Why Osvaldo Gervasi chose Spello
House Maddalena is located in the same very old and big Palace where we live in a very large apartment, where 3 rooms and a large living room are finely decorated with frescos of the eighteenth century. Spello is a wonderful town to live, where our parents and relatives are also living.
What makes this Apartment unique
Nice countryside view, quite location, few meters from the Pintoricchio's frescos located in Capella Baglioni, in the S. Maria Maggiore church.

Excellent Location and hosts
My husband and I spent one week at this apartment in Spello.
It is a perfect location for visiting Umbria as well as many towns
In Tuscany. It is clean, well stocked with everything needed for an
enjoyable stay. Upon our arrival, the owner, Osvaldo, met us at a nearby piazza to help us easily find the apartment. When we arrived there was a bottle of organic wine waiting for us, as well as fruit, coffee, tea and their
Own extra virgin olive oil, etc. this apartment is ideally situated right in the old town of Spello, making it easy to walk to restaurants, enotecas, gift shops and all the interesting sights. We cannot say enough about the owner. He was extremely responsive to every question or concern we might have. We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment in lovely little Spello.
Not quite as advertised
Location is good, apartment is clean. Hot water only lasts about one minute which makes washing hair deeply unpleasant. Washer did not drain so had to wring out laundry. Also BEWARE very very loud music until 2 a.m. on two out of five nights. Caution regarding parking, we had to figure it out by guessing.
Ideal location & comfortable apartment
We enjoyed the stay a Maddelana House where our host Osvaldo made us most welcomed. He picked us up from the train station & explained the workings of the apartment. There were a good range of condiments & even some wine provided. While a small number of items needed some attention these were prompted sorted. We would highly recommend a stay here in what us a beautiful village.
It was a great pleasure meeting you. Thanks so much for your kind words.
Great spot in Spello
Excellent central apartment in Spello. Only 10-15 minute walk from the train station. The owners son and daughter run a pub in the same building serving excellent burgers and good beers on tap. Can’t go wrong staying here
It was a really great pleasure meeting you! Thanks a lot!
Words are insufficient to describe this gem.
Our time in Spello was unforgettable, beginning with the warm, hospitable welcome by Osvaldo, who met us at the entrance to the historic town.
Historic Spello is an ancient, walled city, and our rental was conveniently nestled inside the city walls - a real treat! In the morning we awoke to sunlight peaking thru our bedroom windows, and in the evenings, we enjoyed our home-prepared meals watching dusk fall over the Umbrian hillsides from our balcony - heavenly!
Our days were spent meandering down the narrow cobblestone streets that made us feel like we were part of an historic Italian movie. The town merchants are all residents of the village, who seemingly know one another ( and everyone else in town) yet are very hospitable and welcoming - we were accepted as part of the town, and rarely felt like tourists, even though we stayed in Spello over an Italian National holiday, that brought many Italian families to town. You know a place is good, when the locals choose to spend their days off, as tourists!
The entire town is walkable, and the Umbrian hillsides, views of neighboring cities in the distance, and agricultural crops abundantly growing, mesmerized us.
While some might find the infrequent sounds of children in the apartment upstairs to be an issue, we found it to be charming, because it was not continual, but rather it reminded us that we were part of a family community, and not guests at a hotel. I wouuldn't have wanted it any other way.
We enjoyed long, leisurely lunches and dinners in town, talking with the restaurant owners. Their pride in their work showed in every bite of delicious food we ate.
I could go on forever, writing about Spello, and the perfect home away from home Osvaldo provided, but I will end on a short note -- our very short walk home after dinner, was the perfect punctuation to our perfect days. What more could one ask for? We will definitely be back!!!
Spello was a wonderful surprise!
This apartment is a gem in a truly wonderful little town. We arrived on a drizzly evening and the owner met us at the main square and drove in the car with us so it was no problem to find the apartment. The place is atmospheric and gorgeous. The other units seem to have locals living in them which makes it even nicer. The actual apartment has really lovely mosaic floors, a large bedroom, a large bathroom, a comfortable living room with a nice sofa bed our college student son happily slept on and a lovely balcony. Although it was cold and rainy we couldn't let the balcony go to waste so we stood outside and enjoyed a glass of wine! And Spello itself is a great base to explore the area from - far less touristy than Assissi. Really recommend this place.
The apartment is located inside the roman walls of Spello, named by the emperor Costantino 'Splendidissima Colonia Julia'. Spello is one of the major attractions in Italy, testimonial of the roman and medieval age, with its narrow streets (named 'vicoli'), the Pintoricchio's frescos of Cappella Baglioni and the uniqueness of its landscape, with the Subasio mountain and the olive trees.
