The most wonderful fall beach experience

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful property and an attentive and helpful owner. We had a last minute soccer tournament come up in Nauset and needed to find a place for two families and one dog. This was a perfect solution--Betty told us our dog was welcome and didn't even charge more for our 40 pound dog.

We had four adults, one teenager and three 10 year old boys in the house. The boys LOVED the upstairs loft and called it alternatively the Boathouse and the Man Cave. They spent most of their time up there. The living room is comfortable for a chat, and the glassed-in patio perfect for setting up breakfast for 8, and barbecue too (it was a little rainy at night so couldn't hang out outside). The main kitchen is a galley kitchen, very well stocked with dishes and pans, coffee maker (and Betty left us coffee and half/half!) and a nice size fridge. It was a little tight for cooking but any mega-chefs can head over to the newer kitchen in the attached apartment.

The wood floors are amazing and must be "vintage" and the decor is homey and beach fun. We loved the half-mile walk to Point of Rocks beach where our dogs and kids played in the low tide sand for hours.

I highly recommend the place for a fall long weekend when dogs are allowed on the beach (banned May 1-October 1) and the place is quiet. Neighbors are fantastic and helped us find a runaway dog (oops) and were full of good mornings on our way to the beach.

Loved it. Will be back.

Ideal location and property to enjoy a a family vacation for 8-10 on Cape Cod.

  • 4 of 5

I was hesitant to book this property because it had no previous reviews. I was not disappointed that I did book it. We booked for 2 weeks with 6 adults and 3 children for one week and 3 more on one weekend, while most of the following week was just 2 of is in a quiet residential area off of Route 6A, so it truly felt like a home away from home. Brewster is one of the few towns on the Cape that feels like a place to live rather than a tourist/vacation destination. It is centrally located and easy driving distance (10-20 minutes) to the busier town of Orleans and Nauset Beach one of the best on the Cape and about 20-30 minutes to the National Seashore Visitor's Center. Access to a small quiet bay side beach is about a half mile from the property (a 5-15 minute walk down a quiet road, depending on your agility). This is not an "official" beach, so no life guard; parking is limited to about 4 vehicles and requires a permit from the town for daytime parking. Our family spent most of their time at this beach, wading , swimming, watching the sunset, and kayaking.

The property itself, though not completely private, was adequate for family gatherings and even outdoor games for the children. The house is tastefully furnished with a local flavor and a homey feeling. Each smallish kitchen, one in the apartment and one in the "cottage", is fully equipped. The only dining area is a picnic table on the enclosed porch and accommodates 8 people comfortably. There is an additional picnic table outside, so eating with a full house is a bit tricky. There is a small table in the apartment. the second floor of the apartment is a large comfortable bedroom and suite with and sitting area and small balcony. very nice. Nice large bedroom in the cottage also.

Though the building technically sleeps 12, it is comfortable and practical for 8 or 9. The loft is usable for older children or young adults who can handle the ladder. It is impossible to stand up straight , except in the center because of the slanted ceiling. The room with the full bed is small and stuffy and the mattress a bit slanted.

Spending a week there with 12 people is challenging and unrealistic though doable for a few days.

A plus is plenty of beach towels, chairs, pails for the kids, and even a couple of beach umbrellas provided as well as outdoor games for the kids.

The owner is local, available, pleasant and accommodating.

I would recommend this listing for a great family vacation.
