Welcome to Thalassa Point, an adult orientated two acre gated and fenced waterfront estate in the charming rural community of North Saanich, a suburb of Greater Victoria. Although the bustling Capital City is about 25 minutes away, and the quaint seaside town of 'Sidney By The Sea', the BC Ferries Terminal and the Victoria International Airport are all a short 10 minute drive, the ambience of Thalassa Point is one of peace and tranquility.

We are located on the north west corner of the Saanich Peninsula, adjacent to beautiful Deep Cove and considered the 'warm' side of the Peninsula. The property boasts 350 feet of low bank water frontage with south west to north east panoramic views and spectacular YEAR ROUND SUNSETS.

Thalassa Point is truly a 'special property', uniquely situated in one of the finest neighbourhoods on the Saanich Peninsula, boasting the best possible exposure in a very quiet and peaceful location,and with those endless sunsets.......please read some of our reviews to get a sense of this beautiful oasis. Further,we offer an extremely well furnished and equipped vacation home and we most certainly strive to provide an upscale experience to our guests....a definite step above what most other vacation rental properties offer!

Although there are two executive homes on the property, and the owners periodically occupy one of them, privacy is enjoyed by both. The recently renovated 3,000 square foot home offers amazing views from most rooms. There are 3 ensuite bedrooms, two with king size beds, and one with a queen size, plus an additional half bath. The master ensuite bathroom is a six piece, including a bidet, and shares the awesome views that most other rooms enjoy. All bedrooms are equipped with LCD TVs. Hardwood floors, granite counters, and CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING for year round comfort are additional features of the home.

The property is heavily treed and the feeling one has is of living in a peaceful forest setting on the ocean's edge. Wildlife abounds as well as a myriad of marine life (including occasional sightings of Orcas...Killer Whales) and the adjacent waters are a favorite fishing ground for locals and tourists alike.

There are a wealth of activities in close proximity to Thalassa Point, including world famous 'The Butchart Gardens', a leisurely 20 minute journey down country roads. All this and much more are sure to make your stay at Thalassa Point a memorable one!

We ask that you please check our availability calendar and rental rates before contacting us and be aware of our policies regarding smoking and pets .... ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING in the home AND on the property (THALASSA POINT CATERS TO NON SMOKERS ONLY) and NO PETS in the home or on the property....with no exceptions. Please note that, due to the topography of Thalassa Point and the decor and layout of the residence, we are unable to rent to guests with children under the age of eighteen. Also please note that Thalassa Point might not be a suitable choice for elderly/infirm guests or individuals with mobility issues. Please refer to 'Suitability' below for more details on these restrictions.

A further note about suitability; Thalassa Point is a large property with beautiful gardens that the Owners painstakingly maintain. By late winter, as life is slowly returning to our gardens, a cleanup/pruning process begins that is somewhat labour intensive. Additionally, there are normally other tasks performed during this period.... soil amendment, plant replacement and relocation, etc. This is an approximately four to six week process, the Owners will be more visible onsite and noise can occasionally be a factor. We try very hard to maintain maximum privacy and also minimum noise when guests are on the Property, but this is not always possible. However we do extend our lower Winter rates until April 30th in an attempt to compensate for these increased activities.

About Robert Gaynor

I have spent most of my adult working life in West Vancouver (a suburb of Vancouver, BC's largest city) and enjoy the 'West Coast lifestyle' immensely. We have owned boats, large ones and small ones, for many years and have taken many cruises through the Gulf and San Juan Islands. This area represents some of the best pleasure boating on the Continent. It was because of these adventures that we found and fell in love with the Saanich Peninsula. Although we still keep a Townhome in West Vancouver, we find ourselves drawn more and more to our Island property.

Why Robert Gaynor chose Vancouver Island

Although the Saanich Peninsula has many waterfront properties, not many have the unique ambience of Thalassa Point. The east side of the Peninsula is affected in the summertime by cooling winds that blow in from the open ocean through Juan de Fuca Strait and up Haro Strait...and of course there are no sunsets to enjoy. The north side tends to be dark. Thalassa Point enjoys summer warmth and plenty of light, and of course those amazing sunsets. All this and more attracted us to this unique location. However the property came with two homes and hence we now find ourselves in the unanticipated position of owning a vacation rental.

What makes this house unique

What I think we both most enjoy about Thalassa Point is the feeling of serenity in this most beautiful place. The property is heavily treed with tall stately Firs and majestic Arbutus (Madronas or Madrones) and is narrow at the road and wide at the oceanfront (pie shaped). The home is accessed by a 300+ foot driveway and the feeling is that of being in the middle of the forest with awesome ocean and mountain views all around. The sounds and smells are only of the ocean and the forest. Although the neighbourhood is quite rural, most anything one would ever need can be found in the quaint village of 'Sidney by the Sea' some 10 minutes away. However, if one is in need of a big city 'fix', there is none more beautiful than Victoria with its charming English flavour...and it's an enjoyable 25 minutes or so away.

