Overview

About the property

5 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, 5000 Sq Ft Home, Sleeps 18 people

Make memories to last a lifetime in this spectacular log home, nestled in the gently rolling hills of Franklin Tennessee just 30 miles from downtown Nashville and minutes from Historic Leipers Fork. Our home was built on Ed Bruce's old place. Ed wrote the song, "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" and with that success he purchased some of the areas most desirable land. Be sure to check out our video on this site. Lyric Springs is set up for extended conversations around the fireplace, board games and puzzles in the game room, and movie nights in the home theater. Outdoor activities include a swimming pool, spa, fire pit, kids mini-log cabin play fort and groomed hiking trails on the property.

The scale of the home is ideal for extended family gatherings and vacations. The well-stocked kitchen and 10' dining room table (crafted from 160 year old barn wood) is perfect for large family dinners. Special acoustic sound insulation in the home theater allows the movies to rumble without disturbing the rest of the house. Curl up with a good book in the cozy library or spend a quiet morning on your bedroom balcony sipping tea and watching the birds begin their day. The remote setting will also allow you to enjoy the night sky with star gazing or a roaring bonfire.

The winding country roads leading to this secluded estate are picture postcard perfect. No wonder so many celebrities call this unique part of the Nashville area home. The close proximity to Nashville's legendary Music Row also makes it the perfect temporary residence for recording artists and entertainment professionals looking for a little peace and quiet during their Nashville stay. The pastoral setting also makes Lyric Springs Retreat House perfect for retreats or reunions. (Limit 20 people total visiting the property or staying overnight)

Please see the reviews from guests who have stayed at Lyric Springs. It truly is a special place.

WE DO NOT ALLOW WEDDINGS OR BACHELOR PARTIES ON THE PROPERTY.

About David Carlson

We are a creative family of six, working in the entertainment industry, who moved to Nashville for some peace and quiet. We spent 5 years living at Lyric Springs when our children were little. In 2010 we moved back to Chicago for work and started offering the home as a vacation rental. We love to welcome new people and to help them experience the decompression of being in a beautiful natural setting.

David Carlson purchased this house in 2006

Why David Carlson chose Tennessee

We purchased this home because of the beautiful countryside which surrounded it. The house is secluded yet welcoming. We often marvel at how, no matter the season, the countryside around us is stunning.

Hard to find in the dark:) but very worth it!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this location with a corporate group of 9. We loved the seclusion yet it was close enough that we went into Nashville one evening!

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

Lyric Springs was exactly what we were hoping for! We booked the house for a girls’ reunion weekend for six. It ended up just being four of us, but, even though it could have easily handled a large group, the house didn’t feel too big. We used the very-well-stocked kitchen extensively, star-gazed from the Adirondack chairs and the hot tub, floated in the pool, and went for walks along the country roads around the house. We drove into Leiper’s Fork for an afternoon and into Fairview for lunch one day, and we enjoyed the surrounding areas very much! Leiper's Fork is absolutely worth a visit. It’s about an hour to the Nashville airport, and 15 minutes to a grocery store, but the countryside is beautiful. The road to the house is a gravel road up a rather steep hill, but you do get used to it! We felt like we didn’t even scratch the surface of what the house had to offer. Dave was extremely accommodating and responsive to any issues that arose or questions that we had. For anyone planning to use the basement bedroom, I’ll note that there’s no window --- none of us slept there, but it’s something to know. Overall, though, a fantastic experience in a lovingly maintained home. I’d love to come back with kids sometime.

Beautiful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our family schedules a vacation/reunion every summer and typically at a beach. We all live in different states and decided to do something different this year. In addition to the reunion, I was celebrating a BIG birthday during our stay. There were originally going to be 15 of us, but unfortunately, plans changed and we ended up with 9 people this year. We had more than enough room. We have been using VRBO for our lodging for about 6 years and hands down, this was the best kept rental we have encountered. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen completely stocked, the furniture all in good repair, the pool was clean and fun, and all amenities listed were actually there! I had to speak with the owner during our stay regarding one very minor issue and he was overly generous in handling the issue and wanted to insure our vacation was worry free. The house is about 40 minutes outside of Nashville and traffic was terrible around Nashville every time we attempted to drive there. We happily spent most of our time at the house and had a fabulous week! Thank you David for your kindness and for sharing your home!

Beautiful house, well kept and organized. Enjoyed our stay.

  • 3 of 5

This house was beautiful. It was very far from everything so if your looking to have alone time with family this is a great spot. It was in the mountains with beautiful scenery but high up. There were also a lot of bees and wasps. Bring baking soda....for stings and bug spay. The pool was nice but could have been cleaned during our stay. It also was closer to fairview Tenn rather than Franklin. Not sure if we would go back here but we had a good experience.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Jennifer! It is good to remind people that our home is 30 miles from downtown Nashville in Franklin, TN. And it is also important to note that it is surrounded by 100s of acres of rolling Tennessee hills (not exactly mountains!). We are in the heart of horse country and the home is built up on a ridge that was an old pasture that belonged to Ed Bruce, the writer of "Momma Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys". And yes, a log cabin surrounded by hundreds of acres of woods is a likely place for bees and wasps. We have the home treated once a month by Orkin and they made a special trip on the next day to take care of the wasps you found near the pool. Also, as I explained to you on the phone, there is nowhere in our marketing materials that we state that we are 20 minutes from downtown Nashville. You were kind to admit that you probably misread the listing. And yet we are truly sorry that our home did not fully meet your expectations. The Fernvale/Leipers Fork area of Franklin, TN is where many celebrities have their "spreads" and it's this seclusion, combined with easy access to Nashville that we consider to be an ideal location for families and large groups to spend quality time with one another and also enjoy the tourism opportunities in the area. We often tell people that if you plan on hitting the honky tonks in Nashville every night, you probably want to stay somewhere closer to the action.
