|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
This five bedroom house, fully insulated and heated for year-round usage, was designed by local architect Bill Mead. It has 1800 inside square feet, a large screened porch, and a stand alone Summer use studio with a large private bedroom.
The 250 foot long natural beach is one of the largest on Squam Lake. Facing Great Island and Bowman Island, beside the Great Island Narrows, equipped with a dock and mooring, it provides easy access to the entire lake. The beach is 200 feet from the house, primarily via an elevated boardwalk.
The house was extensively remodeled in 2016, including an expanded kitchen, hardwood floors, and a new bathroom.
A group of friends and I were hoping to celebrate the New Year with an active winter weekend of skiing and snowshoeing and Squam Lake provided the perfect location to do just that! Located on the lake within a 5min drive to nature trails, and 40min drive to Waterville Valley, it's location was ideal. In addition, the house provided a vary large (warm!) fireplace, comfortable bedrooms, and a spacious kitchen for meals. We look forward to visiting again during warmer months to take advantage of the lake and local hiking.
Once again, a great stay at Squam. Love the location, it could not be better. Convenient to town when needed, but best when you leave town behind and stay at the lake. The loons call to welcome your arrival, and often serenade you to sleep. The house itself is wonderful. The newly renovated kitchen is fantastic for cooking with a crowd. Enough space for many hands to prepare meals, even for a bigger group. This house is perfect for family get together or weekend with friends. 6-8 people. We had different numbers of people with us during our stay.
First our family was there (6). My sister and I could jointly handle the meals with others pitching in too. Having enough space in the kitchen to allow more than one person to prep and to clean up was great. We always ate on the porch, which was just lovely.
The house design was great for our parents to be there with limited steps to climb. (just one, onto the porch. ) With a master bedroom and bath on the first floor, we had no worries about climbing stairs. And the beach was great for them as well, they could enjoy being in the water without having to climb on rocks and all to get in and out. Perfect.
The property was clean upon our arrival and the owners greeted us as we arrived to show us the new renovations. We had been there last year and they were excited to show us the changes. They also responded promptly to our questions. They could not have been nicer and were very helpful throughout our stay.
Our family has been renting on Squam lake for 20 years and this property has been our favorite. The minute we checked in we were welcomed and felt at home. The house was recently updated and is beautiful. Our group loved the beach we enjoyed swimming, floating and boating. It was fun taking the canoes out in the morning. The owners are very nice and provided the best customer service. Our family had a special week! Thanks! Can't wait until next summer.
We spent a week at this comfortable and welcoming family home. We came for a family gathering of our adult children and their families and friends and this rental had everything we needed. The house was lived-in, grandchild-friendly, dog-friendly, and sensibly equipped. The last paragraph of the description on the listing nicely describes the feeling of the house.
The second refrigerator came in very handy given the changing numbers for meals and the house is located close enough to a wonderful farm stand and the best local market so going out for more groceries was never a problem. The large screened-in porch served as a great dining room with plenty of room for everyone.
On rainy days, there was room enough for small groups to be doing totally separate things in the house or on the porch without any sense of being cramped or bothering someone who might be napping.
Open beach or sandy shallows are relatively rare on Squam. The beach here was unusually large and shallow enough for youngsters to get in and out of the water with ease. Even if the lake is high, leaving no uncovered sandy beach to sit on, the large area of sandy shallows is there for playing in the water and the dock is always there for sitting by the water with an outstanding view and sunsets. Several houses on this family property share the beach, and our family and the owner’s family members used the beach at the same time on occasion without any problem.
All of the bedrooms, but one over the kitchen, were quiet and the beds were comfortable. Earplugs solved any noise issues with that one bedroom. The second floor shower is cramped, but was hardly an issue.
Our family had a wonderful vacation at this property and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable and spacious place on the lake.
Over all one of the best experiences with a rental. Would definetly return, and is one of the most woderful backdrop to the Lake.
The house and beach were exactly as described, with plenty of room for a big family group. The beds were made and the house was clean. The sandy beach was perfect for young kids, the dock was new, and all other features were as promised. The old canoe was patched, but still floated. The kayak was in better shape, and I used it every day. I even saw a loon -- from a respectful distance! -- when kayaking in the cove one morning. A magical experience, floating sliently and watching the loon, before paddling quietly away. We heard the loons calling in the mornng as well. We also saw deer, the loud chipmunk who owns the patio, and too many birds to count. (Also a raccoon or bear determined to get into the trash.) There were blueberry bushes to provide a snack at the beach. We enjoyed eating on the screen porch, walking and jogging up the road, and heading over to Center Harbor for dinner at Canoe's. The kids loved getting ice-cream at the local ice-cream parlor in Center Harbor, which was super family friendly as well (I think it was Dewey's).
The owners were easily available by phone ahead of time. They answered all my questions promptly. They were very nice.
We only had two issues. One was that the boardwalk path down to the beach was overgrown, and the sandy beach was covered in leaves and pine needles when we arrived. We had to do a lot of loping off of braches and clearing of cobwebs before the boardwalk path was clear. We had some windy and rainy days, and our painstakingly cleared beach was soon covered again in leaves in pine needles. (Must be its natural state.)
The wireless internet worked very well, but I would recommend bringing your own laptop, since the computer at the house is pretty slow.
We are stilll awaiting the return of our security deposit, but it hasn't been a week since we left yet.
All in all, we had a great time and we have very happy memories. We would go back again and recommend the property.