Hello Robert - I was going to send you a note as soon as I caught up from my week vacation to let you know what a wonderful place you have created. We loved the house, the property, and the location! We treated the house as we would our own, probably even a bit more conscientious since it was so immaculate. We used the garage as our entrance and left our shoes there and it worked out great.



Greg and I stayed downstairs and Blair and Jacki in the upstairs master. It gave us a nice separation for personal space. The house was very comfortable and we all loved sitting in the living room with a fire in the evenings or looking out the window with a cup of coffee in the morning. Your grounds are just beautiful. We saw bald eagle, seal, an otter (on the lower grass) and two fawns chasing each other around the yard. We walked up the road, hiked in Horth Park, walked the sea walk in Sidney, drove to Sooke and walked out Whiffen Spit, drove up the coast as far as Duncan meandering through the Cowiche & Maple Bay and toured the BC Royal Museum. We stayed at the house most of Sunday, just to enjoy it, then went to dinner at the Chalet Sunday night where we had a nice conversation with your neighbors the Drakes (introduced to us by our hostess who we had a nice conversation with as well). We hated leaving on Monday - we felt at home immediately and all of your personal touches gave it that feeling - thank you for sharing and hopefully we will see you again in the future - Beverly

Simply The Best!

Our visit to Thalassa Point, Vancouver Island was a very special occasion. Meeting up with a sister who was celebrating her 90th birthday, a sister we had not seen since 1977. Being such a special trip, we wanted every thing to be as perfect as could be. We spent many many hours on the internet looking for accommodation that was suitable for all our needs. In our case, accommodation for my wife and I and two of my sisters from the UK. When we found Thalassa Point property, it ticked all the boxes, all the reviews were excellent and location perfect. From the moment we were greeted at the property by one of the owners (Robert) and shown through the house explaining the operations of equipment and where items were stored, we knew we had hit the jackpot. This property is absolutely fantastic in every way, from the beautiful gardens which you can meander through, the kitchen equipment, crockery and glassware to eat and drink with, the furnishings and furniture to sleep and relax in and the three bedrooms with all necessary toiletries and body creams. The main bedroom is brilliant with spectacular views. The main deck leading from one of the lounges overlooks the waterway and mountain ranges and it is absolutely delightful to end a busy day with a drink in hand, music in the background, watching the setting sun whilst discussing the day's activities. I could go on and on talking about what is good about this property, but I will just close by saying all of us agreed, we have never stayed in accommodation that comes close to Thalassa Point. To the owners Robert and Mark, a big "Thank You" for making this property for all visitors and travelers a very special place to stay. We hope to visit with you again and perhaps share a glass of wine or two.

Quintessential Vacation Home

Thalassa Point more than exceeded our expectations. I read all of the reviews and talked with one of the owners and was just hoping the place was close to what the pictures portrayed. The pictures couldn't fully portray how beautiful this place is. The manicured grounds are absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained.

We happened to spot some otters playing in the water by the dock and a raccoon gingerly making his way to the top of one of the trees.

I was so glad I chose Thalassa Point over a place in Victoria because the weather is quite different where this is located. It would be very windy in Victoria and calm at Thalassa Point. We had some magnificent sunsets during our two week stay.

Our hosts thought of everything. It was like stepping into one's own home. Complete with comfortable beds, bathrobes, great showers, a variety of body soaps, shampoos and conditioners, the guest quarters were perfect. With TVs in every bedroom, along with two more in entertainment areas (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs), plus a wireless printer available for our use, our entertainment and technology needs were fully met. There were also plenty of dishes, pots and pans and utensils for our use in the kitchen.

Our hosts, Rob & Mark were outstanding. You can tell they have put a lot of hard work and care into creating such beautiful grounds and an exquisite home for their guests.

If you want to come for a wild weekend experience, this is not the place. But if you're looking for peace, relaxation and beautiful sunsets then this is where I would recommend. I've already booked our return trip for next year. Thank you Rob and Mark for sharing your home with us. It was truly magnificent and we certainly enjoyed spending time getting to know you two.

So much more than a rental...

With so many well-deserved five star reviews, there is little we can add other than to 110% validate all of the positive comments from the many reviewers. We want to try to convey the ways that this home felt like "so much more than a rental": first, there is nothing in or around the house that is of "rental quality" - all of the furnishings, kitchen supplies, linens, gardens, electronics etc are things you would buy yourself for yourself (if you had the taste and the funds). We truly could not identify a single item we needed that was not present. The personal touch from the gracious and charming owners felt like being invited to stay with friends, if you have non-intrusive friends who leave you to your own business. The setting is ideal - a mile or less from a winery, a gourmet market, and two good restaurants. It is a few minutes to the ferry for day trips to nearby islands, 10-15 minutes to Sidney, which was a surprisingly nice town with some great waterfront eating and drinking spots, and 19 miles to Victoria. And regarding the much-commented on sunsets - there were at least 3 nights during our stay where the view exceeded the one on the listing. We will be returning within the next year or two.

