Overview

About the property

Experience ranch living in a nicely appointed, very private stone cabin

Los Madrones, a private ranch in western Travis County, in Central Texas, offers visitors the opportunity to 'rent-a-ranch' for a while, for nature photography, birding, or just relaxing. The 400-acre property features limestone bluffs, Little Bee Creek, open pastures, and hilltop vistas stretching past the Colorado River. Ranch owners Julie and Mike Murphy converted the property to wildlife conservation in 2000, and have managed it since then to improve habitat for turkey, quail, and other species.

Four or five pairs of Golden-cheeked warblers nest on the property every spring; and with luck, ranch visitors may observe and photograph this endangered species.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Truly awesome experience, it's hard to imagine that Los Madrones is only 25 miles from Austin yet a world away in terms of peace and quiet. The Casita is beautiful and the ranch is ripe for exploration. Thanks for your hospitality! I enjoyed every minute.

A peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this beautiful ranch was a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of our jobs. It is located a short drive from the city and especially close to two major parks, not to mention local winerys. Mike gave us a brief history of the area and also provided us with recommendations on local sites and restaurants ( Carmela's Italian restaurant, just 1/2 mile from the gate had the best Cabrese salad and the lasagna was outstanding!). The cabin was the perfect size for two and was very relaxing. We were awakened each morning by the singing of birds. We hope to visit again very soon. Mick and Trish from Azle...

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this rental! It’s quiet and serene and set in nature yet a fairly quick drive to stores and restaurants in Bee Cave and surrounding towns. We enjoyed meeting Mike as he came over to greet us and chat for a bit. The kitchen had everything we needed and the refrigerator had cold bottled water for us to use. We wanted to explore the area more and will definitely return.

Great Time In The Hill Country

  • 4 of 5

Loved the setting. Located on a property in the Hill Country. The casita is part of the overall property. The property seems to go on for miles. The amenities were great. The only drawback is the bed and futon. Wife and I had a hard time sleeping in our normal sleep pattern. Our kids slept fine. Enjoyed the howling coyotes.

Owner's Response: I'm very glad y'all enjoyed your ranch experience! Sorry to learn of the bed/futon dissatisfaction, though. We've been making slow improvements as we can afford them, and I just ordered a new custom queen bed to match existing antique oak furniture. And, we'll be looking to replace futon with a sleeper sofa. Please consider us again when these new improvements arrive early next year!

Beautiful and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I rented the Casita. The house is very nice and comfortable. The property is beautiful and very peaceful we really enjoyed exploring the property and just sitting outside relaxing. Mike was very nice and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay again in the future.

Peaceful and Serene

  • 5 of 5

We went for my birthday weekend getaway to relax and recharge. This place was a perfect setting for that; fresh air and the sounds of birds singing in the morning were a nice break from the usual sounds we hear. Weather was awesome with warm days and cool nights. Mike and Julie were very gracious hosts. We will def be back!
