Visit our charming custom-built apartment tucked away on 4 acres in up-country Kona. The apartment, with a private entry is located below our home and at the end of a long driveway allowing for privacy and seclusion. The property “looks like a park,” according to one guest, with expansive lawn areas, lush landscaping with ohia trees, tree ferns, antheriums, and other tropical plants. In our fenced pasture live our 5 goats and our baby donkey, "Bunny Ears."
BEDROOM AND BATH
The peaceful and private master bedroom is decorated in a tropical theme and features a queen-sized bed. Travertine covers the floor, shower, and antique cabinet in the bathroom, which includes a tub shower combination.
The sitting room has a queen-sized sofa sleeper for two additional guests and features a 32” flat screen plasma HDTV. It is adjacent to the kitchen and opens on to the spacious lanai.
From the sitting room, step out onto a vine-covered lanai looking out to views of the Kona Coastline, the perfect spot to enjoy the garden and 'plein air' dining. The lanai is furnished with a teak dining set and two comfy wicker chairs.
The kitchen is small, yet sufficient, set up with a small refrigerator, cook top, microwave, coffee maker and necessary kitchen supplies for cooking and dining. Enjoy the granite countertop and lovely window that looks out to the yard and coastline views.

My husband is from the beautiful island of Maui. I have lived in Hawaii since our wedding and am grateful that we were able raise our 4 children in this lovely place with its rich culture and lush surroundings. I am a retired teacher and my husband is a retired rancher now doing development consulting. We like hiking, swimming, golf, tennis and the ocean. 'Lucky we live Hawaii.'
Christine Carlson purchased this apartment in 1995
We opened our rental in 1995 in a private apartment below our main house. We rented it to guests for several years and recently our son and daughter-in-law lived in it for about a year. They have moved on to their own home and we are open for business again. I love sharing our lovely property and the Kona life style with guests. The rooms were recently renovated to make them even more beautiful and comfortable for our guests.
Thank you so much for the lovely pace to stay for the past 2 nights. We enjoyed it very much and thank you for having the best spot on the Island. If we are fortunate enough to return to Hawaii someday, we will definitely book in again. We loved the sheep.
Our family of four had a wonderful stay! Accommodations and communication were terrific. We enjoyed Foxy the welcome dog as she greeted us each day! Thank you for sharing your home and beautiful property with us.
The unit was everything we were hoping it would be! From the winding driveway through tropical foliage, past the beautiful home, to our unit on the lower level. We had a covered lanai overlooking a lawn and down the hill for a spectacular view of the ocean. Its a higher elevation than the town and oceanfront which was good for relaxing in cooler temps after a day of being in the heat of Kona. We had a friend for our stay - Foxy, their dog. The owners will keep the dog away if its necessary, but that wasn't needed for us. We enjoyed the company of Foxy. On top of that our hosts was a wonderful couple and we would stay there again!
I stayed two weeks with my husband and 4 year old son. I most loved the cool, quiet place to begin and end each day. The porch is great for sitting and watching a variety of birds, lizards (my son called them "the amazing creatures"), and stars. The location was very convenient to many coastal sites to the north and south as well as Waimea and Kailua-Kona. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well-stocked. Foxy the dog was great company.
This is a very secluded, clean, tidy & cozy 2 room apartment adjoining the main house. Beautiful home in a lush garden setting. Very impressive tropical garden-lined driveway. We were greeted by 3 goats (fenced on a hill), chickens, birds and Foxy (the sweetest dog).
Quite an interesting drive up a hill and around winding roads to get here. Would have been a more pleasant drive if everyone enjoyed the beauty of the area as much as we did.
The best part of the apartment was the deck. We sat there as much as we could for meals or just to relax as the sun set. Such a gorgeous view of the coast and town when the "vog" cleared out. And Foxy made our time on the deck even more relaxing. She needs to do a blog or Facebook page.
The kitchen & TV areas are cozy. Microwave & coffee maker worked great. Didn't try the toaster oven. Not much counter space for cooking or prepping food. Dorm size frig worked good, altho freezer needs help. Sofa bed & TV worked great, too. Bedroom was roomy with lots of places to store our stuff.
The area is very humid, so a dehumidifier is a must. It worked great & did it's job well. Just a little loud. We turned it off overnight.
We got to meet Carl and enjoyed our chat. He was speedy in getting us a replacement lightbulb we needed.
We were disappointed to not be able to meet Christine. She was very good about replying to my emails in a timely manner.
All-in-all a very enjoyable stay.
This place was a piece of heaven! Very tropical and refreshingly cool after warm days at the beaches. Peaceful and quiet. We loved having Foxy (resident pup) around ~ she was a love! We can't wait to come back again.
