The peace and quiet of the Brushy Mountains that surround this cabin along with the comfortable, cozy cabin itself makes for an ideal get-away that offers rest, relaxation, and de-stressing. Unplug and get away from it all. Reconnect with yourself and those you love.
This cabin is located about an hour and a half northwest of Charlotte, near North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro, NC. It is situated high up on the mountain and has a beautiful mountain view. Please NOTE: The road up to the cabin is very steep in some places and requires a suitable vehicle that can climb a steep incline. The cabin is also an hour from Winston-Salem, and about 35 minutes from Boone and Appalachian State University. It is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Blowing Rock.
Several festivals occur close by throughout the year: Merle Fest in April, Chicken Fest on Memorial Day weekend, and the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival in October. Nearby Stone Mountain offers several hiking trails and tours of an old homestead. The New River is the perfect spot to canoe. Several local wineries offer tours, and there are many hiking trails nearby. Mountain biking and cycling is also very prevalent on and around the Brushy Mountains.
Come for a weekend, or a week and enjoy the wrap-around deck with an exhilarating view in all seasons. Have a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. The wood burning fireplace provides a cozy atmosphere on chilly nights. If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax and de-stress, this is it!!

We decided to buy this property because of the beautiful view on top of the mountain. It is very peaceful and relaxing. There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, including sightseeing, hiking, dining, canoeing, and much more. Or, if you just need a weekend get away, this is ideal! Hope you can come visit our cabin in the beautiful Brushy Mountains!
It is wonderful to experience nature and the beauty of the mountains. We also love being close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, wonderful mountain towns such as Boone, Blowing Rock, and West Jefferson. There is so much to do!! And, you can also just relax and do nothing.
A quiet retreat. We couldn't get over how quiet it was up there! Cabin has everything you need and comfy beds. Stayed at Sunyata when my husband and daughter hunted at some nearby property. Totally relaxing for me and the dog while they were out twice a day. I watched several movies (some provided, I also brought), read a book, did a couple puzzles and walked the woods. Left feeling totally relaxed. Stayed the week of Thanksgiving. The views are amazing and coming from noisy FL, we appreciated the quiet. Would stay at Sunyata again. Thank you Leslie!
I am late writing this review, we stayed here almost a year ago (Sep 2014). First off, the owner was great and friendly to communicate with. The cabin is very charming and cute. Wonderful views as well. We were looking for a very remote cabin and felt like this would set the bar high judging from the pictures and description. After the long exciting drive in we noticed as we pulled up there is another house the sets approx. 100 yards from the one pictured. We didn't realize or expect to see that, kinda surprised but happy it was vacant at that present time. We stayed for 2 nights, and had the mountain top to ourselves on night 1. It was very peaceful and the extra house wasn't an issue being it was vacant. The 2nd day the owner came up for a nights stay. Although she is very respectful of your privacy it would've been nice to of known of this ahead of time. You're close enough to see and hear each other so it wasn't the privacy we were looking for. If you are looking for total privacy, this would be nice to know. Otherwise it's a great place. Also, you can make this drive in a 2wd pickup no problem.
What an amazing trip! The cabin was everything we were looking for: a quiet retreat, a great place for entertaining our local friends, a fun place for the kids to just hang out, and surrounded by the beauty of the mountains. The swing was a huge hit with the kids as were the firefly hunts which just goes to prove preteens don't always need to have a screen in their faces to have fun! Our local friends loved the cabin and didn't even know it existed before our visit! Sure there were a few bugs and the driveway is VERY steep (some of the reviews state that 4WD is not needed and I would beg to differ as we had to trade vehicles with our local friends for the week to get to the top) but overall this is a wonderful place.
While you are in the area don't miss the Brushy Mountain Creamery for BBQ and amazing ice cream, Glenn's for old fashioned shakes, Stone Mountain State Park for an unusually beautiful hiking experience, Boone and Blowing Rock for all kinds of tourist fun, and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for some of the friendliest local folks you are likely to run across!
My husband and I recently spent the weekend here in early May and were SO blessed! The cabin location is very secluded and the view is completely amazing! We loved the cabin atmosphere and enjoyed some time by the fireplace, laying in the sun, swinging on the swing, and dancing under the loft to Cherry Bomb on the vintage record player :) This was a celebration weekend for us as we prepare to adopt to sisters- 7 and 8 y/o and also celebrating my husband graduating with his MSW. We hope to return some day with our daughters to celebrate our new family :) The only challenge we had was getting up the hill in our front wheel drive SUV, but my husband made it with some momentum and some prayers from me :) We felt the peace of the Lord in this wonderful place!
We had the pleasure of a return visit to the cabin this past April and it was even more wonderful than the first time. It is hard to adequately describe the relaxation and contentment that the views from the deck evoke. Seemingly endless views stretch to the horizon, hawks circle above the tree line riding thermals, and the wind moves through the high branches with whispers and roars. We were once again there for a music festival but find the cabin so compelling that we are just as inclined to hang out, pick tunes, and drink some cold beers there! We had the added pleasure of meeting Leslie and some friends this year. She is truly a delight and we look forward to renting from her in years to come. It is a wonderful and healing place. Don't forget the AWD for your vehicle. It is a steep but fun drive up!
This cabin was an amazing get away. Although we missed the snow, watching spring from a top the mountain was an incredible experience. We went hiking every day, picked daffodils, apple blossoms, mint and ramps. One tree swing was all three kids needed watching the season bloom all around. We couldn't figure out how to turn off the outside security light, so we watched the stars from the rear deck. We did have a 4 wheel drive, but did not turn on the 4x4 feature, and another small car, either a kia or a hundai made it up to speak with us about religion. It is a get a way, very limited cell phone reception,
