Lake Lure Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

River Rose Cottage is a charming cottage on a dead-end street that runs along the Rocky Broad River in Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Just a short walk over the bridge and you are in downtown Chimney Rock. Lake Lure Marina and Beach is only a mile from the cottage. Built in 1921, the cottage retains many charming elements from its past, such as 10 foot bead-board ceilings and a natural stone fireplace with gas logs for chilly mountain evenings. River Rose Cottage has been upgraded and renovated with modern amenities, including a new fully renovated bathroom in 2016.

The cottage has three porches furnished for outdoor living and dining, complete with rocking chairs and ceiling fans. The back screened porch overlooks the river and the open front porch is directly below Chimney Rock, affording a beautiful view of 'The Rock' which is dramatically illuminated in the evenings. However, our guests say their favorite spot for reading and relaxing is the large screened side porch where the sounds of the rushing river often lull you to sleep.

The Rocky Broad River is excellent for fly fishing, wading and tubing and is just steps from your back door! It's a River Rose Cottage tradition to spend an evening with family and friends around a campfire roasting hot dogs and marshmallows down by the river. Located within walking distance to village shops and restaurants and less than a mile from Lake Lure, River Rose Cottage is perfect for a family vacation, or a romantic getaway for two.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a 5-night minimum in the busy summer months and a 2-night minimum the rest of the year. Some holidays require a 3-night minimum. We turn over on Sat or Sun in the summer. However, sometimes scheduling allows us to accept less than a 5-night minimum in summer, so please don't hesitate to inquire. However, we always have a 2-night minimum. We are sorry, but we are unable to accept one-night rentals.

About Sharon Ryan

Our family enjoys staying at River Rose Cottage because it is located on a charming village lane and is just a short walk over the bridge to Chimney Rock Village. We enjoy visiting the shops, sampling the family oriented restaurants, gem mining, and walking along the River Walk. We play mini golf in the village and enjoy the beautiful mountain and river views. And fishing in the Rocky Broad River is right out the back door.

Why Sharon Ryan chose Asheville Area

We love outdoor activities and they are abundant here. You can walk down to the river in the back of the cottage to fish, wade or tube. Hiking and exploring Chimney Rock State Park is lots of fun and the entrance to the Park is very close by. The Lake Lure Marina is just a mile away where you can take a run (or walk) on the pedestrian trail, rent a canoe, play a game of tennis while the kids enjoy the playground equipment, or swim and enjoy water games at the Lake Lure Beach,

What makes this cottage unique

First thing in the morning, we walk to the Lake Lure Marina and run on the pedestrian trial that weaves along the shoreline of Lake Lure. On the way back to the cottage, we walk along the beautiful Flowering Bridge that spans the river. At the cottage, we have breakfast on the screen porch overlooking the river. If we are in the mood for hiking, we pack a picnic lunch and hike in Chimney Rock State Park. Our sons really enjoy the rock climbing tower there. After a strenuous day hiking, my wife enjoys a soak in the Jacuzzi tub that we recently installed when we renovated one of the bathrooms. We have dinner in one of the lakefront restaurants in Lake Lure and sample the local trout. However, if we're feeling lazy, we just enjoy spending the day reading while sitting in one of the rockers on the screen porch and listening to the soothing sounds of the Rocky Broad River, right out the back door.

We loved our stay at River Rose cottage!! It was only my husband and I so we didn't use much of the house. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and clean. Loved being right on the river. My husband caught plenty of trout. We were lucky with absolutely beautiful weather the 5 days we were there so we spent much of our time outside. We would definitely come back again!

My husband and I came with our two girls and his parents. We all enjoyed the stay so much. Our girls especially loved the house and the river behind it. We adults loved the views and the location was perfect for us. We took this trip because my father-in-law has a terminal illness and we wanted to be able to take a trip with him to make some lasting memories and give him his wish of seeing the mountains at least one last time. We would really like to come back for a longer stay in the future.

Restful and full of fun

The cabin was all we expected and had hoped for. Everything we needed was there. The river was a magnet for the morning coffee drinking and the afternoon adult beverage! The TV and the radio were there, but we never used them, we spent those pleasant evenings on the side porch listening to the river and chattering away about the day we had and the day we were going to have tomorrow. We had great evening meals at La Strada and Larkins on the lake and several good breakfasts at Medina's! All in all, a great trip and we are making our plans for another visit in the fall!

Four of us stayed in River Rose cottage a week, and we all left loving it.

Since I enjoy furniture restoration and love old houses, this 1920's built home was even more special than many nice Bed & Breakfast places I have stayed in Charleston, Savannah or elswhere. Having Chimney Rock mountain itself directly off our front porch was amazing. It rained every day but we had a beautiful Tuesday afternoon that we spent at the city park/marina/pavillion on Lake Lure just around the cove from where scenes of the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed. We caught a lot of nice size perch and met a lot of nice local residents out walking. One young fly fishing guy even later in the week took some members of our party to his own favorite fishing spots. The Ingles grocery store a few minutes away was more than excellent as were its friendly workers. I was surprised to see a large group of about 25 elementary school kids maybe 5, 6 or 7 being led from area to area in the store with the different workers in the meat department and pharmamacy demonstrating to the kids what their departments were about. I've never seen a field trip to a grocery store before. We also were impressed to later later learn that actor Nick Nolte has a house around Lake Lure and frequently shops at that same Ingles. I walked to several of the gift shops in Chimney Rock Village and was pleased to find that the gift shop items were reasonlably priced and the employees were very friendly. We didn't meet a single person we didn't like the whole week. We also appreciated how well stocked our cottage was, the remote control gas logs, the two wonderful screened in porches and beautiful surrounding area with all the dogwood, red maple and others trees and gorgeous white, pink and dark red azaela bushes. All in all a memorable time.

My husband and I enjoyed being on the river and within walking distance to town. Even though main street was just across the river we hardly ever heard traffic noises. The sound of the river and most especially the birds was very calming. We would definitely recommend this cottage and rental agency.

Charming, cozy, and relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here with our 2 year old daughter and my 2 teenage daughters. The cabin is located so conveniently to downtown Chimney Rock that we spent much of the week walking to the shops, while my husband would relax and watch TV in front of the WARM fireplace. We also slipped off to Hendersonville one day, which was wonderful. The kitchen was very well appointed and I loved all the windows looking out over the river. We absolutely loved everything about the cabin, and had such a wonderful vacation that it was so hard to have to leave! I already miss being there, and am so looking forward to coming back next year!
