Asheville Area Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Call or email for Special Rates! Heartsong cottage is a charming turn of the century built home that has been totally updated and remodeled and is only 15 minutes from downtown Asheville. It has a covered rocking chair front porch with a private deck out back. It sits in a small mountain neighborhood. There are two bedrooms one with the master bedroom having king size bed and other bedroom having a set of oversized bunk beds and a double bed. All of the mattreses Many guests enjoy visiting the spectacular Biltmore Estate along with shopping and browsing the many galleries and stores in the Asheville area. Others like participating in hiking and water activities, attending a festival, concert, or play. Whatever your pleasure, you can always come back to the cottage and relax in front of the quaint gas log fireplace, watch TV or a DVD from the video library on our flat screen TV, play a family game or use your laptop to surf the web with high speed WIFI access. Relaxing in the comfortable Hot Springs spa and/or cooking out with the gas grill on our private deck is also a definite option.

The quaint downtown of Black Mountain is only three minutes away from the cottage, with the beautiful Lake Tomahawk only a short five minute drive (see picture. There is a trail around Lake Tomahawk with beautiful mountain scenery in almost every direction. Also adjacent to the Lake is a huge twenty five yard swimming pool with kiddie area for the whole family to enjoy. The pool can also easily accommodate lap swimmers.

Peaceful and charming, the cottage is 15 minutes from the center of Asheville with its many world class restaurants, year-round live entertainment, museums, art galleries, theaters, concert halls, and large exhibitions at the Civic Center. During the spring, summer and fall seasons there are festivals occurring all over the area with the Biltmore Estates Festival of Flowers occurring every April and the L.E.A.F. Festival taking place twice a year in May and October.

Asheville is also an antique hunter’s paradise, and the River Arts District (has more than 80 artists’ studios) produces some of the best art in America. Shoppers also love the boutiques and many specialty shops the downtown area has to offer. The quaint mountain village of Black Mountain, only 3 minutes away from the cottage also has a charming downtown area with many quality restaurants as well. Access to the Blue Ridge parkway is a quick and easy ten minute drive away. Lake Lure and the beautiful Chimney Rock State Park is a scenic and relaxing 30 minute drive. Mt. Mitchell, highest mountain in the Eastern U.S., is a 45 minute drive from the cottage up the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Please note that winter road conditions in the mountains can often be unpredictable. While the cottage is close to a main road about (500 feet), the road grade leading up the cottage while small, is still steep enough that a 4 wheel drive vehicle might be required if there is more than a few inches of snow on the ground. In more severe weather ( 3+ inches of snow or ice) guests may have to park at the bottom of the road and walk up to the cottage. Guests should keep abreast of weather conditions several days before their arrival and we also encourage them to call us as well for updated information on weather and road conditions. We highly recommend that winter guests consider buying travel insurance.

About Marilyn

Bill and I are seniors who are working. We have been people helpers all our life and made careers out of it. I am a retired social worker. We love the area of Asheville and found it to be very enjoyable and thought that others would want to come and visit but not everyone can afford to pay the high prices of vacation rentals. So we decided to get into the vacation rental business. Bill works full time and I manage the cottage.

Marilyn purchased this cottage in 2009

nice little cottage -- hot tub worked great, even had a crockpot. Pretty close to neighbors on a couple sides-- but nice woods in the back

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the hot tub and crock pot. Even though there are neighbors we have placed fencing or plants to allow for some privacy. I am glad that the shower drain was working great when you came and you didn't detect any smells either. We strive to keep the cottage clean and comfortable. The location and price are always winners for most guests.

Not as expected

  • 3 of 5

Upon our arrival to the cottage, we walked in and there was extreme musty smell. I definitely do not recommend this rental for anyone who has allergies or asthma. We had to run the window air conditioners several hours to resolve the smell. The shower in the bathroom drains very slowly so you end up standing in water. On the night before we left, we emptied the humidifier as directed and to our surprise, there was a black snake behind the humidifier. He had obviously been there a while. Luckily my husband is comfortable with snakes, otherwise I don't know how we would have gotten him out of the cottage. There are several rules which need to be followed while in the cottage and these are displayed on notes around the cottage and this was unexpected and somewhat distracting. The amenities were basic and the location was good. We do not expect to stay at this rental again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are sorry our house was not up to the standards we want. Just a note to customers, we appreciate knowing about concerns while you are at the cottage or just after you leave, so that we can take care of problems right away. Housekeeping forgot to pour our industrial strength dissolver down that drain, hence the standing water. We figured out that a snake got in by the 2nd bedroom door as we had a small opening by the bedroom outside door. That has been fixed. The smell comes from the house sitting closed without ventilation for a week and that is why when you ran the a/c it went away. We have remedied that. We strive to keep the cottage clean and pleasant as so many reviewers have noted. We appreciate you noting that the cottage has everything one needs for a rental and the location was good.

Cozy and convenient cottage near Black Mountain

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week visiting in the Western NC area. Beautiful country and small town mountain beauty & gorgeous nature everywhere. The people are so friendly and there is something for everyone. The cottage was conveniently located and was a cozy, quiet place to come back to. Sure beats staying in Hotels, condos etc. etc. It basically meets the needs of most people and although small---just fine for 2 people or a small family. A little more TLC is needed as the shower doesn't drain very well. And, the sink area of the master bed room could use a bit of TLC. The fixtures are pretty raunchy and spiders are making webs between the crack in the wall with sacks of eggs showing and dust balls/webs on the wall behind the sink. Everywhere else was basically very clean and fresh. The gas fireplace is wonderful when it's a bit cold like it was a couple days we were there. But, on the whole felt the cottage was very adequate and a peaceful jump off for a fun vacation. Thank you for sharing your place.

Owner's Response: thank you for your review. We always appreciate feedback. We checked that faucet and indeed it needed to be replaced. We also fix the shower drain and called our pest control folks to take care of any spiders. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the cottage and the surrounding area. It is a wonderful place to stay and to visit.

We just loved this lil cottage! Perfect for a weekend get away!

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was sweet and cozy. We loved the warmth of the fireplace and the relaxation we got from the hot tub! The location is perfect.... Right off the interstate! We got to enjoy the city life of Asheville (lots of amazing food) and got to come back to cottage and enjoy the fireplace and hot tub. The only down side to the cottage (not complaining at all because we loved the place) is that it is super noisy. There is some kind of construction going on in the neighborhood, the interstate, and the train..... BUT this noise is nothing compared to downtown Asheville noise! we highly recommend this cottage though.... It really is awesome and only 20 mins from downtown Asheville! It is a great place to wind down after all the craziness from the city!

Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review. Yes Ridgecrest Boys Camp is building some more dorm rooms which is 15 to 20 acres behind our property. But the noise carries right now due to the leaves being off the trees. I am sure they will complete the project soon. I am glad you liked the cottage and the location. Lots of folks do. We hope to see you again sometime.

Cozy and clean, everything in good working order, including the hot tub:)

I had a very nice day here. The owners provided helpful information and directions in advance and the property was exactly as advertised. Small but cozy and warm, with a nice hot tub on the back deck in a private yard.
