About the property

House 5 Bedrooms + Rec./Bunkroom, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

This unique home has a groomed ski-in/ski-out trail that runs along the side of the house. As Signature Members of the private Moonlight Club, including the Jack Nicklaus Signature Reserve Golf Course, we are excited to offer our tenants access to the Club – see Activities Section below. A single resort fee for the week that covers the whole family (from grandparents down to grandchildren) will allow you to access all that the Moonlight Basin Private Club has to offer. With the resort fee, you have access to Moonlight Lodge (located 1 mile form the house) including parking and use of our private ski locker (holds 5 sets of skis, boots and accessories). In the Lodge, you can secure a one-ride pass, per person, up the Iron Horse Chairlift from which you can access both Big Sky and Moonlight ski areas. (Actual lift tickets can be purchased from either of these locations but we recommend purchasing tickets online for the best rates.) Ski back to the Lodge, have lunch, leave all of your equipment in the private ski locker, enjoy a swim in the outdoor year-round heated pool and spa, gym, cocktails, après ski and/or dinner. You and the entire family may also enjoy all of the winter or summer activities (see below) at the private Ulery's Lake.

There are panoramic views of Lone Peak from throughout the house. You are welcomed by a large inviting entryway leading into an open floor plan that includes the spacious kitchen, dining, breakfast nook and living room. Unique architectural details abound including the circular loft with sitting area for card playing, puzzle making or other games. The curved stone wood-burning fireplace serves as the focal point in the living room.

Sitting on a gentle sloping 1.5-acre property in the exclusive Cascade Highlands, this sprawling 5-bedroom, 5-bath, 4400+ square foot home offers one-level living, with large windows in every room, a Cowboy Cauldron tripod fire pit on the back patio, a pond and recirculating stream (summertime) in the backyard, a large back patio with awesome mountain views, and horseshoe pits.

A new 2017 Hot Springs 7-person hot tub and a new six-person outdoor sauna installed in 2017 will delight our guests providing incredible relaxation and rejuvenation after a day on the slopes, or hiking or fishing or water rafting.

This exclusive retreat also has a large recreation/bunkroom, with a private bath, which can also function as a sixth bedroom, and is perfect for families with children. This large, kid-haven room (air hockey table) with 2 bunk beds and a dedicated full bath also has a large flat screen HDTV/Blu-ray DVD, Wii area and lots of games. The two-car garage also houses a quality ping pong table for everyone's enjoyment.

We have outfitted this beautiful home entirely with furnishings in an elegant, yet comfortable style including rustic bedroom sets, 8 flat-screen TVs, and a rustic wood dining table that seats 12 plus 4 more at a breakfast nook table and 3 at the kitchen bar. You will also love our spacious gourmet kitchen that is fully stocked and equipped with stainless steel appliances for the chefs in your group

We have furnished our mountain home for fun and comfort. Two of the bedrooms are appointed with the innovative Sleep Number, top-of-the-line, king mattresses to ensure the finest quality sleep and comfort.

Our quoted rates are for up to 12 people and do not include the optional resort fee. Add $25 per night for each additional guest. Posted rates assume a Saturday check-in. Weekly rentals only during high seasons (Saturday check in).

The location of this lovely home is your ideal vacation spot for both winter and summer activities. You can ski out right from our backdoor on a groomed trail to the White Otter Lift. A groomed trail brings you back to a late-afternoon in the spa, sauna and house. Fantastic property for skiing with large group at Big Sky

  • 5 of 5

Highly Recommend. We were 5 couples for 1 week and 9 adult family members the 2nd week

What was great about this house?

1. Skiing from this house is fabulous. See more below about skiing out (very good), skiing in (possible but not so good), and skiing in and/or out from moonlight club (excellent). Great ski and boot storage in rec room, 3 steps from ski in ski out trail.

2. Kitchen was great. One of best ever we have had in a rental. We cooked in on 11 nights. Kitchen is very large and allows 5/6 people to be working at the same time. Nice bar for 3 more people. Very well equipped-- cooking equipment, spices and much more. 2 refrigs.

3. Great hot tub. Used it everyday. Many times we had 6/7 people.

4. Wonderful bedrooms. All 5 had king sized beds! Large windows with views. Plus rec room had 4 more beds including 2 doubles. Bedrooms very private. House a on one floor-- no noise disturbed early sleepers/ late risers. Only 2 have en suite bathrooms, one has bath down the hall, & 2 share a bath. 5th bath in rec room.

5. Wonderful 10 person dining room table.

6. Excellent wifi.

7. Good fireplace once you learn how to use it.

8. Great views of Lone Mountain and snow forest.

9. Homeowner, Janet, was extremely responsive to all of our requests.

10. Access to Moonlight Basin Club is an unbelievable benefit. 3 minutes away from the house. Great member parking 50 feet from club. Best place ever to buy lift tickets. Large locker comes with the house. Great for lunch & after skiing drinks.

11. Radiant heated floors--kept us toasty

More on ski out/ski in. Options below. We did them all with experienced skiers.

1. Ski out is extremely easy. Ski trail is 3 steps out back door of rec room. 2 to 3 minutes to White Otter lift (4 to 5 minutes lift ride) which takes you above mountain village. From there you ski 2 to 3 minutes to main base area. Make sure to take quick right off trail to avoid slow explorer lift.

