Experience ranch living in a nicely appointed, very private stone cabin
Los Madrones, a private ranch in western Travis County, in Central Texas, offers visitors the opportunity to 'rent-a-ranch' for a while, for nature photography, birding, or just relaxing. The 400-acre property features limestone bluffs, Little Bee Creek, open pastures, and hilltop vistas stretching past the Colorado River. Ranch owners Julie and Mike Murphy converted the property to wildlife conservation in 2000, and have managed it since then to improve habitat for turkey, quail, and other species.
Four or five pairs of Golden-cheeked warblers nest on the property every spring; and with luck, ranch visitors may observe and photograph this endangered species.

A peaceful retreat
Our stay at this beautiful ranch was a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of our jobs. It is located a short drive from the city and especially close to two major parks, not to mention local winerys. Mike gave us a brief history of the area and also provided us with recommendations on local sites and restaurants ( Carmela's Italian restaurant, just 1/2 mile from the gate had the best Cabrese salad and the lasagna was outstanding!). The cabin was the perfect size for two and was very relaxing. We were awakened each morning by the singing of birds. We hope to visit again very soon. Mick and Trish from Azle...
We're very glad y'all enjoyed your stay! And your timing proved perfect, as the hill country displayed beautiful spring beginnings. We hope to see you here again, soon.

Perfect atmosphere ,beautiful land
We got to enjoy life's simple pleasures. It was quaint and we enjoyed relaxing and unplugging. The tour of the property was educational and fun. We hiked to the waterfall on the property. Beautiful. We will tell family and friends to stay here. Very hospitable and made our stay a perfect one. Thank you.
Great weekend retreat
Mike & Julie have a beautiful ranch with cozy accommodations all within close proximity to Austin.
Really cute and relaxing cabin
This is a place to go and relax. The cabin is the perfect size for two people and it is kept really clean and well. The only drawback was that the gas stove was not connected so we couldn't use it, but the owner said he will be soon installing an electric stove...Perfect place to sit and listen to the birds and recharge your energy back. We loved it!
We loved this rental! It’s quiet and serene and set in nature yet a fairly quick drive to stores and restaurants in Bee Cave and surrounding towns. We enjoyed meeting Mike as he came over to greet us and chat for a bit. The kitchen had everything we needed and the refrigerator had cold bottled water for us to use. We wanted to explore the area more and will definitely return.
Great Time In The Hill Country
Loved the setting. Located on a property in the Hill Country. The casita is part of the overall property. The property seems to go on for miles. The amenities were great. The only drawback is the bed and futon. Wife and I had a hard time sleeping in our normal sleep pattern. Our kids slept fine. Enjoyed the howling coyotes.
I'm very glad y'all enjoyed your ranch experience! Sorry to learn of the bed/futon dissatisfaction, though. We've been making slow improvements as we can afford them, and I just ordered a new custom queen bed to match existing antique oak furniture. And, we'll be looking to replace futon with a sleeper sofa.
Please consider us again when these new improvements arrive early next year!
Other Activities: rock climbing & mountain biking is 4 miles away at Reimer's Ranch, a county park.
