Hi! this is Mario, your host. I was born in Peru but grew up in Southeast Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Also lived in London and back in South America before moving to the States. I received a BFA in Dance and Theater from the University of Florida and danced professionally in the US and Canada for some years. Moved to NYC in 2008 and live in the Lower East Side just blocks from this property. I split my time between managing a yoga studio, dancing and choreographing and running FOOD FOR LIFE, a community organization that serves meals to the hungry and homeless of Lower Manhattan at Tompkins Square Park. I’m also a member of M.I.L.E (Music Is Love Exchange) a network of artists that help disadvantaged children and families in the highlands of Guatemala and a Regional Coordinator in Peru for ONE BILLION RISING, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Mario Cornejo purchased this apartment in 2007

Fully equipped, comfortable, penthouse with a amazing view over NYC. Perfect location. The Staff was friendly, very courteous. The service provided was excellent.
The apartment had everything we needed for our recent stay. Great communication with the office and very smooth check-in / check-out process (inc. the kind offer to leave our bags until our flight - thanks!). The location is perfect; within easy reach of the Subway, local restaurants, parks, laundromat and shopping - we couldn't have asked for more. We would love to stay again!
The apartment was great! Super clean! The roof top terrace had wonderful views! Mario was great to work with! Easy walk to the subway. Great places to eat in the area. Love the East Village! We are already planning our next trip!
Best: Location, quiet area, cozy flat, beds
need slight improvement: some maintenance required for windows, an interim clean up for stays < 10 days would be appreciated
to be recommended: cost/quality ratio very good
I found this fantastic place through Airbnb and we were very happy with our choice to stay in this apartment, instead of a hotel. The booking procedure was very easy and I immediately had direct dialogue with the staff at Sanctuary, feeling in very safe hands and they were very helpful with any questions we had. Although we arrived at midnight we were met by a really nice man who helped us into the apartment and ensured that we settled in ok. The apartment was nice and clean and had all the amenities and facilities we needed. The roof top terasse was nice with amazing views overlooking Manhatten. The only thing to point out would be that some work could be done to the terrasse to make it a bit cleaner and more comfertable to use. The street is very nice and quiet and the area fantastic with lots of great restaurants and cafes just around the corner. We would absolutely come and stay here again, on our next trip to NYC! Last but not least, we joined the team at Sanctuary on one of their mornings when they hand out food to homeless people in a nearby park. What an amazing experience to be part of, especially for our 9 year old daughter. She will never forget this, and nor will we. We highly recommend anyone to stay in one of the Sanctuary apartments when in NYC.
Arriving a little later than expected due to traffic into the city, we were greated by a very patient Mario who helped carry all our bags up 6 flights of stairs to the apartment :-). We were lucky to find parking a few steps away from the building for free!!! Mario remained accessible throughout our stay for any questions we had - A+ for service.
The apartment is very well situated - close to shopping and nice restaurants. Beds were very comfortable and kitchen and bath were well appointed.
We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks on the rooftop terrase overlooking the Empire State Building - it was just perfect.
I would book this apartment again.
The East Village is the most vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhood in Manhattan. Originally populated by European immigrants, the East Village became the center of counterculture and artistic movements in the 1950s and since has become the Mecca for music and art in New York City. In the 70s and 80s the Queen of Pop Madonna, Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) and the Ramones were East Village neighbors. Today celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Mary Kate Olsen and David Schwimmer (Ross from FRIENDS) have residences in our neighborhood. The East Village is also the film set for countless movies and TV shows all year round.
This property is conveniently located minutes from all Lower Manhattan attractions (Soho, Greenwich Village, Lower East Side, Little Italy and Chinatown) and steps from the 2nd Avenue Subway Station and short train ride to Midtown (Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) and Brooklyn.
There's a Whole Foods supermarket 3 blocks away.
