The property is located in one of the Chiltern Hills most beautiful valleys in a quiet rural setting. Originally built as a wing to spectacular 18th Century barns, the stables have been converted to a very high standard, retaining many of the original features. Well equipped, the property provides comfort & convenience whilst enjoying privacy in its own walled courtyard with vines and colourful plants.The setting is rural and peaceful with our ducks and chickens wandering freely.

The area is a walker’s paradise with the famous Ridgeway nearby for the serious or several delightful walks on the doorstep for the more casual. Also popular with cyclists.

Excellent base for touring the ancient Thames-side towns of Henley, Wallingford, Dorchester & Abingdon all within a few miles. Oxford (c12 miles), Windsor (c24 miles), London (c45 miles), Stratford Upon Avon (c48 miles), Cotswolds (c25miles). Close to rail links to London & West country, 10 miles from M4 & M40, Heathrow 28 miles. Horse riding, golf, boat hire available locally.

Although centrally heated there is also a log burning stove for cosy evenings in Autumn or Winter. (Logs are provided free of charge) The Staircase to the upstairs bedroom is quite steep and elderly or infirm people may find this a problem. Children love the upstairs bedroom which has its own TV and video/DVD player. Stair gates are available.The other bedroom is downstairs and is easily accessible and has its own ensuite bathroom.We provide some local guides and maps and dozens of leaflets on places of interest. We also provide a number of videos, hopefully with something of interest for everyone. For Mobile Phone Usage - Please be advised that as of October 2013, the Orange/TMobile network is not accessible inside the cottage. All other networks are fine.

We have really enjoyed our stay here, the house is very comfortable in a nice and quiet area and Jenny is the best!

An amazing new experience

Hosts Jenny and Robert were hospitable, friendly and helpful - respecting privacy but always happy to answer questions and make suggestions about the area. The Stables were clean, comfortable and secure. There was nothing we needed that was not provided. This is a wonderful base from which to explore Oxford, Bath, Henley, Reading and surrounding villages with east access to London. The local area is fascinating with great walking trails and a very cosy local pub - with great food! We have recommended The Old Stables to a number of our friends since returning home.

For a couple that enjoys the English countryside and walking "public footpaths", this is ideal.

The property is well-maintained and stocked with all one needs for a comfortable stay in the country. The owners are friendly and attentive. They have compiled a very useful binder of walks and local attractions. The area is blessed with walks, many of which comprise a pub or two. For eating pub lunches be sure to arrive before 2pm after which time many stop their food service.

Cute, tranquil, cozy

Charming cottage-like feel. Well-appointed kitchen, lovely lovely garden, even in September. Easy access to Oxford, Henley and surrounding areas. Jenny was a charming and helpful hostess. I would not hesitate to come back any time of year given the wood-burning stove and cozy factor. Only caveat is the stairs to second bedroom. Alternating steps would be tricky for the very young or very old. Otherwise, the upstairs is as well-designed as down, with comfy beds, good drawer and cupboard storage. Good bath and shower options - hot water and pressure more than adequate.

We enjoyed day trips to Oxford, Henley, Blenheim with multiple choices for groceries. All in all, I would recommend for a couple plus teens or a group of friends.

The cottage is located in an area designated as of outstanding natural beauty. Our visitors find the cottage an ideal base for exploring the rich history in the area, and trips to London, the Cotswolds,and Shakespeare country.
