Magic in Cabo Matapalo
We were at Casa Vida Verde for 5 nights, and it was truly magical! My only complaint is that we were not there long enough! The house itself seems as though it is meant to be a tropical-inspired Gaudi treehouse. It feels as though it was formed among the plants and trees it is nestled within. Little, unique design details are in unexpected nooks or along the walls. Everything is well thought out, the spaces are all very comfortable, from the living room to the viewing deck where we watched the monkeys and birds pass overhead or settle into the surrounding trees, to the covered lanai with the world's most nappable hammock. The pools were a Godsend at any time of day. We enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen, which is very well-equipped, and having dinners at the beautiful, big table with the sounds of the cicadas as dinner music. One night, Carlos arranged for Irma to cook for us, which was one of the many highlights of our stay. Irma is super sweet; she did all the shopping and clean-up and the food was spectacular!
There is such vibrance and life around the house and all over Cabo Matapalo. The flowers and varied tropical plants are a gorgeous feast for the eyes. We loved our monkey alarm clock that woke us early each morning. Unfortunately, Apple hasn't included a howler money sound for us to replicate it back home!
What really makes this house particularly outstanding is Carlos, the house manager. He is so incredibly thoughtful, kind, extremely knowledgable about the area, the plants and animals, and couldn't be more helpful. When we came home after dark from a dinner excursion to Martina's (highly recommended, especially on a Friday when the artisans are selling their wares), we were welcomed by the warm glow of the candles in the entry way, lit by Carlos. We are so grateful for everything he did to make our stay extraordinary, and hope to have the opportunity to visit Costa Rica and this remote little corner of the Osa Peninsula again some day! Pura vida!
hope we see you again...blessed love
An amazing property. in an incredible place
Thanks Hugh & Deb for for creating such a magical place. The design elements and details of the house are really quite amazing. I'd love to hear your building story - it can not have been easy. A wonderful place you created. We were all really blown away by the house. We had a magical week there and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Carlos also did a great job catering to any need we had. We had some incredible wildlife experiences too, including 30 species of birds from the patio in the morning. Just thinking back brings a smile to my face. I hope you will share it with us again some day!
We stayed at this house for a week during June of 2018 and so enjoyed every minute. The kitchen was well stocked and Sianne cooked a wonderful dinner for us. The jungle was thick and full of wildlife. I even saw a couple of anteaters on property. Beds were comfy and Carlos was a great caretaker full of knowledge and passion for the plants and animals. We had a wonderful time!
We enjoyed having you as our guest and hope that you can visit us in a near future.
Thank you for visiting us!
Amazing House with Incredible Garden in Paradise
Perfect for a family vacation or friends vacation. Excellent attention received from the caretaker of the house who is nearby. Had an amazing time, would rent again!!
Thank you so much and great to know you enjoy visiting us!
We look forward to seeing you again!
Perfect house for family vacation!
There have obviously been many well-deserved stellar reviews of this property, and despite that, our expectations were still exceeded. Carlos, the normal caretaker, was on vacation during our stay, but Roberto stayed on the property while we were there and was extremely attentive and genuinely cared about our time at the property being enjoyable and that things went smoothly for us. Yes, the house is remote, but that's what we were looking for. The wildlife around the house is was as good as advertised by other reviewers. From the house, we saw monkeys, macaws and other birds daily. We also saw toucans, a sloth, cotimundi, agouti and pavones grande, as well as various lizards and toads, at or right around the house. One of the best parts of the location being generally remote is that just walking along mata palo "road" to go to one of the beaches or hike to king louis waterfall -- all fairly short walks -- you are likely to see more wildlife all around.
The house itself is well-appointed, and I couldn't think of anything I would have expected it to have that it didn't. Maybe ceiling fans over the beds would have been nice, but minor gripe. The internet worked great for us (as long as you're not expecting to stream movies or anything) and the kitchen had everything you would expect. We made arrangements to have Irma cook for our family each night we were there, which I would highly recommend -- great food, and very convenient. We did not end up renting a car, which was a blessing in disguise because Heidy (our taxi driver) was an absolute pleasure to get to know and was there whenever we needed her. If you end up taking many trips up to Puerto Jiminez for activities and such, then it can get a little expensive, but at the end of the day it was worth it for us. Aside from going back and forth to Puerto Jiminez multiple times or perhaps making a trip or two to Martina's, I really don't think you need a car at the property.
As for the beaches, we knew from doing our research not to expect a lot from them. They are generally not gentle, sandy beaches, although we found backwash bay (maybe 10-15 min walk from the house) to be pretty nice at high tide and good for the kids (ages 8 and 5) to swim at. Otherwise, the beaches right around the house are a mixture of sand and stones/rock. Fortunately, the swell happened to be very light, so we were still able to take paddleboards out right from matapalo beach. Overall -- excellent place!
We are glad to know you enjoyed Casa Vida Verde and we loved having you stay with us.
Thanks for taking the time to write this review and the reccomendations.
Hopefully you will have the time to visit us again in a near future.
Even more than I expected. Carlos is great!
