About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-6)

Enjoy this charming cottage located in a quiet, wooded neighborhood two miles east of Julian's historic township. Our vacation home sits on a spacious, corner lot that has a circular driveway and many mature oak, pine, and cedar trees.

The interior of Cathleen's Country Cottage includes newer hardwood flooring throughout the bedroom, kitchen, dining and living room areas. Our cottage-style windows overlook our surrounding trees. Our cottage is attractively furnished with newer, comfortable pieces that include a queen-size bed in the bedroom, two full-size sleeping futons in the living room, and a single-size sofa sleeper. Our farmhouse-style dining room furniture seats up to six people. We provide firewood for the living room's wood-burning stove. Our cheerful kitchen is equipped with dishes, flatware, and cooking ware. This cottage has air-conditioning, electric heating in each living area and ceiling fans. We provide wireless Internet service and satellite television.

Pet dogs may stay inside the cottage with their owners. Pet dogs may stay with prior approval of the property owner. This vacation home has large, fenced areas to exercise pet dogs on our large, wooded property.

There is plenty of private parking on the property that includes space for recreational vehicles.

You can use the roomy front deck for outside dining, barbecuing, star-gazing, bird-watching, and waving to friendly neighbors who are taking their daily strolls or riding their bicycles. Our trees house many birds, and capture the sounds of beautiful, mountain breezes. You may be visited by our animal neighbors that include turkeys, raccoons, deer, bobcats, and foxes.

This is a great getaway cottage where you can relax and feel that you are really on vacation!

Quiet Family Getaway - very nice

  • 5 of 5

We were there from a Saturday (a little before 2) to a Monday just shy of 11. Below are some thoughts about our stay in no particular order.

1. Bed/s - only 1 traditional bed (queen) in the bedroom. It was comfortable (for reference - we typically like pretty hard beds and our backs feel it if it's old and soft). PLENTY of blankets and towels (thank you!). One of my girls was on the twin pull out sofa and said it was fine and the other stayed on one of the fold out futons and thought it was fine. They have a lot of bedding and it was hard to find which was for the twin but that's a minor thing.

2. Kitchen - clean with enough plates/cups, etc. We didn't cook much so I can't comment on how well it was supplied. Lots of left-over ground coffee from previous guests but we didn't use it.

3. Smell - My hubs was a little nervous since it's a dog-friendly place that there would be lots of dog hair/smell around (we don't have dogs) but were happy to see that it was clean and smelled fine/nutral.

4. Owners - owner contacted me prior to coming to let me know how to get the key. Very friendly. Our interaction was minimal but when I texted her a question on the last day she responded promptly.

Other random thoughts - this is a little suburb so it's not easy to walk into town and if there are nearby trail heads we didn't find them (didn't look hard). For us - family time w/expectation of driving to 'events' and no need for country view - this was fine. Our kids are 4 - 14 and the place was appropriate for it. Only thing I would want different is to have blinds or something in front room so that they could be darkened a bit for those sleeping where the majority of the beds are and not so visible to those outside (though it's just my paranoia as the windows are above street level). Wood burning fireplace (stove?) put out a lot of heat and relatively easy to use. Didn't use the TV/Wifi so no feedback on that. Seems like a cool place for little ones when there is some snow on the ground since yard is fenced in and has a little slope to it.

Uncomfortable bed and couches but nice surroundings

  • 2 of 5

We loved the setting and all the trees around the property. It is a small cabin that needs refreshing. We enjoyed being able to be together away from our daily life for our 50th anniversary. But we had several disappointments. The first impression coming in the door was disappointing. The charm that could be there just wasn't. The cabin is old and looked it. The paint job was poorly thought out. Everything was one color which took away from its natural charm. The two couches were evidently make-able into beds and were not usable as couches. They looked usable but were terribly uncomfortable and way too low to get out of without a struggle. So we used the love seat on the other wall. The bed is old and way too soft. Our back told us about that. The bedroom dresser was filled with bedding making it unusable for guests to use.

The yard is well fenced which made it great for our little dog. She enjoyed sniffing all the new smells. Also the view of the sky was clear so we were able to see the milky way for the 1st time in a long time.

We did check to see if we could stay longer because we didn't want to go home yet, but it was booked. That being said we won't book it again. I am sure we can find a better place in the area for our next trip.

Owner's Response: We appreciate constructive criticism. We have found that different rental guests have various tastes regarding interior design and color. Our cottage is very clean, and is a very convenient place to stay for families with children and pets. We are located in a wooded, Julian neighborhood that is within two miles of Julian's historic town. I am happy that the majority of our guests have found the accommodations to be very convenient and comfortable.

The cottage is cozy and warm. The furnishings are ample for a couple and their pets. The amenities are as listed. The cottage was very easy to locate and close to Julian Ca. We would stay here again. 👍🏻

The landlord was wonderful and made sure the cottage was clean and comfortable prior to our arrival. She made the booking process very smooth.

Nice Cottage

This home was very cozy. It is in a good location, close to town. Being that I have a small dog I liked that it was completely fenced. Had a wonderful time.
