About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Oceanfront, 12 yr old home in private, treed setting on 5.14 acres (2.2 ha), 8 km from the town of Antigonish - on the map it is on road B44. It overlooks islands in a calm and peaceful bay- you need only walk out 50 feet and you are on the shore.

The home was custom built as a walkout with a raised main floor affording beautiful 180 degree views from the vaulted windows and 64 foot deck. The 1270 square foot main floor has an open plan, living room, dining room and kitchen. It also has two bedrooms with two bathrooms, front entry and laundry.

The oceanfront living room is large with vaulted ceilings, oversized windows and a ceiling fan. The dining room faces out to the ocean, opens to the deck and has a dining suite. The kitchen opens to the dining room so you still have a view as you prepare meals. The master bedroom, with queen bed, faces to the ocean (you wake to the rising sun) and opens to the deck. It has dual closets and an en-suite bathroom including oversized shower with seat, and a vanity with two sinks. The second bedroom has two single beds and its' own en-suite bathroom including full tub with shower.

The home accommodates four people on the main floor, is comfortably furnished including all linens. The appliances include fridge with freezer, stove with self cleaning oven, microwave, dishwasher, and a washer and dryer on the main floor. The kitchen is fully equipped with dinnerware, cutlery, coffee maker, blender, toaster, cookware, glassware etc. Television, satellite, High Speed Internet, stereo, DVD, CD, phone, hairdryers, Electric BBQ(Super large George Forman) and deck furniture are all there for you.

NO SMOKING PLEASE. No large parties/reunions/weddings/graduation please. Pets are permitted with prior approval.

You would find yourself on the 'mini Cabot Trail' as highway 337 is fondly known with picturesque fishing wharves. Nearby are numerous hiking trails, ranging from easy to moderate and challenging along streams and through wooded areas. From your deck, you will likely see bald headed eagles which live in the area as well as numerous birds, deer and local wildlife. Sea kayaks are available for rent nearby, you would kayak right out in front of your vacation rental. Boyd's Seafood Galley, located on Cribbon's Wharf is well known for its' seafood in a very pretty setting, overlooking the fishing boats.

The town of Antigonish is home to St Francis Xavier University. The St F X Fitness Centre is open to the public with excellent fitness equipment and pool (including aquasize). There is a highly rated 18 hole golf course, as well as tennis, nice restaurants, live theatre (summer months) and good shopping in a stress free pace of life.

You would be in a central area for touring, about halfway between Halifax and Sydney with access to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail, historic Louisbourg, Bras d'Or Lakes and numerous golf courses such as the renowned Cape Breton Highlands and Bell Bay. Pictou (45 min) is where the first Scottish settlers arrived on the ship Hector which has been replicated, full scale, at the Pictou waterfront. Near there is one of the largest private collections of Canadian Art at Abercrombie, open free for viewing on Wednesdays in July and August. For those of you who wish to enjoy Nova Scotian music, you will find many céildh's and festivals in the summer and the fall during Celtic Colors.

The LOWER LEVEL would not have other people when you are renting the main floor. The property is also available for $475,000 US.

The house was clean, comfortable and filled with natural sunlight .

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the beautiful views of the water from the dining room, living room, master bedroom and the surrounding deck. The house was filled with sunshine! When cooking we felt like we were in our own kitchen, since it was stocked with pans, dishes, utensils, wine glasses and etc. The neighbors were quiet and the local citizens at Antigonish were so friendly! Antagonist is an amazing community!

Antigoinish-A nice place to visit.

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a private location and was as presented in the ad. We rented the upper level and enjoyed the deck, views and privacy the home offered. Sylvia (property mgr.) and Jean (owner) were very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and the local area & people are very friendly. The Highland games were a treat too!! Great Vacation Get-away

  • 5 of 5

We rented property in July 2014. I thought better late then never to write a review. We had our two grand-daughters with us and had such a lovely holiday. The house was exceptionally clean and well stocked with everything you could possibly need but of course it was the view that took our breath away. We had a lobster dinner and kitchen was well equipped to make lovely meals. thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We loved the setting - right on the cove - very scenic and oh so quiet - yet near to town for food shopping, gas, hiking trails, highway access, etc. House is very nice - fully stocked kitchen, big windows, deck, comfy beds, lots to read -- everything we needed!

Oceanfront, Private, 180 Degree Views

Picture a rental being fully equipped with all the basic necessities, then multiply that by ten. It is exactly as pictured in the listing photos, but even more charming than it appears in those pictures. Sylvia, the local lady responsible for maintenance does a remarkable job - we are certain that you will find the place spotless.

The owners, even though they reside in Calgary, were extremely helpful in highlighting the not to be missed local attractions. We got caught up in the local history, and found many places abounding with information.

There are many local restaurants worth visiting in the town and surrounding area. At the risk of repeating other reviews we enjoyed Boyd's Seafood Galley at Cribbons Wharf, as well as several in the town itself.

We would strongly recommend this property to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat. Five Stars+++

Great house and panoramic view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this house (except for the heat, discussed below). The home is lovely and has a wonderful view over a beautiful bay. We are birders and set up our scope at the picture window and watched eagles, loons, osprey and other birds. We also enjoyed the town of Antigonish and the University there (about 5 miles from the house, an easy drive). There are some nice beaches nearby and a great drive up to Cape George Lighthouse. The house is well appointed, very clean and has everything you need. There is a nice deck area over looking the water. The only negative we had was that it was very hot for the last few days of our stay there ( 30 degrees C) and the living area with the large windows got too hot in the sun. There is no air conditioning and no shade for the windows.
