Why Melanie Patterson chose North Belle Vernon
Better location for a weekend getaway or longer stay than a crowded hotel room with a view of a parking lot. You and your guest can sit on a back patio and enjoy the backyard scenery and watch the many little rabbits scampering around the yard.
What makes this Cottage unique
It used to be my Aunt Janie's beauty shop that she operated since the 1950s until her death in 2007. I converted it into a romantic little hideaway for two on the adjoining property of the home of my grandparents since 1949. Truly a one of a kind venue!!!

Nice, exactly as described
Small, but comfortable. Very clean, and everything (except microwave, but we didn't have them in the fifties/sixties anyway) needed for lite meals. Very quiet and yet well located for services, and to experience most of the town on foot. Very short drives to the rest. No glitches, a great weekend getaway. Enjoyed the tour of the "big house".
What a fun little "Hideaway". It was everything advertised and more. So many memories rekindled and I truly enjoyed my stay here. Melanie was a fantastic host. Would definitely consider staying here again.
There is nothing I appreciate more than knowing my guests truly enjoyed their stay and the trip back in time. Kathy you were a super guest and it was a pleasure to meet and chat with you during your stay. I hope you will return with a stay at The Good Ol' Days House for another blast to the past with friends or family. Thanks again for your great review.
I’m a person of the ‘50’s. Loved all the memorabilia.
Thank you Kathleen! You were the perfect guest during your stay. We loved having you as our guest and are looking forward to your return with a future stay -- and praying for better weather next time. LOL
Thank you for the opportunity to express sincere sentiments after our recent stay at the Hideaway/Love Shack in Belle Vernon, PA, where we celebrated our 55th Wedding Anniversary. Nothing could have been more perfect! When we opened the door, we were gently invited into a warm, intimate, cozy setting taking us backward in time to our childhood! In the words of Bob Hope, “Thanks for the Memories” that came flooding into our hearts in the form of a chenille bedspread, red plastic and chrome kitchen chairs, yellow formica table, red door and drawer pulls, coffee percolator, a Victrola, 33 rpm records, step wastepaper baskets, Barbasol shaving products, the vintage medicine cabinet … and all the other “kitchie”, nostalgic touches too numerous to mention. You even included your personal “Welcome” letter to us! It was apparent much thought went into this successful, pleasant endeavor to bring back the simple but meaningful “Good Ol’ Days” to those of us who lived them. We are saddened that today’s younger generations cannot appreciate or understand times gone by and will never know what they missed.
In closing, we cannot express our heartfelt gratitude enough for this special, unique, and emotional experience. Please know it was a moment in time we will never forget, and you may be sure we’ll be back for more!

charming cottage stay but a bit crowded.
Loved the decor and some nice amenities. However it seemed better for one person.
So many decorations and too much furniture made for no room for any luggage. We used
the dresser and put luggage in the car, so you can work it out.
It would help for owner to purge some of the decor and also to put padding between the fireplace used as a headboard. It sticks out too much and we continually banged our heads on it.
Cheery environment and easy to work with owner.
Amazing, a great small town find
We stayed in the large house on the same property. It is something to see!...worth the price of admission. Reminds us a little of the Christmas Story home. We hope to someday see this home used for a motion picture. It would be a perfect set for a remake of a "Happy Days" program or movie. Make sure you listen to the doorbell from the back door. I'll forever be grateful that we were blessed to stay in the home and to meet the lovely owner, Melanie. She is as warm as the home. We were also welcomed with a box of delicious donuts from the local bakery.
The home is on a busy street, but there is a portable fan in the home that is helpful for light sleepers. There is a small town feel to the entire area. It's about one hour from the airport. Make sure you check highway construction schedules and allow time for your flight. We returned on a holiday weekend, so highways were open.
