Ray and Kathy met in 1998 and both were building beachfront homes at the time. We married in 1999 and Ray's house was finished first so we decided to do a vacation rental with the Hidden Cove home. It has been a very rewarding experience for us as we have met so many wonderful people. Check out the sunset at Hidden Cove!!
Kathy purchased this house in 1993
This home is simply amazing. Perfect location to watch the wildlife and get the true beauty of Alaska. Kathy and Ray make you feel like you are at home, they keep the cupboards well stocked with a variety of items. The ping pong & foosball table kept our family well entertained when we weren't fishing, whale watching, or sitting around the fire. We had 8 people 7 adults 1 child and this house was very comfortable. We plan to make a return visit.
We just returned from a 9-day stay at the Hidden Cove Beach House in Ketchikan Alaska. It was the vacation of a lifetime. Kathy and Ray supplied more than accommodations; they supplied a home - beautifully appointed, practically equipped and perfectly situated. The house is nestled privately in the woods yet sits facing the Tongass Narrows offering peaceful ocean vistas with fish jumping in the water and eagles nesting in the trees on the property. It was private yet close to conveniences. It's almost unimaginable to have all this in one location.
The location is a few miles away from town shopping and dining yet minutes away from hikes in wooded solitude where rainforest waterfalls are to the right and the peaceful waters lap to shore on the left. And for the sports-minded, the fishing was extraordinary. Plus we rented 2 double kayaks for 6 of the days and between 9 of us, they were used every day. Great fun and great exercise.
The house itself was wonderful. The beds were as comfortable as you would expect to find in a luxury hotel. The kitchen was made for cooking and fully equipped. The great room was, well, great, with large windows for sweeping views over the narrows and unforgettable sunsets.
Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer. But we'll certainly return.
this home is wonderful. The views are amazing. The wildlife you get to see right in the backyard is unbelievable. The house itself self it immaculate. Kathy and Ray are exceptional hosts, making you feel so welcome as soon as you open the door. I have rented homes at the Outer Banks (NC) for years and none of them held a candle to Hidden Cove. I want to thank Ray and Kathy for making our trip to Alaska the most memorable, enjoyable, relaxing time we have ever had on a vacation. We vowed to return to Hidden Cove again soon however with the unexpected passing of my partner I'm not sure I'll be able to return. So I do thank you Kathy and Ray for sharing this home with folks so they can witness such a beautiful area and make memories that in my case mean more now than you will ever know.
My family wanted to get away from the heat of Phoenix and experience some scenery and nature. We made the best decision renting this home in Ketchikan.
Before we arrived Kathy was very easy to communicate with. She had the house ready early since our plane arrived before check in. When we drove in, a family of eagles flew overhead welcoming us. Kathy too drove over to welcome us and explained how a few things worked. The nature trail was out of a fairy tale. The beach was covered with colorful starfish and many other sea creatures. A friendly seal popped his head up to say hello. There was an otter that also shared the beach. Our favorite night was sitting at the fire-pit listening to the whales blowing water. We went salmon fishing with Jim Moody but the fish weren't hungry, but the eagles put on a show. We flew to Misty Fiords with Michelle. The scenery was beautiful and we saw a bear splashing in the water and several mountain goats. The hiking trails near ketchikan are great. The house is the best. There is everything you can think of. If you need to watch a movie, they have tons. The kitchen has all of the basic cooking needs such as: sugar, oil, coffee, butter, and spices. Ray and Kathy also buy breakfast supplies that are waiting for you. The beds were more comfortable than mine at home. You can't go wrong! We have told everyone we know!
Five nights was not enough in this home. It is fantastic!!! For our first time in Alaska this home was perfect. Our family of five so enjoyed the beautiful home and the quiet setting. Waking up each morning to watch cruise ships coming in and the fishing boats headed out, listening to eagles talking and watching whales spout. The location makes it so easy to get to Ketchikan and the marina's. Kathy met us at the house and was so helpful with all our questions. The house is stocked with everything that you need including breakfast items. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed having a fire outside every evening. Thank you Kathy and Ray for sharing your home!!!
It was so unexpected to walk into a place that felt just like home, but in a better condition.
There was everything you need. Everything, down to the smallest detail. The home was right on the beach with incredible views. I wake up often in the middle of the night, and it was wonderful to be able to go out to the living room, with heated floors, and take in the beautiful Alaskan scenery.
The kids had a fun in the boat house, and the adults enjoyed coffee outside on the rocking benches.
I would very highly recommend this place. A real bargain for what you get.
As my husband said, it's better than the Ritz.
The Hidden Cove Beach House is a very short walk(across the street!) from a large convenience store (beer, wine and spirits) fishing license, gas station etc. A brand new restaurant/bar (The Last Frontier) is just a quarter mile down the road. We are located on the city bus route. Bus leaves at 10 minutes past the hour and cost is $1.00. Both marinas(rent boats, kayaks, fishing charters, fishing gear, and tours) are just three miles from Hidden Cove. Fantastic hiking trails are minutes away. Downtown Ketchikan is a fifteen minute drive. The best part of Hidden Cove is it is so close to everything but yet it feels as if you are on your own island! Please read our reviews.