Caution: be careful when you cross the residential road(s)on way to & from slopes. One day trail was partially blocked by snow by plow. Another day snow plow cleared road to bare surface

2. Ski in is possible --not easy. Worse on powder days with soft snow.

3. Drop car at Moonlight Club and ski out and ski back to Moonlight

4. Ski out and have driver pick you up at Moonlight Club or Mountain Base

5. Drive to Moonlight. Ski out and Ski in and leave skis overnight in locker

Wonderful Home in Big Sky

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family (college age to nearing retirement) had a marvelous summer week together in this little piece of paradise in the Big Sky area. The owners were very responsive to questions and helped us plan our schedule to make the most of our time. Their suggestions on restaurants, activities, shopping, and even a photographer for a family portrait were all spot on. We made two day trips to Yellowstone, did fly fishing and rafting outings on the Gallatin River, hiked many nearby trails, had wonderful meals at the Gallatin Riverhouse and Buck T's, and had lots of other fun. The house itself is very well equipped and everything is clearly labeled--the most organized place we've ever rented. The property is beautiful and restful; the view of Lone Peak from the back patio is nearly worth the rental in and of itself. We arranged some of our activities through the Moonlight Club and were pleased with their service; if we were doing it again, we would start the planning on those activities sooner to get the maximum benefit from the club. We have already recommended the property to friends if they are looking for a Montana getaway and hope to be able to return ourselves in the future. This is truly a gem!

Home Sweet Home

  • 5 of 5

This rental will quickly feel like your home away from home. We were a group of 12 that included three generations. We created some awesome memories.

Coming from a Type A personality, I was impressed at how organized and clean this home was. Kitchen cupboards were clearly labeled as were the bedroom dressers. We didn't need to look long for anything.

Also impressive was how stocked this place was. We have never been to a place that had these many small appliances, kitchen gadgets, and cooking tools. Also, the available spices came in very handy.

There were plenty of towels and basic supplies in each bathroom and a separate set of towels for the hot tub. The hot tub itself worked great and provided amazing views.

We took advantage of everything this place had to offer. While we heard of Big Sky's great restaurants, we didn't venture out after a great day on the slopes. The massive dining table and BBQ were all we needed.

The only caveat to this amazing place is that while it is a true ski out (seriously the cutest trail to get to the lift), the ski in route is a difficult task. The drive from the house to the main ski base though is only five minutes. And truthfully, that short drive was a welcomed treat after a long day.

If you take a short stroll to the end of the road, there's an amazing view of the town below, which is exceptionally beautiful at night. I can only imagine how incredible this place would be during the rest of the year. We were fortunate though to take in the splendour of the mountains during the winter... There is literally nothing blocking your view.

Owner's Response: Thank you Heidi for the review. We use our home often and usually with our own very large family (3 married children with 9 grandchildren). Therefore we stock the house with everything that we would like to have ourselves. It gives us a great deal of pleasure to be able to share this wonderful home with other nice families such as yours.

Phenomenol Home - Love the Moonlight Membership perks

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a fantastic week in Swift Bear Retreat and this is truly a fantastic home. The layout suited our five couple group very well and we had room left over if we want to bring kids in the future. The kitchen is perfect for group gathering and well stocked for cooking. The ski in/ski out is a bit cumbersome, especially if there is a little bit of warm weather and the snow melts off the streets. However, the big perk is the owner's membership to the Moonlight Basin Club includes their rental guests. We drove to the private parking lot a mile away and left our equipment in the locker each night. Very easy this way.

Overall, the house is five star all the way. Just take the owner's advice and use the Moonlight Basin Lodge as your starting and stopping point and skip the ski-in/out issues.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you and your group enjoyed the house so much. Our very large family enjoys all the space and extras as well. The ski-in can be a bit of a concern, especially towards the end of the season as the weather warms. Ski out, however is very easy as we have the ski groomer make a special very short "spur" from the main trail directly to our house. We are also gratified that you found the unique membership to Moonlight Basin Lodge and our ski locker to be so efficient and special.

NOT ski in, ski out

  • 3 of 5

The house is amazing and has everything you need for a week of skiing. However, it is NOT ski in/ski out.

You can make it out ok, but you must cross roads and to me that is not cool. As for getting back, its pure torture! We did it the first day and it was horrible, made our day go from awesome to extreme anger!

Now we drive to the moonlight basin and park every day. Thank goodness we didn't bring the kids, because they would have never made it back to the house. I really think it should not be advertised as ski in/out!

Owner's Response: We are very pleased that you found our home so “amazing and everything you need for a week of skiing” We are also sorry that you were so frustrated with the ski-out. Unfortunately, for some reason, you must have missed the groomed trail right out of the back door (by the hot tub) of the house. When taking the groomed trail there are no roads to cross when skiing out. The groomed trail, that we pay extra to have brought right to the spa of our home, goes through a very large culvert that proceeds under Lone Mountain Trail and then directly to the White Otter chairlift. Therefore, there is no need to cross any road. Given the unseasonably warm weather, the trail may have been a little difficult to follow. The ski-in is challenging (flat) for a few hundred feet for some skiers and that is why we offer all our guests access to the exclusive, private Moonlight Basin Lodge with members-only parking passes. The Lodge offers a no line lift ticket purchasing desk, our private ski locker (holds six pairs of skis, boots, clothing, helmets, etc), dining, access to the outdoor pool and spa, and the fitness center. As you can see by reading over three years (37) reviews (all five star), our guests have truly enjoyed the house, its views, the personal attention from the owners; as well as the amenities of the Moonlight Basin private club. In fact, many of our guests are repeat visitors. We are gratified that Greg M, the leader of your group who rented our home, was very pleased as can be seen by his review. We only wish we would have known of your frustration at the time so that we could have helped you address the confusion with the trails. We are always available (almost always respond within minutes) to our guests during their stay to address any issue that may arise.
