area for paddle boarding. There are also lots of restaurants in the area that can be reached by water.

Loved Marathon!

Perfect place

  • 5 of 5

This place is a perfect fisherman's place. 2 minutes and your full throttle on the boat. Enjoyed diving right off the 150' dock, and found a legal lobster. Also caught as many legal mangrove snapper as we wanted right off the dock.

The commercial ice machine saved us hundreds, the drink machine made hundreds, and mastered the game machine. Very clean, nice kitchen appliances, excellent flatware, plates, glasses and pots/pans.

What a beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This property offers the perfect location. The view is amazing, and the home was comfortable and spacious. We considered a trip to Key West for the day and ended up staying right where we were. We snorkeled right off the dock and saw schools of parrot fish, turtles and more. The highlight of the trip was a visit from a manatee who enjoyed a drink of fresh water. We did not want for a thing! It was a wonderful week in paradise.