Sunsets to die for, in a home you wish you owned

When you travel quite a bit (as we do) and when you read reviews, especially consistently good reviews, there is always the question – are these real and accurate. From experience we can say, unfortunately places don’t always live up to the reviews. But having just spent nearly a month at Thalassa Point we understand why the ratings are exclusively a well deserved 5 of out 5. Great location, easy access to services yet remote and quiet – exactly what we were looking for. Other reviewers understandably highlight the attention to detail, the well equipped kitchen etc. All true – but the extras are so nice. Yes – there is a connector for music for your iPod/iPhone/iPad in the upstairs stereo. Yes – there is a wireless printer in the downstairs office (this was a working holiday for us). If needed, there is clear instructions for everything. And everything is new, or near new, clean and decorated with care and taste. This may be less of an issue for a night or weekend stay, but so nice for an extended stay. Add that our hosts (Robert & Mark) balanced friendliness, area insight etc with letting us maintain our privacy when we wanted was very appreciated. We have a few pictures of stunning sunsets over gardens that have a decade or more of planning and attention to remind us why we will be back.

A slice of heaven

We have rented more than two dozen homes in several countries. Over time we have identified characteristics that make a trip especially memorable: jaw-dropping views and sunsets; convenience to airports, shopping, sightseeing, and excellent restaurants; outstanding architecture; top-of-the-line furnishings and appointments in every room; fully integrated electronics where everything works seamlessly; manicured grounds and gardens; abundant wildlife; a night sky ablaze with stars; owners who exude warmth and hospitality and service; even access to excellent medical care.

We research extensively seeking several of these variables in one location. But never have we found them all at the same time, and in the same place – until we visited Thalassa Point.

I could write paragraphs to amplify these qualities. I could note that a vacation destination where our children and friends eagerly travel thousands of miles to visit us must have some exceptional ambiance.

Suffice it to say that wherever else our travels may take us, the one place on earth we will return to, every single year, is this extraordinary home.

A Most Extraordinary, Incredible, Fabulous Place!! 5 stars PLUS!

If you need a quick review without all the details, this place is FANTASTIC!! and our family hopes to return there again and again and again - as long as you appreciate beauty, serenity and incredible hosts, you will be positively, pleasantly, surprised at this most beautiful home. First, the house and property are immaculate, and while the online pictures are accurate, a camera simply cannot capture the expansive beauty of this place. Even after a week, we were still trying to taking it all in. We now understand why people want to rent this place a month at a time - it is gorgeous and so very peaceful. And the owners - how incredibly thoughtful, gracious, and kind they are - beyond being extraordinary people, they are the kind of people you would first delight at being neighbors with, and then soon develop into lifelong friends. Every bit of the home and property has been SO well thought out - we immediately described it as the "detail of Disney" with every view from the home, every bench, chair, table from which to enjoy the ocean, in an absolutely perfect spot. The house is equipped above and beyond with choices of pillows, ample sheets, towels, blankets, soap, paper goods - everything you will need and yet without any clutter. It makes the home so comfortable and easy to settle in to. If you like to cook at home, you will not only enjoy how very well equipped the kitchen is, but the beautiful ocean view deck you can enjoy your meals from! Since one of our greatest joys was watching the sunset from the dock or deck at Thalassa Point, we ate most of our meals at the home. We did go to Butchart Gardens, which is close by, and loved every moment there. The location of the home is so peaceful and serene - although we are "city-folk" and did swing into Victoria for a day, we preferred being in Sidney, - about 10 minutes away (took a whale watching trip from there) and being among the locals. We were able to walk (for exercise) directly from the home as the area is lovely and quiet without a lot of traffic. We did drive to Horth Hill, (5 minute drive) and Mount Douglas (20 min drive) to hike some local trails as well. Our hosts recommended Thrifty Grocery store and we concur - it was perfect. We truly cannot say enough about Thalassa Point and our experience there. It is the type of place where you will feel honored that they allowed you to stay in, and experience their treasure of a home! Blessings upon our hosts - you are AWESOME!! :)

Fishing off our dock has been known to produce results ( only available for use from May 01 until October 31). Whale watching adventure tours are a very popular activity, departing from nearby Sidney. And with some luck, one can even watch the Killer Whales (Orcas) from the comfort of the home or patio.

There is a fully restored antique Upright Grand piano in the family room for guests enjoyment. The home features a high quality security system to protect your possessions and ours. An 'ALL IN ONE' Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax Machine is part of our guest house 'home network' and is available for guest's use. There is also a wharf with ramp and floating dock on the property that can be used for fishing, boating or just relaxing...see accompanying photo. Due to weather conditions,the dock will not be available for guests use during the period November 01 - April 30
