About Steve Stewart

I am a former businessman and general contractor. I decided to build this Lodge not for myself but for the people that would be renting the place. We put the bedrooms on the four corners of the house so that no bedroom would have a common wall with other bedrooms. That left a large area down the middle where we put living area, dining area, bar, and the kitchen. It's all one one level and the entire Lodge has ceramic tile, no carpet.

Steve Stewart purchased this lodge in 2010

Why Steve Stewart chose Black Hills

The Black Hills is a beautiful place to vacation. There are virtually endless things to do and see in this historic place. The weather is agreeable and if you are into winter sports or 4 wheeling, this is the place to be. Most cabins are built as homes that owners rent out. Our Lodge was built for renting out. It is designed for the rentor not the owner.

What makes this lodge unique

We are located on a very private lot located in Lead, SD halfway between Deadwood and the ski slopes. You look down on a meadow nestled in the Hills out the front window and you have a view of Mt Custer off the deck in the rear. Everything needed is a very short drive.

Christmas Family Vacation, Pups Included!

  • 5 of 5

We spent four great nights here include Christmas Eve and Christmas day. We really appreciated all the little things the home included that we forgot to pack such as spices/tinfoil...all the little extras you need to make a holiday dinner. We loved the hot tub and by far our favorite part was that our beloved dogs could come too. It would not be Christmas without our whole family together. I packed a little Christmas tree but was delighted to find the home was already decorated wtih a lovely tree! We just unloaded our stuff and relaxed. We loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom and the grill was super handy! Thanks again for sharing your great place!

Great rental for family gathering!

  • 4 of 5

The Thunder Ridge Lodge was a great find for our family gathering. Very clean, convenient location to Black Hills, and plenty of room for 12 visitors. The layout of the house is perfect for hosting separate families as each can have their own "corner" of the house without issue. The kitchen is well equipped with all the appliances you may need for cooking for a large group.

Only recommendations for the owner/manager; (1) the power went out for a couple of hours and we looked for candles to provide additional lighting and was only able to find a single decorative candle that had very little wick/wax left. I would recommend back up light resources to have on hand. (2) The house is on a nice lot but not able to enjoy the grounds around the house as they were over ridden with very tall weeds. I would recommend knocking down some of the weeds surrounding the house to make the grounds more enjoyable to guests.

Overall, a great find and a great place to relax and hang out with family!

Owner's Response: I'm sorry about the grounds around the Lodge. My wife is a tree hugger that says that almost all the plants are native wildflowers and they flower and bloom at different times of the year. When you were there, I think the daisy's were blooming and as we go out there are different species flowering. I couldn't stand it and took the roundup around the Lodge and over in the extra lot area and that should make a difference. Thanks for the review. Steve

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Thunderridge Lodge is a great place to stay. Very clean. Plenty of room for our family of eight. The four bedrooms, four baths, and five TVs was great--everyone had their own space. We really enjoyed cooking together in the huge kitchen, and grilling on the gas grill. The location is very private with beautiful views. A mule deer and her two fawns would greet us every morning. The location makes for convenient sightseeing in the Black Hills. The owner was very helpful, answering our many questions. The only drawback was that the hot tub wasn't working, but this did not detract from our stay. All in all, Thunderridge Lodge is a great rental property.

Very nice cabin - very BROKEN dryer!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful cabin. Everything you might need is provided. Tons of towels, etc., seven beds, four bedrooms, hot tub, nice kitchen, pots, pans, even condiments in the refrigerator & cabinets. My main complaint is upon arrival, I ran a load of laundry only to have EVERY PIECE OF LAUNDRY RUINED in the dryer!!!! There was some sort of black build-up on the screen in the back of the dryer which caught on and melted onto EVERYTHING. Upon leaving the cabin, we discovered in the guest book written by prior guests that this has been happening for 2-3 years!!!!!! If only I had known.... :(((((( NOT a good start to a week long vacation. We had to string up a laundry line outside and had very crunchy & slow- drying laundry for the remainder of the trip.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the dryer, I thought it was fixed. We replaced it during the winter of 2015.

Great Lodge!

Perfect place for our retreat! Comfy beds, plenty of room, very clean and good location.

The kitchen had everything we needed. I would recommend this lodge for any retreat or family reunion.

The place looks better than the pictures!

Exceptional

  • 5 of 5

My family met at ThunderRidge for a get together and it was awesome. It was really nice that each bedroom has it's own shower and no bedrooms had adjoining walls. We grilled steaks out on the deck and everyone was really pleased with the place. Thank you so much
